OFFICER, Dr. James Eoff, 71, of Tucson, died May 27, 1996 after a short illness. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Roberta Mitzel Officer; his daughter, Sarah Jean Officer; his sister, Marjorie Thomas of Garnett, KS; and his brother, Forrest Officer, Jr. of Cottage Grove, MN. Preceded in death by his son, James Robert Officer. He was a Professor Emeritus of the University of Arizona, where he served for nearly 25 years as a member of the Department of Anthropology. He enjoyed a varied career. He served briefly in the United States Army. He served in the United States diplomatic service in Washington, D.C. and Chile; spent six years as the Associate U.S. Commissioner of Indian Affairs; directed a summer school for the University of Arizona in Guadalajara, Mexico; and was the personal assistant to the Secretary of Interior during the final days of the Johnson Administration. He also had been a radio and sports broadcaster. He was the author of the book, “Hispanic Arizona’ as well as many other publications. He was a member of the Arizona Historical Society, Tucson Presidio Trust of Historic Preservation, S.W. Parks and Monuments Association, Southwest Mission Research Center, Tucson Corral of Westerners, Latin American Social Club, Rotary Club of Tucson, Pathfinders and Tucson Press Club. SIMPSON, David L., died 26 May, 1996 at his brother’s home in Sun City, AZ. He was born June 6, 1910 in Tuscaloosa, AL of Charles C. and Esther Smith Simpson. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama earning a BS degree in Chemical Engineering and an MS degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1933. Throughout his life he worked in the Steel industry rising to Superintendent in various steel mills, from the Fairless Works in Pennsylvania to Arizona. He spent two and a half years on assignment to steel mills in Mexico and Brazil. Upon retirement, he moved to Arizona in 1976, settling in Green Valley, AZ in 1990 where he lived until January, 1996 when he moved in with his brother in Sun City, AZ. He was married to Pauline Cokonis who passed away in 1985. From this marriage he leaves a daughter, Carolyn Jost; a granddaughter, Victoria Cokonis; and a great grandson, Anthony Cokonis, all of Tucson; and a brother, Thomas B. Simpson of Sun City, AZ. A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Valley Community Episcopal Church in Green Valley, AZ on 30 May, 1996. WELSH, Lillian D., was born Lillian Dice Yoder on September 5, 1905, in Bucks County, PA to John O’Harrow Yoder (1876-1946) and Sussanna Cressman Dice (1886-1964). Her sister Bessie D. Yoder died in 1941. Her brother Paul Dice Yoder the father of her niece Ann Yoder Breckinridge, died in 1967. She divorced from Everett Alen Welsh in 1970 and he passed away in 1975. Mrs. Welsh is survived by her niece, Ann Breckinridge and her nephew, John Yoder. Mrs. Welsh earned the MA degree at The University of Indiana in 1935 and was on the faculty of Grove City (PA) College before she retired. She moved to Tucson in 1959. Lillian Dice Yoder Welch died May 27, 1996 quietly at her home in Tucson a few months before her 91st birthday. Graveside Services will be at East Lawn Cemetery, E. LEWIS, Dr. Donald B., born March 12, 1908 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, died at home in Tucson on May 23, 1996. He is survived by his wife Harriet “Barky’ Lewis whom he married in 1925. Also remaining are: their daughter, Diane Carey (Lee) of Tucson and son, Donald Jr. (Ginnie) of Dubuque, IA, along with four grandchildren: Jennifer, Jeff, Wendy and Laurie and their respective families; and three great-grandchildren. He and his wife arrived in Tucson in 1937. Don served as a captain in the Army-Air Force during WWII. He was a private practicing urologist until 1976. He continued working for the Veteran’s Hospital and University of Arizona Medical Center until 1991. Don was an avid tennis player and golfer at the Tucson Country Club where he served as president from 1966-1967. He was also an active member of the Western Urological Society and a longtime dedicated member and past president of the Tucson Chapter of the YMCA. Dr. Lewis was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 61 years. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends but many fond memories live on. There will be no services. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to either the First United Methodist Church, 915 E. 4th St. or the YMCA, 60 W. Alameda.

DISHON, Helen, 82, of Green Valley, died April 25, 1996. Survived by husband, James Omar Dishon; daughter, Mary G.
