BAUMGARDNER, Catherine (Happy) Parks, 85, died May 18, 1996, wife of Frank Baumgardner. Survivors are daughter, Susan Kaiser, Valdosta, GA; granddaughter, Catherine Noble, Glasgow, Scotland; and grandsons, Steven Kaiser and Andrew Kaiser, Atlanta, GA; and son, Frank, III, Sebastopol, CA; grandsons, Joel, San Francisco, CA, and William, Portland, OR. Born in Watertown, WI, Catherine was educated at Penn Hall, Chambersburg, PA, Wellesley College, and Parsons School of Design. She was employed at Lord and Taylor, New York, and Mandel Bros., Chicago. Catherine and Frank were married at holiday time in 1936. They moved to Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Jacksonville, FL, and Lancaster, OH, on various assignments with Anchor Hocking Glass. For retirement they chose Tucson and UA in 1968. Catherine (Happy) devoted herself as a docent at the Museum of Art, as a worker at St. Philip’s art gallery and gardens, and to women’s tennis at Skyline Country Club where they were charter-life members. A Memorial Service will be at St. Philip’s In The Hills at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 1996 with the Rev. Dr. Roger Douglas officiating.

COOGAN, Daniel F., Col. U.S.A.F., ret., 67, of Tucson, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, May 15, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Gail and Dan; grandchildren, David, Theresa, and Elizabeth; great grandchildren, Lauren, Sean, Andrew, and Erin; and very special little friends, Ashley, and Amber. A visitation will be held at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd., on Wednesday, May 22, 1996 from noon until 1:00 p.m. Interment and Military Graveside Service will follow immediately after at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.

HOCK, Marie Taylor, age 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 17 in Tucson. She was born in Washington, IN in 1900, then in 1914 moved to Nogales, AZ with her family. She graduated from Flagstaff Normal in 1920 and from Northern Arizona University in 1950 with a B.A. in education. Mrs. Hock resided in Williams, AZ until returning to Nogales in 1946, working as Principal of Lincoln Elementary School. In 1954 she moved to Tucson and began teaching at Prince Elementary School, retiring in 1967. Mrs. Hock is survived by her brother, Richard (Joyce) Taylor, sister, Helen Karam, daughter Peggy (Richard)Ingraham and John (Marla) Hock; grandchildren, Louis Hock, Paul Hock, Alan Hock, Allison Hock-Rose; four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Thank you to Elaine Brown, her caretaker and friend. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m. at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2545 N. Tucson Blvd. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to a charity of your choice.

McELENEY, Ellen, of Tucson, died on May 17, 1996. Our dear Nell went on to be with her friend Jesus, on May 17, 1996. She is survived by daughter, Margaret; numerous nieces, nephews, grand and great grandnieces and nephews, and friends. Her love for others was a consistent inspiration to all who knew her. Nell was born on the Skames, West Cork, Ireland, December 16, 1904. A Funeral Mass will be offered 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with Scripture Services at 7:00 p.m. rected by VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2545 N. Tucson Blvd., 327-6341.

MONPLAISIR, Chester J., 73, of Tucson, died May 17, 1996. Retired Sergeant of the New York City Police Department is survived by daughter, Jeri (Joe) Goldstein of Phoenix; son, Donald (Deborah) of Alabama; two grandsons of Phoenix; and five grandchildren of Alabama. Also survived by his mother and two sisters. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. at Magee from 5:00 p.m. Friday evening until 8:00 p.m. Graveside Services will be held at Holy Hope Cemetery 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25. NELSON, Irma J., 74, passed away May 16, 1996. Preceded in death by husband, Vernon. Loving mother of James P. Baker (Susan), Gary, N.C., Gregory W. Baker (Pamela), Tucson, Richard G. Baker (Donna), Rome, IL, Kathleen A. Trgovich (Donald), Tucson, Kenneth J. Baker (Sandra), Dover, TN, Mark A. Baker (Mary Ann), Dover, TN, Christine M. Roebuck (Robert) Dover, TN, and Timothy G. Baker, Tucson. Survived by sisters, Alice Cole, Alpha IL and Catherine Stewart, Cannon Beach, OR. Also survived by 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Irma was born in Rio, IL, and a resident of Tucson for 27 years. She was a very dedicated retired registered nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Tucson. Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 21 at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, with Msgr Thomas P. Cahalane officiating. Arrangements by HUDGEL-SWAN FUNERAL HOME. Internment Holy Hope Cemetery.

