Carl Freeman

Carl Freeman, 31, a lifetime Yuma resident, passed away October 14, 2001. He was born November 22, 1969 in Tucson, AZ. He is a member of the Harley Davidson Club and Manager of Magic Mist Car Wash & Coach Sounds.

Mr. Freeman is survived by his parents Martin and Mary Jo Freeman and brother Robert Freeman, grandmother Beverly Freeman and numerous aunts, uncles and family members. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to noon Thursday at Johnson Mortuary Chapel with graveside services following in Desert Lawn Memorial Park.

James E. Breck

James E. Breck, 59, entered eternal life at home with his family on October 16, 2001, in Yuma, AZ. He was born on March 30, 1942 in Mitchell, S.D. He graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Mitchell, S.D. in 1960. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S.D, and earned his Master’s Degree from Webster University. He served his country in the Vietnam war as an Army officer in the Medical Service Corps. Following his service in the Army he was department head of Yuma Regional Medical Center’s Laboratory Services for 25 years.

As Community Spokesperson for United Blood Services he coordinated blood drives throughout Yuma County. He became an tireless advocate of the “gift of life”, ensuring adequate blood supplies for the local community.

Jim was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Community and answered his calling to parish ministry as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, and member of the Parish Council. His service on the parish building committee over several years culminated in the dedication of the new church in 1984. He extended his service to the local community as a member of the Knights of Columbus.

An avid outdoorsman, he was actively involved in conservation, serving as President and Board Member of the Arizona Wildlife Federation. In 2000, he earned the federation’s Lifetime Achievement Award for preserving and enriching Arizona’s natural resource heritage. He was a member and past-president of the Yuma Valley Rod and Gun Club and a life-member of the National Rifle Association. As a hunter-safety instructor he instilled the practices of wildlife conservation and firearms safety into young sportsmen.

Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Barbara; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Mieke Breck of Jacksonville, N.C; son and daughter-in-law Mark and Neiliane Breck of Chandler, A.Z; granddaughters Hannah, Isabella, and Emma; his brothers Ed Breck and Al Breck of Sioux Falls, S.D; sister Regina Dunn of Chamberlain, S.D.; and sister Elnora Patzloff of Mitchell, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father Lucille and Ed Breck, his brother Michael Breck, and his sister Patricia Ricca.

Wake will be Friday, October 19, 2001, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Kamman Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, October 20, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Pallbearers will be Victor Alvarez, Tony Felix, Jim Hesprich, Joe LaFata, Gene McKinney, Thomas Merket, Dave Sussman, and Werner Wester. Internment will be at Calvary Cemetery, in Mitchell, S.D.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation of Yuma Regional Medical Center, 2400 Avenue A, Yuma, AZ 85364.

Almeda “JOAN” Brogan

Almeda “Joan” Brogan, 74 a resident of Yuma for 14 years passed away on October 16, 2001.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Richard in 1999.

She is survived by sons: William and Tom Wohlgemuth, Daughters: Karen White and Stacy Oyarzo. Grandchildren: Misty White, Sabrina and Samantha White, Rory Wohlgemuth, Kyle and Thomas H. Wohlgemuth and Jeffrey and Jarrod Oyarzo.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2001 at 12:00 noon at Sunset Vista Funeral Home, 11357 E. 40th St.

Friends may call one hour prior to service time.

Interment will be private at Sunset Vista Cemetery.

Arrangements by Sunset Vista Funeral Home, Cemetery and Crematory.

Clarence Ward, Jr.

Clarence Ward, Jr., 68 passed away at his residence October 16, 2001.

He is survived by his wife Billie Faye of Wellton. Daughters: Debbie Solorio, Yuma and Vickie West, Tehachapi, CA. Mother: Vera Ward, Three brothers and one sister all of Bakersfield, CA.

Memorial services will held on Saturday, October 20, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Vista Funeral Home Chapel, 11357 E. 40th St., with Brother Clifford Brown officiating.

Inurnment will be in Sunset Vista Cemetery.

Charles George McGhee

Charles G. McGhee, 53, passed away at home on October 17, 2001 in Yuma, AZ. He was born on July 18, 1948 in Bethesda, MD. He attended Yuma High and AWC. Charles was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a customer service tech for APS and Southwest gas for 17 years. He attended Calvary Temple of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Filomena McGhee, of Yuma; daughter, Valerie Michelle McGhee, of Yuma; son, Richard Elliot McGhee, of Yuma; grandsons, Jordon Marquise McGhee and Manuel Guererro McGhee, both of Glendale and Jacob Issac McGhee of Yuma and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 22, 2001 at Johnson Mortuary from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Johnsons Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at 10:00 AM. Pastor Willie Johnson will officiate. Desert Lawn Memorial Park will be his final resting place.

Pallbearers will be Freddie Allen, Herb Allen, Richard McGhee, Larry Zigler, Howard Maiden and Larry McGhee.

Budd Magee

C. E. Magee passed away October 20, 2001 at the age of 93 years old. He was retired from Brown Williamson Tobacco Co. after 33 years. He was retired from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and a decorated veteran of WWII. He was a loving, generous husband, uncle and friend.

There was a private cremation and the family requested in lieu of flowers, gifts be sent to the Disabled Veterans in his memory.

