SERANO, Aurora Aranda, 75, of Tucson, passed away March 26, 1996. Survived by husband, Adolfo R. Serano; daughters, Dolores Ortiz, Toni Serano, Dorothy (Chalito) Franco, Luci Ramirez; son, Salvador (Nancy) Varela; sister, Adela Zaccagini; brother, Luis Aranda; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. STEVENSON, James Earl (Tech/Sgt. Retired U.S.A.F.), of Tucson, passed March 24th, 1996. Survived by wife, Lillie Stevenson, Tucson; sons, Richard Stevenson and Wayne Stevenson, Tucson, Gregory (Karin) Stevenson, CA; daughters, Wanda (Ted) Goldammer, VA and Debra Stevenson; brothers, Jesse Stevenson and Floyd (Elizabeth) Stevenson, Tucson, and Stanley (Karen) Stevenson, LA; sisters, Mazie Collins, LA and Brenda Peters, Tucson; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Tec/Sgt Stevenson retired from the USAF, with over 20 years of service. Funeral Service Friday, March 29th, 1996 at 11:00 a.m. at Victory Assembly of God, 2501 W. Ruthraff Dr, with Rev. Zane Anderson officiating. Visitation Thursday, 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Interment at South Lawn Cemetery, with Davis Monthan Air Force providing military honors.

GONZALEZ, Jose C., 79, died March 27, 1996. Father of Armida Gonzalez Pratt of L.A., Josephina Angela Meadows of Tucson, Guadalupe Manuel Gonzalez of Tucson, Alma Christina Clapper of OH, Joseph Francis Gonzalez of MD, Maria Antonietta Montano of Tucson, Margarita Hortencia Abbott of Tucson and Marta Guillermina Hughes of Phoenix; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive. He was a Army Veteran of WWII, recipient of Bronze Star for Heroism and the Purple Heart in the Italian Campaign. Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 1996 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1800 S. Kolb Rd., with Father Francisco Maldonado officiating. Burial to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. GREENSIDE, Allen B., 84, of Tucson, died March 27, 1996. Survived by beloved son, Dwayne (Rosita) Greenside; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 31 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Tucson. Burial will be in Green Acres Cemetery, Scottsdale, AZ.

MACKIN, Dorothy, died on March 27, 1996 at her home in Tucson where she spent the last 35 winters. She was born July 16, 1917, in Hayden, Colorado and grew up in upstate New York. She was the daughter of Earl and Ruth Stacy Mabee.
Dorothy was a secretary at the London Gold Mine in Alma, CO in 1936-37 and then the owner of the Intermountain Food Brokerage Company in Denver during the early 1940's. She will be remembered as the co-founder and producer for 45 years of the renown Imperial Hotel Melodrama in Cripple Creek, CO. She and her husband, Wayne S. Mackin, purchased the Imperial Hotel in Cripple Creek in May of 1946 where they owned and operated the theatre until 1992 when they sold the hotel. The Imperial Players are still today the nation’s oldest continually operating professional melodrama company.
Dorothy was also an author having written several books including Melodrama Classics – Six Plays and How to Stage Them, published by Sterling Publishing Company of New York, The Imperial or Hospitality in the Gold Camp Since 1896, and Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church – Memories and Memorials. She also wrote introductions and endorsements for numerous books by other authors.
Dorothy and her husband were the recipients in 1967 of the Denver Post’s Larry Tajiri Memorial Award for Achievement in Theatre arts. This award was presented to them by then Governor John Love at a ceremony in Denver. They also received the Governor’s Hospitality Award in 1981. Dorothy guest directed the Star Bar Players of Colorado Springs in their 1982 performance of Misalliance. Dorothy’s revised play scripts are presently located in the Pikes Peak Library Western History Collection in Colorado Springs.
Dorothy was a founding member and past-president of the Cripple Creek District Museum Board of Directors. She was a member of the Rocky Mountain Writers’ Guild, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Cripple Creek and listed in Who’s Who In The West.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Wayne; children, Stephen of Cripple Creek, Susan Anderson of Decatur, GA, Jeffrey of Colorado Springs; a sister, Alice Bickel of Tucson; and three grandchildren, Kirk and Stacy of Fort Collins, CO and Rebecca of Colorado Springs. The Mackins celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 5th of this year.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Tucson on Saturday, March 30 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception following at the Mackin home. Following cremation, interment will be in Cripple Creek, CO on Monday, April 8.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Primavera Foundation, 735 Stone Ave., Tucson, AZ 85701, St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 500 N. Wilmot Road, Tucson, AZ 85712, the Cripple Creek Museum or St. Andrews Episcopal Church of Cripple Creek, CO 80813.