SMITH, Florence Alice, 89, of Tucson, died May 18, 1996. Survived by two sons, Frank (Janet) Smith, Jr. of Syracuse, NY, Gary (Pat) of Anacortes, WA; one daughter, Arlene Sweedler of Tucson, and grandchildren, Audrey Fletcher, Valerie Grimshaw, Carey Smith, Randall Smith, David Sweedler, Jonathan Sweedler, Sarah Sweedler, Laurie Schutya, Kimberly Plant. Memorial Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21st at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave.

HELLWIG, Frederick A., 87, of Tucson, died May 16, 1996. Father of Mrs. John McDonough of Moorehead, MN; three grandchildren. Preceded in death by son, Frederick R. Hellwig and wife, Muriel M. Hellwig. Funeral Services will be held at ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, Tuesday, May 21 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Kim Taylor officiating. Interment East Lawn. KOROBKO, John (NMI) Jr., 46, of Fairbanks, AK and part-time resident of Tucson, died May 15, 1996. Preceded in death by his father. Survivors include mother, Marie L. (Orville) Abney; sister, Gail A. (Raffie) Berberian of Tucson; niece, Arlene Tanya Stoli of CA; uncle, Robert (Vivian) Burns Spencer of Fairbanks, AK; numerous cousins and many friends in Tucson and Alaksa. At John’s request there will be no services. Arrangements by Desert Rose Cremation, Tucson.

MONTGOMERY, Dwight A., 91, died May 16, 1996. Preceded in death by his wife, Berniece; two brothers and a sister. Survived by Bill McMullen of OH, Pat Boher of MO and Betty Cummins of Tucson; several great nieces and nephews as well as great great nieces and nephews. Dwight owned the Montgomery Insurance Agency for many years in Tucson. Friends may call Monday, May 20, 1996 from 10:30 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. at the EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Burial to follow at the East Lawn Palms Cemetery.

SALAZAR, Salvador, 98, of Tucson, died May 15, 1996. Mr. Salazar was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, a long time resident of El Paso and San Antonio, TX, and resided in Tucson, AZ at the time of his death. He is preceded in death by his wife, Luz Ch Salazar and his son, Ruben Salazar. Mr. Salazar was a journalist with the Los Angeles Times and News Director for a Los Angeles TV station. He is survived by his daughter, Luz S. McFarland; son-in-law, Lt. col. John McFarland of Tucson; granddaughters, Lisa of CA, Stephanie of HI; and grandson, John of CA; and five great grandchildren. Salvador was an artist in designing fine jewelry and highly respected by his colleagues who referred to him as “Maestro’ (Master of the Art). He was well known in Mexico as well as the Southwest. Graveside Services will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, San Antonio, TX on Monday, May 27, 1996. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

CARRILLO, Margarita C., age 86, a 40 year Tucson resident, passed away May 10, 1996. Born February 22, 1910 in Mexico. Survived by her niece, Artemisa (Lawrence) Martin and family; sister, Piedad Moreno; many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 1996 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Funeral Service 9:00 a.m. Monday at Centro Evangelistico Cristiano, 1125 S. Park Ave. Pastor Freddy Aragon officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery.

FLEMING, John Douglas, “Big John’, 46, departed and arrived at our Lord’s house on May 7, 1996 where he will be joined, at a later date, by his loving and devoted wife Paula. Memorial Services for Mr. Fleming will be held on Saturday, May 18, 1996 at 4:00 p.m. at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway, 881-0338. Family suggest in lieu of flowers memorials be made to John D. Fleming Memorial Fund thru any Bank of America.

FRAINETTI, Esther, 96, of Tucson, passed away May 15, 1996. Survived by daughters, Gloria Breth and Norma (Phillip) Dierinzo, both of Tucson; sons, Anthony Frainitti of Showlow, AZ, James Frainitti of Midland, PA; William (Cathy) Frainitti of Canonsburg, PA; sister, Irene Casper of Silver Spring, MD; 16 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband, Nicoli Frainetti on March 6, 1976; daughter, Esther Frainitti on November 17, 1994; four brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Frainetti was active in missionary endeavors. Service Monday 9:00 a.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY, with Pastor Jimmy D. Munns officiating. Interment Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY and CEMETERY, N. IGNACIO, William F., 53, of Tucson, passed away May 13, 1996. Survived by sons, Fitzpatrick Sr., Francis and Reese Ignacio; sister, Evangeline Pablo; brothers, Simon and Isaac Sr. Ignacio; grandchildren, Fitzpatrick Jr., Christopher and Garrett Ignacio. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 19, 1996 from 6:00 to 12:00 a.m. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at the San Xavier Feast House. Mass will be offered Monday, May 20, 1996 at 6:30 a.m. at San Xavier Mission. Interment will be at San Xavier Cemetery. Arrangements by TUCSON MORTUARY, INC.