Elwin J. Marsh

Elwin J. Marsh, a 38-year resident of Yuma, passed away Tuesday, October 23rd, at YRMC. Born April 22, 1922, in Youngsville, PA, he was the only son of Mabel and George CaryMarsh. A 1939 graduate of Westfield High School and the Dunkirk Business Institute, Elwin began his service to his country in September 1942 in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with tours of duty in Africa, Italy, France and Germany. On June 27, 1948, he married Esther Wilson, daughter of John and Doris Wilson of Brocton, NY. In 1963 Elwin moved from Brocton to Yuma retiring from the AZ Dept. of Economic Security in 1988. A Master Mason for more than 55 years, he was Past Master of Lake Shore Lodge #851, a member of the Jamestown Consistory, past president of the Yuma Shrine Club, past president of the Yuma Mustangs, a member of Yuma Elks Lodge #476, an elder in the Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church and a member of Yuma’s Theater Organ Society.

He is survived by Esther, his loving wife of 53 years, and his son Tom, of Fairfax, VA.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 28th, at 4:00 p.m., at Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made in Elwin’s name to Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church, 150 W. 28th St., Yuma, AZ 85364, or the AZ Kidney Foundation, 4203 E. Indian School Rd. #140, Phoenix, AZ. 85018, or the Shriners Childrens Hospitals Transportation Fund c/o EL Zaribah Center, 552 N. 40th St., Phoenix, AZ. 85008.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff of YRMC and Yuma Dialysis Center-South for their extraordinary care and compassion.

David Lee Gomez II

David Lee Gomez II, 39 passed away on October 21, 2001 in Yuma, AZ. He was born on April 15, 1962 in Yuma, AZ.

He graduated Kofa High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1980 to 1982. He worked in construction and plastering.

David is survived by his mother and father Lydia Galindo and David Gomez Sr., Brothers Cornelio Rios (Ana), Stevie Gomez (Leticia), David Gomez III, Alfred Gomez, Gerry Gomez, Leon Gomez and Benjamin Rios.;Sisters Leticia Galindo, Irma Franck (Chuck), Camilla Miranda (Pepe) Brecena Gomez, Rose Marie Carpentar, Frances Rios and Grandmother Lujarda Tone (Arie).
He is preceded in death by Ramon Galindo and Uncle Ruben Lopez.

Visitation will be at Johnson Mortuary on Thursday, October 25, 2011 from 4:00pm-9:00pm with
Rosary at 7:00 pm.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 26, 2001 at 10:30 am.

Final resting place will be at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearer will be Lonnie Lopez, Isaac Lopez, David Rodriguez, Joe Gomez, Micheal Chavez II and Andrew Garcia.

Honorary bearers are Cornelio Rios, Stevie Gomez, Chuck Franck, Pepe Miranda, James Lopez and Joey Martinez.

Eleanor Johnson

Eleanor Johnson, 86, went to be with the lord on October 8, 2001 in Alameda, CA. while visiting her sister. She was born in Beaumont, CA. The family moved to the Yuma valley in 1913. She graduated from Crane School in 1929 and Yuma High School in 1934. After graduating from Pasadena Junior College she returned to Yuma and was employed at Imperial Valley Hardware Store. She retired from the J. C. Penney Co. in 1980 after more than 20 years. She was an active member of the Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church and was a volunteer with the Arizona Historical Society – Century House and Garden and the Crosswords
Mission.

Survivors include her twin sister, Florence Bowen, Alameda, CA.; sons, Bill, Phoenix, AZ., David, Spokane, WA., Mickey, Phoenix,

AZ.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at the Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church in Yuma.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church, 150 W. 28th St., Yuma, AZ. 85365 or the Arizona Historical Society, 240 S. Madison Ave., Yuma, AZ. 85364.

Marie Kulpa

Marie Kulpa, 96, passed away October 23, 2001 in Yuma, Arizona. She was born March 5, 1906 in Wheeling, West Virginia. Mrs. Kulpa was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.

Survivors include; her daughter Dorothy Huff, son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Sue Kulpa all of Yuma, brother, Fr. Damian Kobus O.S.M of Portland, Oregon. sister, Irene Tylus of Port Charlotte, Florida., 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kulpa was preceded in death by her husband Felix Kulpa.

Mass will be held10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2001 at St. Francis Church. Final resting place will be Desert Lawn Memorial Park.

Manuel G. Acosta

Manuel G. Acosta , 57, passed away October 29, 2001 at Yuma Regional Medical Center. HE was born September 27, 1944 in Yuma, Az. He graduated from Yuma Union High School. He worked at Fisher Chrysler Dodge as a part salesman. Rev. Manuel Acosta officiated at the Iglesia Bautista Conservadora. He also helped churches in Mexico and in the Yuma community.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia, of Yuma; brothers John, of Yuma and David, of Del Valle, TX and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Fernando and Concepcion.

Visitation will be today at Johnson Mortuary, Thursday November 1, 2001 from 6 - 9PM. Services will be Friday November 2, 2001at Johnson Mortuary at 10AM. Rev. Daniel Cortez will officiate. Desert Lawn Memorial Park will be his final resting place.

Pallbearers will be Pedro Palacios, Bernardo Palacios, Jose Esparza, Apolinar Leon, Daniel Acosta and John Acosta Jr. Honorary Bearers Francisco Cordova, Gustavo Esparza and John Acosta Sr. Organist will be Ernie Munoz Sr.
