Mrs. Kassler has been a member of Arizona Polish Club for many years. LAINHART-AREND, Elsie, 90, passed away March 17, 1996. Occupation, housewife. Survived by daughter, Corinne Spitzer; and grandchildren, Harold Arend, Rebecca Arend, Daniel Arend-Bruce Lohman, Ronald Lohman and Linda Schowalter; seven great grandchildren; one great grandchild. Resident of Tucson and Nogales since 1915. Also survived by sister, Helen Sheckler. Preceded in death by husbands, Paul M. Arend Jr, 1972 and Jay Lainhart, 1994, son, Norman M. Arend, 1984. ORTEGA, Socorro “Sookie’ Corral, 64, of Tucson, passed away March 16, 1996. Survived by husband, Richard Ortega; daughters, Lupe (Sam) Escarsega, Dolores (Pablo) Hernandez; son, Richard (Rachel) Ortega; sisters, Lupe G. Gallego, Julia (Frank) Soto, Gracie Cancio; brothers, Eleazar (Ramona) Corral; six grandchildren. Also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Foster parents for 17 years. She was also a member of the Guadalupana. QUIROZ, Ernest B. “Chato’ 80, of Tucson, passed away March 16, 1996. Preceded in death by brother, Jose Maria Quiroz, sisters, Erlinda Rincon, Otilia Quiroz and Concepcion Quiroz. Survived by sister, Mary Eva Quiroz; brother, Gilbert B. Quiroz. Also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. WHITMER, Kathryn, 83, of Tucson, died March 15, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd and daughter Margery. She is survived by son, Richard J. Whitmer and daughter-in-law Karen Whitmer; grandchildren, Laura Larison, Jodi Holden, Patty Emery, and Gregory, Jacqueline and Christopher Whitmer; great-grandchildren, Aaron and Eva Emery. ABENDANO, Robert “Bobby’, 37 years young, went to be with our Lord Saturday, March 16, 1996 in a one car accident on an icy road in MN, where he had lived for the past several years. He leaves his wife Sharri and two daughters, Danielle nine years of age, Amber Sue three years of age, of Detroit Lakes, MN; his parents, David and Jenny Abendano; a sister, Margaret; and brothers, Gabriel (Colleen), George; and niece, Tanya of Catalina, AZ; brother, Daniel Abendano of Superior, AZ. Bobby was preceded in death by his brother, David Arthur in January of 1975. Friends may call at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. BAIRD, M. Keith, 68 years old, passed away Monday, March 18, 1996. He was an area resident for 55 years. He was a WWII veteran. Survived by wife, Norma; daughter, Marla (Ralph) Vogler; daughter, Lisa (Neil) McCallion; son, Keith (Ida) Baird; sister, Nadene Clark; sister, Jeanene Graham, all of Tucson; daughter, Myrna (Robert) Kolodge; brother, Kenneth Baird, both of CA; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren. There will be private family services.

BOONE, James Otis Sr., 74, of Tucson, died March 15, 1996. He is survived by his loving wife, Clemmitine; sons, James Otis, Jr. (Cherylene), Mark Anthony (Joy), John Nathan (Jane), and Charles Lester (Cynthia); sister, Betty Jones; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Marie Boone. Mr. Boone was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Lynn. He is also survived by many, close loving friends. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 1996 a 2:00 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, Manzanita, 2121 West Canada. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY.

DAVIS, Margaret L., 80, died March 17, 1996. Mother of Colleen Law and Terry Davis of Tucson and Jeffrey (Barbara) VanDavis of IL, sister of Katherine Rassmussen of Tucson and Edward Davis and Richard Davis both of IL; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive. She is preceded in death by her two half sisters and her one half brother. Mass will be offered 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 22 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 300 S. DOLAN, Katherine, 60, died March 18, 1996. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

DUCHEMIN, Besse Sherrill, died peacefully in Phoenix Sunday, March 10 following a brief illness. She was born in Toledo, OH in 1909 and spent her childhood in Findlay, OH and Chipley, FL. For many years Besse sang professionally in the Chicago area, where she met and married William F. Sherrill. Upon his death she moved to Phoenix and married William Glenn DuChemin, who preceded her in death. Over the past 30 years, Besse also lived in Green Valley and in Tucson. She is survived by her sons, William N. Sherrill (Marjorie) and Donald M. Sherrill (Donna) and her step-son, Robert P. DuChemin (Julia); her grandchildren, Diane C. Ogle (Jack), Karen S. Haas (Allan), William J. Sherrill (Sharon) and Benjamin P. Sherrill. She is also survived by step-grandchildren, Richard DuChemin, Jeffrey DuChemin and Amy DuChemin. Memorial gifts may be made to Orangewood Presbyterian Church, 7321 N. 10th St., Phoenix, AZ 85020.

