Funeral Services for Mr. Luster, age 60, who passed away as the result of an accident Tuesday, March 19, 1996, in Tucson, will be conducted Saturday, March 23 at 10:00 a.m. at the Palo Verde L.D.S. Chapel, 6901 E. Kenyon St., Tucson, AZ. Graveside Services will be conducted Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at the Central Cemetery, Central, AZ. Pat, born August 20, 1935 in Pima, grew up and received his education there, graduating from Pima High in 1953. He attended EAC and ASU. He later joined the Navy serving from 1955 to 1959. Pat married Marlene Combs, July 28, 1956, they made their home in Tucson in 1960, where they have resided since. Pat and his family owned and operated “Luster Construction Company.’ He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in many positions in the Church. He was currently serving as Branch President of the Wilmot Branch. Pat is survived by his wife, Marlene Luster; one son, Greg; two daughters, Mindy Cluff and Kaylene Leenknecht, all of Tucson; one sister, Beth Kelly of Pima; two brothers, Charles Kay Luster of Mesa and Ray C. MacPHERSON, Ann, 79, died March 15, 1996. A resident of Tucson for 60 years. She is survived by cousins, Alice and Gilbert Bucknum, of Green Valley. Before retiring in 1981 she was a teacher for the Tucson Unified School District. After graduating from the University of Arizona in 1939 where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, she first taught school in Hayden, AZ. Later in Tucson she taught classes in Carrillo, Sewell, Brown and Blenman schools. She interrupted her career here to teach the children of the Untied States Naval Services in the Panama Canal Zone and in Naples, Italy. Upon returning she obtained a Masters Degree in education at the University of Colorado at Greeley. She also upgraded her teaching skills by studies in England and Hawaii. She was very active in the affairs of the Arizona Historical Society and the Adobe Corral of the Westerners. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6 in the Chapel at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd.
NIEBEL, Martha M., 83, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 1996. She was a past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star Chapter #67 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is survived by two sons, Ralph J. Niebel, Jr. and and Wallace P. Niebel, Sr.; grandchildren, Ralph J. Niebel III, Lisa L. Langlais, Wallace P. Niebel, Jr. and Stephanie Whetstone; and two great-grandchildren, Kimberly Langlais and Daniel Langlais. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, March 23 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church at the corner of Jefferson and Copper in Albuquerque.
PETERSON, Ronald E., 70, a 56 year Tucson resident, passed away March 21, 1996. Survived by wife, Imogene; sons, Timothy (Tammy) and Dan (Jacquie); daughter, Lynnette; foster daughter, Helen Gilbert; several grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; brother, Maynard (Patricia) Peterson. Mr. Peterson served in the US Navy during WWII, was a member of the Elks, Eagles and Atomic Veterans Assoc. Memorial Service to be announced.
PROSSER, Sandra Iris, age 55, went to be with the Lord on March 21, 1996. She died after a sudden appearance of cancer. She was born May 22, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. She died at home, surrounded by her family; her mother, Myrtle G. Giachetti; her five loving children, Daniel (Cheryl) Prosser, Jean (Manuel) Gadea, Thomas (Maria), Robert and Kathryn Prosser, all of Tucson; her brothers, Roger (Jennifer) and Richard (Elizabeth) Giachetti; seven treasured and beautiful grandchildren and five nieces and nephews. Through her years of childcare she was a Mother to many others, who also loved her very much. Sandy will always be remembered for her faith, her generosity and her kindness. She has left us with an abundance of love and memories. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Grace Chapel, 6180 E. Pima, Tucson, Arizona 85712, in Sandy’s memory. SHIPLEY, Edgar R., 90, of Ft. Collins, CO since 1993 and a former 23 year resident of Tucson, died March 18, 1996. Survived by son, James A. Shipley of Lawrence, KS; daughters, Sherry I. Graham of Wichita, KS and Kay Whittaker of Ft. Collins, CO; brother, Charles B. Shipley of Sierra Vista, AZ; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Born April 13, 1905 in Garden Plain, KS to Cad W. Shipley and Alice Yarberry. He graduated from Goddard High School in Goddard, KS and married Blanche Burke on August 14, 1934 in Newton, KS. Mr. Shipley farmed in Sedgwick, CO and in Kansas from 1926 until 1950. During WWII he worked at the Boeing Plant in Wichita, KS where he built B-29's. After he quit farming in 1950 he went to work for Harper and Sons Masonary in Wichita, KS. He was a member of the Masonic Consistory in Wichita, KS, member of the Clearwater Methodist Church in Clearwater, KS and an avid golfer. COLLINS, Rupert Patrick, Col. USAF Ret. 80, died March 19, 1996. HAWKINS, C.S. “Chick’ 85, of Tucson, died March 22, 1996. Survivors include his wife, LaVerne; children, Bruce (Trucynda) Hawkins, Jerry (Paula) Hawkins, Julie (Mike) Feerick, and Brian (Grace) Hawkins; nine grandchildren, Tiffanie, Bryent, Eric, Amy, Ryan, Sarah, Christopher, Michael, and Nicholas; sister, Linetta Parry of Philo, IL; sister-in-law, Ruth Hawkins of Glendora, CA; brother-in-law, Lester Oberfeld of Tucson; and niece, Ann Butler of Livermore, CA. Chick was born in Terre Haute, IN, to his parents, Clarence W. and Mable Hawkins. After working in Berkley, CA for Kaiser Shipyard from 1942-1945, he came to Tucson where he married LaVerne Oberfeld on August 26, 1948. Mr. Hawkins started working as program Director for the YMCA in 1947. Among the various branches which he served at were the South Branch, Lighthouse, Jacobs Park and Tucson Metro. Chick directed the Triangle Y Ranch Camp from its early beginnings to its present development and was also supervisor for the Knot-Hole Club at the U of A football games.
