Julian Steve Munoz
Julian Steve Munoz, 41, passed away October 23, 2001 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born February 19, 1960. Mr. Munoz graduated from Yuma Union High School and Phoenix Institute of Technology. He was employed by Intertell Communications.
Survivors include; his wife Elizabeth G. Munoz of Phoenix, mother Frances L. Munoz and brother, Danny J. Munoz of Yuma, sister Malissa A. Ochoa (Raul), brothers Charles F. Munoz, Adrian J. Munoz (Hilda) all of Mesa, Az. nephew Daniel J. Munoz of Yuma, nieces and nephews, Jessica, Tejahra and Jami Ochoa and Jesus J. Munoz and Selena Munoz all of Mesa.
Mr. Munoz was preceded in death by his father Julian C. Munoz
Services were held at Greer Wilson Funeral Chapel in Phoenix Arizona October 26th from 5:00p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with rosary at 7:00 p.m Funeral services were held October 27, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. Final resting place is Holy Cross Cemetery.
Pallbearers included Sergio Bustamante, Chris Contreras, Danny Munoz, Charles Munoz, Adrian Munoz, and Raul Ochoa.
Honorary Bearers included Tony De Los Reyes, Micheal Felix, Jesse Bustamante, Ernie Vasquez, and Pat Hernandez.
La Vera Diercks
La Vera Diercks, 97, passed away October 29, 2001 at Yuma Regional Medical Center. She was born April 12, 1904 in Portland Iowa. Mrs. Diercks spent her life trying to make others happy.
Survivors include granddaughters, Janet Diercks Olson and Dorathea Harlowe, grandson, John A Diercks, step-granddaughters Gail Pedelty and Denise Kopp and daughter-in-law Norma Diercks, great-grandchildren Erika Olson, Jon Olson, Joshua Diercks, John Diercks, Steven Kopp, and Thomas Kopp.
Mrs. Diercks was preceded in death by her husband John A Diercks and son, Jack J. Diercks.
Memorial inurnment service to be held later in Iowa, with final resting place Elmwood Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa.
Mary Evelyn Bennington
Mary Evelyn Bennington, 78, of Yuma passed away October 24, 2001 in Phoenix, AZ. Born in Oklahoma City, OK. Mary moved to Arizona in 1963. She is survived by her husband Ivey, sons David Broyles of Gilbert, AZ. Michael Hipps of Phoenix, AZ. Daughter Carolyn Johnston of Chandler of Az., 3 grandchildren & 3 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Nov. 3, 2001 1:00 p.m., at the Kingdom Hall 1661 Avenue D. Yuma, AZ.
Richard Kentucky Polk Sr., 60, passed away October 29, 2001 in Yuma, Arizona. He was born December 18, 1940. Mr. Polk, a retired rancher, was General Manager at Cocopah Bend RV & Golf Resort.
Survivors include; his wife Joann Polk of Yuma, AZ., sons, Richard K. Polk Jr. (Molly) of Newport Beach, California and Dan L. Polk II (Kelly) of Stocton, California, sister Linda Timothy (Ron) of Fort St. James of B.C. Canada, brother James K. Polk (Sheila) of Martinez, California, sister, Martha Polk (Howard) Kam Loops, B.C. Canada. and 5 grandchildren.

