ABENDANO, Robert “Bobby’, 37 years young, went to be with our Lord Saturday, March 16, 1996 in a one car accident on an icy road in MN, where he had lived for the past several years. DUCHEMIN, Besse Sherrill, died peacefully in Phoenix Sunday, March 10 following a brief illness. She was born in Toledo, OH in 1909 and spent her childhood in Findlay, OH and Chipley, FL. For many years Besse sang professionally in the Chicago area, where she met and married William F. Sherrill. Upon his death she moved to Phoenix and married William Glenn DuChemin, who preceded her in death. Over the past 30 years, Besse also lived in Green Valley and in Tucson. She is survived by her sons, William N. Sherrill (Marjorie) and Donald M. Sherrill (Donna) and her step-son, Robert P. DuChemin (Julia); her grandchildren, Diane C. Ogle (Jack), Karen S. Haas (Allan), William J. Sherrill (Sharon) and Benjamin P. Sherrill. She is also survived by step-grandchildren, Richard DuChemin, Jeffrey DuChemin and Amy DuChemin. FOLKERS, Lawrence Jay, age 42, of Tucson, formerly of Sterling, IL, died Saturday, March 16, 1996 after suffering a brain hemorrhage resulting from a previously undiagnosed cerebral aneurysm. He collapsed early Thursday morning while at work as a psychiatric social worker at Kino Hospital and never regained consciousness. During the last hours of his life he was surrounded by his wife’s extended family and friends at Tucson Medical Center before his body was committed to the Donor Network of Arizona. The much loved youngest son of Elmer and Orpha Folkers is survived by his wife, Debbie; his parents; and his brothers, Thomas, Bruce, and Douglas Folkers; three nieces and five nephews. Larry worked for 18 years with a variety of agencies in Tucson’s medical community and was working toward a master’s degree in educational leadership. Beyond family and work, his concerns included supporting the interests of the homeless and supporting environmental conservation. Larry was an avid hiker and gardener. When not otherwise involved, he could usually be found at his computer traveling the internet while listening to his eclectic collection of music. Friends of Larry and Debbie’s may wish to visit an open house at their home Thursday, March 21 between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Friends of the family may also attend a memorial service for Larry at the Catalina Baptist Church, 1900 N. Country Club Road, Friday, March 22 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests any memorials may be sent to the Community Food Bank in Mr. Folker’s memory.
LEWIS, Esther Race, 89 years of age, passed away March 17, 1996. She was born January 28, 1907 in Douglas, Wyoming to a pioneer family; her maternal grandfather being Captain John O’Brien who was Commandant of Fort Fetterman in the Wyoming territory. She graduated from high school in Douglas and worked in the library. In 1927 she married Albert James (Bud) Lewis, who preceded her in death. Her son James also preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Charles and daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Heckart Lewis; five grandchildren, Monica, Suzanne, James, Mitchell, and Randell; and four great grandchildren, Cole, Katerina, Kimberly and Ashley. After their marriage the Lewises moved to Midwest, WY where Esther raised a family, worked in the post office, and was active in Flora Rebekah Lodge #162. After 37 years in the oil field the Lewises retired to Casper, WY in 1964. After the death of her husband in 1967 she moved to Lodi, CA to be near her sister, Vera Seivers. She worked part time in a drapery shop, and was very active in the Presbyterian church. She later joined her son in a move to Vista, CA, and finally settled in Tucson, AZ where she lived until her death on March 17, 1996. MacPHERSON, Ann, 79, died March 15, 1996. A resident of Tucson for 60 years. She is survived by cousins, Alice and Gilbert Bucknum, of Green Valley. Before retiring in 1981 she was a teacher for the Tucson Unified School District. After graduating from the University of Arizona in 1939 where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, she first taught school in Hayden, AZ. Later in Tucson she taught classes in Carrillo, Sewell, Brown and Blenman schools. She interrupted her career here to teach the children of the Untied States Naval Services in the Panama Canal Zone and in Naples, Italy. Upon returning she obtained a Masters Degree in education at the University of Colorado at Greeley. She also upgraded her teaching skills by studies in England and Hawaii. She was very active in the affairs of the Arizona Historical Society and the Adobe Corral of the Westerners. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6 in the Chapel at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd.
