SOTOMAYOR, Czarina G., 76, of Nogales, AZ, passed away peacefully on March 11, 1996 at Holy Cross Hospital. She was born in Hermosillo Sonora and brought to Nogales as a small child. She attended local schools in Nogales and graduated from Nogales High School class of 1939. She was the wife of Louis Sotomayor, retired police chief and they had celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on January 31, 1996. She was a secretary to the late Jack Medlen of Medlen Insurance for 35 years from which she retired. She is survived by her husband, Louis of Nogales; sister, Maria Luisa (Edmundo) Puchi of Nogales; and brothers, Louis E. (Maria) Gonzales of Riverside, CA, Joe (Janice) Gonzales of Carlsbad, CA; numerous nieces and nephews; and approximately 39 godchildren. Visitation will be held at ADAIR CARROON MORTUARY, in Nogales on Tuesday Evening at 7:00 p.m. with Rosary at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow immediately at the Nogales Elk’s Cemetery.
WENDLING, James G., age 63, of Tucson, died March 9, 1996. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sarah; his four children, Robert of Oroville, CA, Steven, Kathryn (Morris) and Sandra (Wold), all of Boise, ID; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Jim was born in Dover, OH, studied at Ohio University and has been a Tucson resident for the past 27 years. Jim thoroughly enjoyed flying and college athletics. CHOW, Ven Pin AKA Ven Pin Woo Chow, 97, of Tucson, AZ, passed away on March 11, 1996. Born October 23, 1898 in Shanghai, China, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chung L. Chow. She is survived by her son, Tseng K. Chow of Tucson; daughters, Tseng C. Sih AKA Jenny T. Sih of Maryland and Tseng L. Chow AKA Zheng Lin Zhou of Shanghai, China. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Chow resided at 49/8 Fu Shing Road West, Shanghai, China before coming to the United States in 1957, obtaining her U. DALTON, Henry Francis, Sr., passed away March 10, 1996 in Redlands, CA. He was 84. Born in Caborca, Sonora, Mexico, he spent the majority of his growing up years in Tucson. He then moved to California where he has resided since 1928. A resident of the Riverside and San Bernardino Counties for the past 22 years, he had resided in La Puente for 12 years and was a longtime resident of East Los Angeles. The Dalton family was one of the early California Racheros who settled the Azusa, Glendora, and Arcadia areas. Several sites in the greater Azuza area have been named after his grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Ernestine of Redlands, CA; sons, . Jess of Hesperia, CA, Michael of Highland, CA, Henry of Redlands, CA and daughter, Patricia Espino of Devore, CA; brothers, George and William (Bill); sisters, Lupe Castro, Queta Munoz and Isabel Urias, all of Tucson; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. DAVIS, Geraldine Regina “Gerry’, died at home surrounded by family on March 10, 1996 after a short bout with cancer. Gerry was born in Chicago on December 14, 1929 and moved to Tucson shortly after her marriage to Mike on April 7, 1951. She is survived by Mike, her loving husband and best friend of 44 years; her daughter, Kathy (Mike) Ball; sons, Michael and Jay (Cecilia); grandchildren, Lindsey Kate, Kyle and Ryan and numerous other relatives. She has now joined her parents, Casey and Regina Wiet, in eternal peace. Gerry worked as a secretary for several companies until 1960. She then helped Mike start an accounting practice where she was office manager. Throughout her life, Gerry was a devoted mother and daughter who cared for her children and parents. She was extremely talented and enjoyed music, painting, fishing and traveling. Visitation Services will be held at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, on Friday, March 15 between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday morning, March 16 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Hope Cemetery Mausoleum, 3555 N. GAVITT, Elizabeth, was called to the presence of her Lord Jesus on March 10, 1996. She was born November 16, 1921 in Monclova Coahuila, Mexico. She is survived by her husband, Burton S. Gavitt; sons, Paul H. and Edwin C. Gavitt of Tucson; and daughter, Marian E. Lumpkin of El Paso; also son-in-love, Larry L. Lumpkin; and grandchildren, Taylor, Jennifer, Amy and Philip Lumpkin; also surviving are her brother, Horacio Castro-Ramos of Phoenix; and sisters, Bertha C. Kelley and Ofelia Almanza of Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico. Elizabeth enjoyed a career as a medical doctor. She began in 1946 doing social service medicine in the town of Gitila near Matamoros, Mexico. She later completed internship and residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, achieving board certification in anatomic pathology. She served as Director of Laboratories for Pima County General Hospital from 1961 to 1974. Her last years were invested as a clinic physician with Pima County Health Department. She loved her co-workers dearly and was proud of their professionalism. She was a faithful wife and mother who took her family’s needs as her own desires. Most of all she loved her Lord Jesus and sought to serve Him with all her heart. She invited all who knew her to do the same. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 13 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. HORSKY, Era Nixon, 89, of Albuquerque, NM, died March 9, 1996. Survived by step-daughters, Bonnie Cordt of MN and Carol (Tommy) Harper of Tucson; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; nephews, James (Jean) Nixon of Albuquerque and Larry (Pat) Nixon of Silver City, NM. Preceded in death by husband, Elmer Horsky. Era came to Tucson in 1943 and taught in the Tucson Public Schools until her retirement in 1969. She will be remembered for her dedication and service to the Lord and as a tireless caregiver to family and friends. She is buried at South Lawn Cemetery in Tucson.

PUNCER, Evelyn H. (nee Lietz), 84, of Tucson, formerly of Wauwatosa, WI, was born to eternal life on March 11, 1996. Mrs. Puncer was a graduate of Milwaukee Hospital School of Nursing in 1932 and Menninger Foundation in Topeka, Kansas in 1933. She worked over 10 years as a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Tucson and was a member of Order of Eastern Star. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Puncer and survived by daughter, Vicki L. Kurt and son-in-law, Dr. Kenneth J. Kurt of Franksville, WI; son, Frank W. Puncer of Tucson; grandson, Jason F. SOMERVILLE, Lucinda Alston, 50, of Tucson, found the peace that had eluded her for so long on this material plane on March 7, 1996. Born in Philadelphia, PA of Jon Howard Somerville and Edna Neel Somerville, she had lived in Tucson since 1954. Having traveled and studied extensively in Europe and the Middle East, she held a knowledge and understanding of people and cultures that transcended all political and religious boundaries. Lucinda cherished all living things. She touched the lives of many and had a profound impact on most. Her humor continues to make us laugh her love remains. She is survived by two brothers, J. Howard Somerville of Atlanta and William Douglas Somerville of Tucson; and one sister, Christina (Cricket) S. Metz of Tucson.