KLOMP, Brian Q., 35, of San Francisco, CA, died May 12, 1996. Survived by parents Clayton and Ruth Klomp of Tucson. Brian was born in Tucson, AZ January 8, 1961. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1986 with a degree in architecture. He moved to San Francisco and became a licensed architect of the State of California. He was employed in San Francisco by architectural firms until he became disabled with complications of the AIDS virus. His partner of over 10 years, Keith Navarro, formerly of Tucson, was at his bedside when a sudden change in his condition caused his death on Sunday. A memorial service is planned on Sunday May 19th at 5pm at Spanish Trail Lutheran Church, 8701 E. Old Spanish Trail, with Pastor Hal Hoekstra officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to any AIDS service organization or Spanish Trail Lutheran Church in Brian’s memory.

SIMKO, Dr. Darrell G., 62, of Tucson, a man who exemplified fitness and vitality, left us suddenly and unexpectedly on May 13, 1996. He was born in Follansbee, WV on January 11, 1934. He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and his Ph.D from The Ohio State University. He coached basketball at Western Reserve University 1966-67. In 1967, he moved his family to Tucson, where he was an Association Profession of Exercise and Sport Sciences at the U of A for 29 years. He was a devoted parishioner and lector at St. Francis de Sales Parish. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Patricia; his dear children, daughter, Christina L. Pace, D.D.S. of Bellingham, WA; son, Jeffery J. Simko and Jackie and Shawn Collins, daughter, Kathleen E. Simko, all of Tucson, daughter, and son-in-law, Kimberly A. and Mark Hicks, of Glendale, AZ; father-in-law, Raymond Reinel of Tucson; sister and brother-in-law, Clare and Mickey Boston of Killbuck, OH, sister and brother-in-law, Marylou and Thomas Gallagher of Cleveland, OH; sister-in-law, Kathleen Dowe of Lakewood, OH; nephews, Robert, Donald, Thomas, and Timothy; nieces Patricia and Therese and many cousins. He had so many friends, especially Dr. Boyd and Peggy Baker, Dr. Kam and Alice Nasser, and William and Mary Anne Daley. There simply is not enough room to name everyone, but you all know who you are and our family’s heart-felt thanks goes out to you at this difficult time. Finally, his little canine friend, SanDee, misses him very much. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, May 18, 1996, 9:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Parish, 1375 S. Camino Seco, with Fr. Bob Tominga officiating. In lieu of flowers, our family requests donations be made to the Darrell G. Simko Memorial Scholarship Fund, Dept. of Physical Ed., Ina Giddings Bldg. Rm 106, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ 85721.

STEVENSON, Ronald Wayne, 45, died May 14, 1996. Survived by wife, Maggie Rogers of Tucson; daughter, April L. (Chris) Mamahua of Miami, AZ; son, Jerrad Stevenson of Tucson; parents, Dorothy and Carl Stevenson of Tucson; sisters, Brenda Saul of Tucson and Debra Gick of Martinez, GA; brothers, Michael Stevenson of Tucson and Gary Stevenson of Lafayette, IN; and 12 grandchildren. Friends may call Saturday, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY and CEMETERY, N. Oracle and W. Miracle Mile.

WHITE, Edna E., 84, died May 15, 1996. Born in Hammond, IN in 1911. She was a bookkeeper and a homemaker of Tucson, and formerly of Modesto, CA. Survived by son, Richard M. Stagg; sister, Beatrice Laird; brother, Mel Hesterman; one granddaughter; one grandson; three great grandchildren; two daughter-in-laws; and friend and care giver, Ruth Garza. No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Community Hospice. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

Survived by brother, Juan Abechuco; children, Mr. and Mrs. Ernesto Martinez, Mr. and Mrs. Abelardo Martinez, Mr. and Mrs. Armando Martinez, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Martinez, Mr. and Mrs. Arnulfo Martinez, Mrs. Belen Cisneros and Mrs. Martha Robles; 32 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 1996 at TUCSON MORTUARY, 204 S. Stone Ave. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 17, 1996 at St. John’s Catholic Church, 602 W. Ajo Way.

EMERLING, Lawrence Milton (Larry) Sr., born January 13, 1926, passed away May 11, 1996. Loving husband of Mary of 48 years; father of Lawrence Jr., wife Cathy; daughter, Linda Clark, husband Herman. Will be greatly missed by grandson, Frank and great granddaughter, Ashley. His loving kindness and humor will be deeply missed. A Memorial to be held at Tucson Baptist Temple Chapel, 1525 S.