O’GUIN, Adam Benjamin, Jr., Lt. Col. USAF Ret. residing in Tucson, AZ and Palmer Lake, CO died March 27, 1996. He was born in Rosebud, AR August 23, 1924. He retired from the USAF after 30 years of service. During his career as a pilot he received six Air Medals, the Bronze Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross among other medals. He is survived by his wife, Louise of Tucson and Palmer Lake; and by his daughters, Cheryl D. Lopez of Denver, CO and Debra K. La Vigne of Lansing, NY; and by four sisters; and four grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30 at Davis- Monthan Air Force Base Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society, 1636 N. VALENZUELA, Agustin A., 78, of Tucson, passed away peacefully March 27, 1996. Survived by wife, Gracie Valenzuela; daughters, Monique Valenzuela (Jesus) Dean, Esther (Albert) Valenzuela, Frances (Russell) Schuster, all of Tucson; stepdaughter, Kathy (Edmund) Cota of Tucson; stepson, Terry (Tammy) Anderson of Morongo Valley, CA; grandchildren, Veronica Cota, Marguerite Gracia, Elizabeth Torrez, Edmund Cota, Travis Speidel; great-grandchildren, Jason Cota, Amanda Gracia, R. J. Gracia, Jessica Gracia, Robert Torrez III, Pablo Torrez, Anthony Torrez, Alyssa Valenzuela, Albert Valenzuela, Jr., Nicholas Valenzuela, Maria Dean, Jesus Dean, Jr., Tiffany Schuster and Adam Schuster. Mr. Valenzuela was a U.S. Army, WWII Veteran. He retired from Magma Copper Mines after 32 years of employment. He also worked for Sunnyside School District for eight years. He was a very loving husband, wonderful father and the world’s greatest grandpa. We love you Grandpa. Services Saturday 9:00 a.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY. Interment to follow Holy Hope Cemetery. CLARK, Leona E., age 88, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 1996 at her daughter, Josephine Wilson’s home in Temple City, CA. Mrs. Clark was a long time resident of Tucson since 1948 and currently resided in Phoenix. Mrs. Clark worked at the Grand and Villa Restaurants and owned and operated her own restaurant on S. Plumer. Mrs. Clark was a Montgomery County Dayton, Ohio native and the daughter of the late Ammon and Martha E. (Mahugh) Noffsinger. Her husband, Edmund F. Clark preceded her in death on November 11, 1970. Survivors include three daughters, Wanda (Forte) Ronan of Yuma, AZ, Josephine (Jo) Wilson, Temple City, CA, Wilma (Billy) Sherman of Skowhegan, ME (formerly of Yuma, AZ); son, John E. Clark of Tucson; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; sister, Ruby Dierken of Spring Valley, OH; and brother, Orville Noffsinger of Tipp City, OH. Preceded in death by a sister, Altha Noffsinger and two half-sister, Jennie Fulton and Vinnie Snell. Funeral Services are at the Kretzer Funeral Home, in Arcanum, OH on Saturday, March 30, 1996. Memorial Service 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 1996 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, with Elizabeth Delwos Meijer officiating, a Christian Science practitioner. Family will receive relatives and friends one hour before service time on Saturday at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL. Relatives and friends are invited to stop by John Clark’s home after service. COOPER, Marjorie R., 77, of Tucson, died March 26, 1996. Preceded in death by husband, Reginald Cooper and granddaughter, Angela Cooper. Survived by daughter, Judith (Al) Miller of Tucson; son, Larry R. Cooper of Las Vegas, NV; granddaughters, Mary Clark and Melissa Cooper; sister, Lucile Feddersen of IA; brother, Ronald (Dessel) Rittmer of IA. Funeral Service and burial will be in Andover, IA. CORNWELL, Capt. Leroy Jason, III. Born August 5, 1944 in Richmond, VA, killed in the line of duty on September 10, 1971 in Laos. Survived by his parents, Leroy and Olivia Cornwell of Tucson. DAVIS, Helen A., 65, of Tucson, died March 27, 1996. Survived by cousins, Terrence E. Dwyre, James Dwyre, William Rosson, Janet Burt. Also survived by friend, Maureen Dolphin. GOODWIN, Walter L. “Wally’, III, 68, died March 20, 1996 at St. John’s Hospital, Santa Monica, CA after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Formerly of Scottsdale, he and his loving devoted wife Janis for the last 10 years lived at 1123 First St., Hermosa Beach, CA 90254. Preceded in death by his father Walter L. Goodwin II, mother Beatrice Brown and son Walter “Corky’ Goodwin IV. Survived, in addition to wife Janis, by: daughters, Ahna Small of San Pedro, CA and Sage Perkins of Bellingham, WA; brothers, Sewell Goodwin of Glenwood, NM and Peter Goodwin of Santa Fe, NM; sisters, Lisa Campiglio of Spain and Katie Lopez of Santa Fe, NM; grandsons, John Paul Perkins and Eric Small; and stepfather, former State Senator, Neilson Brown of Phoenix. Wally was born in Philadelphia, PA, but spent his youth on a ranch near Nogales with his mother and stepfather. Graduated from Tucson High 1946, attended Yale and the U of A where he was affiliated with Kappa Sigma and received a degree in engineering. Wally loved golfing, traveling, hunting and especially fishing where he spent the last few years of his life in Mulege, Baja where he was affectionately known as the “Mayor’. Over the years he lovingly acquired numerous friends wherever he lived or visited and he will be deeply missed by all of them, although his many fond memories shall live on. Among his closest friends were Dr. Jim Pickrell of Sonoita and his “adopted brother’ Bernie Weinstein of Tucson. Memorial Services were held March 22, 1996 at St. Cross Episcopal Church, Hermosa Beach. Remembrances may be made to American Cancer Society.