Charles Glenn Townsend
Charles Glenn Townsend, 95, a resident of Yuma for the past ten years, died October 30, 2001. He was a member of First Christian Church, Council Bluffs, Iowa and retired from Farmland Industries as a truck driver.
Survivors include his children, Glenn C. (Bernadette) Townsend, of Yuma, Gloria Clark, of Iowa and Tim (Betty) Townsend, of Walnut Shade, MO.; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Mr. Townsend was preceded in death by his wife Alice in 1998.
Friends may call 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 1, 2001 at Sunset Vista Funeral Home, 11357 E. 40th Street.
Funeral services will be on Friday, November 2, 2001 at 10:00 AM at Sunset Vista Funeral Home with Pastor Doug McAllister officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Vista Cemetery.
Virginia E. Drumm
Virginia E. Drumm, 81, passed away on October 30, 2001 at Yuma Regional Medical Center. She was born on November 18, 1919 in Los Angeles, CA. She was retired from Marlin Packing, and worked for Yuma School System and Golden Y Packing. She was a member of the Women’s Rod and Reel Club. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, square dancing and loved family gatherings.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda (John ) Young, of Yuma; son, Russell H. Drumm Jr, of Tucson; grandchildren, Stacie (Dave) Walton, of Denver, Dean Amavisca (Tima), of Yuma, Stephanie (Alex) Arellano, of Meridian CA, John (Denise) Young, of Yuma, Dustin Drumm and Amber (Jarret)Nelson, both of Yuma; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jim Rinker, of Napa, CA, Richard Rinker, of Blairsden, CA, Gene Rinker, of Yuma and Larry Bihler of Sonoma, CA.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell Drumm and daughter, Barbara Amavisca.
Graveside services will be held at Desert Lawn Memorial Park on Monday, November 5, 2001 at 11:00 AM. Bill Watkins will officiate. The Garden of Honor will be her final resting place.
Emily Magee
An extremely gracious ladyPassed away Nov. 1, 2001 at the age of 91. She was a loving generous wife, aunt, neighbor, friend and a long time resident of Saguaro Estates.
She had her nails and her hair done and went to meet Budd for their anniversary, it would have been 71 years. Her Budd passed 11 days ago.
Rita Mesa Ortiz
Rita Meza Ortiz, 69, passed away October 30, 2001in Yuma, Az. She was born February 27, 1932 in Yuma, Az. She was a member of the Catholic Church.
Survivors include husband, Feliz Ortiz Sr.; sons, Felix Ortiz Jr., Richard Ortiz, and Frank Nunez; daughters, Mary Humildad, Susie Martinez, and Anna Collins; sisters, Jenny Nuno and Carmen Sosa; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her brother Gregorio Meza.
Visitation will be held at Yuma Mortuary on Sunday, November 4, 2001 from 5PM - 8PM, with the rosary at 7PM. Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Monday, November 5, 2001 at 9AM. She will be cremated.
Pallbearers will be Felix Ortiz Jr., Isaac Martinez, Mike Stubbs, Fernando Perez, Isaac Ortiz and Freddy Meza. Honorary Bearers will be Richard Jr., and Felix Ortiz III.
The Family regrets omitting these family members: Uncles Luther (Jeannie), Neil (Deborah), Lester (Diane), Gary and Billy White. Great uncles Paul and Will Ortega Sr.
Art Blohm
Arthur Willard Blohm was born in Yuma, Arizona on October 20, 1935 to Margaret Guthrie Blohm and Willard Frederick Blohm. He passed away on November 2, 2001, at his home.
Art graduated from Somerton Grammar School in 1949 and attended Yuma Union High School, until his senior year. He was in the first graduating class from Antelope Union High School in 1953. He was student body president. He enjoyed playing basketball. He was a Boy Scout and made Eagle Scout in 1952. He was a member of Antelople Future Farmers of America, becoming State Vice President and received the State Farmer Degree. He married Mary Jo Graham in 1953 and they had four children. Art was on the Growers Mohawk Gin Board, Calcot Board and Farm Credit Services Board for 20 years. He was also a partner in Roll Warehouse Inc. He was an outstanding farmer in the Wellton Mohawk Valley. He was an avid hunter. He enjoyed long range fishing trips to Mexico and recieved a Sportsman of the Year Award.
Survivors include, daughters, Cheryl (Kevin) and Maggy (Rich); son, Mike (Bobbi); grandchildren, Jeremy, Kendall, Heidi, Geoffrey, Fred and Spencer; brothers, Thom and George; Aunt Flo and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, father and son, Fred.
Funeral services will be held at Johnsons Mortuary on Tuesday, November 6, 2001 at 1:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Alex Urtuzuastegui, George Murdock, Joe Hoffman, Clyde Cuming, Jim Cuming and Ronnie Yowell. Honorary bearers will be Ron Eriksen, Russell Byrd, Robert Taylor, Bob Harman, Tom Drysdale, Marvin Pierson, Ray Fritz, Keith Neinast and Fidel Jorajuria.
Interment will follow with Desert Lawn Memorial Park as his final resting place alongside his son.

Art’s gruff voice and soft heart will be missed by all of his family and friends.
Kenneth C. Brown
Kenneth C. Brown Sr, 74, of Yuma, AZ died Oct. 28, 2001 in Merced CA after a brief illness. Mr. Brown was born in Nashua NH on November 11, 1926. He was the son of Charles Henry Brown and Dorothy (Waters) Brown Dow. A Navy veteran during WWII, he also spent 13 yrs. with the NH Air Nat'l Guard and retired in 1994 from the Catholic Medical Center at Manchester NH. In his retirement he had been employed as "Ken the Handyman". His passion was WWII memorabilia, airplanes and old cars.
In addition to his mother and father he was predeceased by a brother Charles (Chuck) Brown of Yuma; two sisters Audrey Hill, Virginia Brown and step-father Charles Dow.
Survivors include his wife; son Kenneth C. Brown Jr. of Manchester, four step-children, June Bardsley of Amherst NH, Stephen Carrier of Sturbridge MA, Sally Goetz of Florence TX and Thomas Carrier of Columbia MD; eight grandchildren; a sister, Alice LaTullippe of Milford NH, twin brother, Wendall of Tallahassee FL; several nieces and nephews; and a dear friend Madge Lewis.

Shirley Jean Kirkpatrick
Shirley Jean Kirkpatrick 73, of Yuma died October 31, 2001. She is survived by her daughters: Kathy Syler of San Jose, Ca., Meri Troy of Westminster, Colorado and Joyce Brock of Highland, Ca., twelve grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Kirkpatrick was preceded in death by her husband: Loren Keith Kirkpatrick in October, 2000.