FOLKERS, Lawrence Jay, age 42, of Tucson, formerly of Sterling, IL, died Saturday, March 16, 1996 after suffering a brain hemorrhage resulting from a previously undiagnosed cerebral aneurysm. He collapsed early Thursday morning while at work as a psychiatric social worker at Kino Hospital and never regained consciousness. During the last hours of his life he was surrounded by his wife’s extended family and friends at Tucson Medical Center before his body was committed to the Donor Network of Arizona. The much loved youngest son of Elmer and Orpha Folkers is survived by his wife, Debbie; his parents; and his brothers, Thomas, Bruce, and Douglas Folkers; three nieces and five nephews. Larry worked for 18 years with a variety of agencies in Tucson’s medical community and was working toward a master’s degree in educational leadership. Beyond family and work, his concerns included supporting the interests of the homeless and supporting environmental conservation. Larry was an avid hiker and gardener. When not otherwise involved, he could usually be found at his computer traveling the internet while listening to his eclectic collection of music. Friends of Larry and Debbie’s may wish to visit an open house at their home Thursday, March 21 between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Friends of the family may also attend a memorial service for Larry at the Catalina Baptist Church, 1900 N. Country Club Road, Friday, March 22 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests any memorials may be sent to the Community Food Bank in Mr. Folker’s memory.

LEWIS, Esther Race, 89 years of age, passed away March 17, 1996. She was born January 28, 1907 in Douglas, Wyoming to a pioneer family; her maternal grandfather being Captain John O’Brien who was Commandant of Fort Fetterman in the Wyoming territory. She graduated from high school in Douglas and worked in the library. In 1927 she married Albert James (Bud) Lewis, who preceded her in death. Her son James also preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Charles and daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Heckart Lewis; five grandchildren, Monica, Suzanne, James, Mitchell, and Randell; and four great grandchildren, Cole, Katerina, Kimberly and Ashley. After their marriage the Lewises moved to Midwest, WY where Esther raised a family, worked in the post office, and was active in Flora Rebekah Lodge #162. After 37 years in the oil field the Lewises retired to Casper, WY in 1964. After the death of her husband in 1967 she moved to Lodi, CA to be near her sister, Vera Seivers. She worked part time in a drapery shop, and was very active in the Presbyterian church. She later joined her son in a move to Vista, CA, and finally settled in Tucson, AZ where she lived until her death on March 17, 1996. There will be a graveside service at Highland Cemetery in Casper, WY on Monday, March 25 at 11:00 a.m. Local arrangements by WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway, 881-0338.

MacPHERSON, Ann, 79, died March 15, 1996. A resident of Tucson for 60 years. She is survived by cousins, Alice and Gilbert Bucknum, of Green Valley. Before retiring in 1981 she was a teacher for the Tucson Unified School District. After graduating from the University of Arizona in 1939 where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, she first taught school in Hayden, AZ. Later in Tucson she taught classes in Carrillo, Sewell, Brown and Blenman schools. She interrupted her career here to teach the children of the Untied States Naval Services in the Panama Canal Zone and in Naples, Italy. Upon returning she obtained a Masters Degree in education at the University of Colorado at Greeley. She also upgraded her teaching skills by studies in England and Hawaii. She was very active in the affairs of the Arizona Historical Society and the Adobe Corral of the Westerners. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6 in the Chapel at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd.

MADRID, Richard Andrew Sr., 58 years old, died Monday, March 18, 1996 in Tucson. Survived by son, Richard A. Madrid Jr. of Tucson; two daughters, Trudy De La Rosa, and Jessica Madrid, both of Tucson; brother, Cruz Madrid of Rosewell, NM; two sisters, Consuelo Aguilar of Roswell, NM, Hope Canatez of Tucson; father, Pedro Madrid of Tucson; seven grandchildren. Mass for Mr. Madrid Sr. will be said at 12:00 Noon Thursday, March 21, 1996 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 8650 N. Shannon, with burial in Holy Hope Cemetery. Friends of Mr. Madrid may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 1996 at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway with Scripture Services at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel.

MARCIONE, Trudi, 50, passed away March 18, 1996. Beloved mother of Ron Beauchat and Reed Marcione; daughter of Helen Hiemstra; sister, Terri (Joe) Chicko; grandchildren, Kezia and Todd Beauchat. McCANN, William, 43, of Tucson passed away March 19, 1996. Survived by wife, Carmen McCann; son, Gilbert Miranda; brother, Chester Seponosky. PORTREY, Merlin G., 58, of Tucson, died March 10, 1996.