KAHN, Marguerite, 84, died March 28, 1996. Mother of Dolores Parker of FL, Robert Kahn of OR and Leonard Kahn of Tucson; sister of Anthony DeMadona of Tucson; cousin of Clara Zocki of NY; 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive. Scripture Service 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 1996 at Holy Hope Mausoleum with Fr. Mike Martinez officiating. PLUMMER, Susan Lee, 42, died March 27, 1996. Survived by daughter, Pamela Plummer; mother, Billie Lloyd. Susan had been employed as a Medical Technologist at UMC until her health forced her to retire. Funeral Services and burial will be in Perry, FL. POWERS, James Grant, August 27, 1899 – March 27, 1996. Served in WWI in the Marines. He was among the forces that opposed the enemy at the Meuse, Argonne offensive in France in 1918. He served in the Army during the Second World War and retired as Lt. Colonel. Jim served in the Foreign Service after having graduated from Georgetown University in 1930. He was a world traveler and continued to travel into his 90's. He was briefly in the seminary at Notre Dame and claimed ND as his own. He traveled to all the football games both home and away until 1994. He was a devout Irish Catholic and member of the Third Order of St. Frances. He leaves his wife, Phyllis Price Powers; children, Phyllis, Winnie and Jim; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

SCHACH, Chester A. Jr., 83, a resident of Tucson for 69 years, died March 27, 1996. Survived by two brothers, two sisters and many nieces and nephews. Visitation one hour prior to the funeral service 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 1 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S. Park Ave., with Pastor D.I. Buttram of Ajo Way Church of God, officiating. Burial South Lawn Cemetery.

SCHROCK, Glenn Walter, died March 28, 1996 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tucson, AZ. Glenn was born in Beaverton, MI, January 19, 1919. He was the son of Herman Benjamin Schrock and Hanna Lovina Mourer. He spent his early days in Beaverton and graduated from high school in Everet, MI. He enlisted in the United States Army, November 9, 1939 in Bay City, MI. He was sent with the 6th Engineer’s, 6th Division, to the hills of Missouri to build the now famous Fort Leonard Wood. Glenn drove the first truck on site. They worked twenty four hours a day until the fort was complete. On May 3, 1941, Glenn married Monzella Mae Chastain of Lebanon, MO. His only son, Elwin Dennis Schrock, was born January 11, 1943 in Spring Hollow Township, Laclede County, MO. Upon Glenn’s release from the U.S. Army, he moved his family to Tucson, AZ. They purchased a lot, with a small house, at 2759 North Edith where they lived for the next fifty years. Glenn drove a bus for Tucson Rapid Transit for fifteen years then a “Yellow Cab’ until his retirement in 1981. Glenn and Monzella were blessed with their only grandchild on July 17. 1983, Jason Elwin Schrock. Glenn was preceded in death by his son Elwin Dennis, mother, Hanna, father, Herman, brother, Royal and sister, Alma. Glenn is survived by his wife, Monzella of Tucson, AZ; his grandson, Jason of Conyers, GA; his sisters, Wilma Paxton of Coleman, MI and Carrie Schroeder of Everet, MI; and his brother, Clyde Schrock of Reed City, MI. Friends, may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., April 3, 1996. Funeral Services will be at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 1996 with Pastor Mark Harmon officiating. Interment will follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.
