LEDBETTER, John F., born June 18, 1918, in Minneapolis, MN, died at home in Tucson on May 7, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Jane (Kottke), whom he met at Hamline University in St. Paul, MN, and married in 1940, and by their three children, Steven of Newton Center, MA, Jill Childress of Louisville, KY, and Mark of Henderson, NV; six grandchildren, William of New York, NY, Joanna of Ithaca, NY, John Nagel of Pasadena, CA, Stephanie Nagel of New Orleans, LA, Susi Childress of Great Falls, MT and Eric of Henderson, NV; and by two sisters, Betty Bickley of Johnstown, PA and Barbara Nelson of Harris, MN. He moved with his family from Minneapolis to Tucson in 1953 as a representative of IDS; later, among other activities, he set up and managed the first car-leasing operation for Bill Breck Dodge. In 1954 he was a founding member of the Tucson Civitan Club and gradually moved up through leadership positions in the organization, becoming the president of Civitan International in 1960-70. A longtime member of Catalina United Methodist Church, he was the head usher there for 35 years and later became leader of the Homebuilders class; he was actively involved in the cancer support group. MORENO, Ignacio C., age 88, a 27 year resident of Tucson, passed away May 7, 1996. Born February 29, 1908 in Sonora, Mexico. SUTER, Frances E., of Tucson, passed away on May 5, 1996 at home. Preceded by her lifelong friend and devoted husband, Walter. Survived by brother, Charles (Gloria), sister, Betty (Thurston); children, Gary of Lincoln, NE, Dale (Sandy), Craig (Diane), and 10 grandchildren. Frances served as a W.A.C. during WWII, where she met Walter while stationed at Davis Monthan A.F.B. Together, they traveled with the military around the U.S. and Japan, finally settling in Tucson in 1959. Frances was extremely active in many church and community organizations including the American Cancer Society, Neighborhood Watch, and as a volunteer nurse for the public school district. She also devoted time as the family historian. A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m., May 19, 1996 in the Chapel at Christ Church United Methodist. BAUER, George J., Jr., age 88, of Tucson, died May 4, 1996. He was a self-employed businessman and the owner of automotive parts and accessory stores, with maintenance and repair facilities. Mr. Bauer is survived by Ada, his wife of 66 years; his son, Ronald (Janie) Bauer and their three daughters: Ronna (Bruce) Darby, Shanna (Mark) Thorsrud of Tucson, and Courtney (Randy) Bongard of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are his deceased daughter Barbara (Phillip) Gunter's three sons: Michael, Wayne and Geoffrey (Cindy) Gunter; brothers, Wilford (Norma), Leonard (Audrey) Bauer of Salt Lake City, UT; sisters, Nellie (Al) Merrill of Salt Lake City, UT and Florence (Worth) Porter of San Diego, CA; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. BORTLE, Donald E., Lt. Col. USAF, Ret., 69, died May 6, 1996. Mr. Bortle attended Oneida High School and St. Lawrence University and Cornell University, all in New York. He was fighter pilot for 31 years, a WWII veteran, two tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam. He flew F80's, F84's, F86's, F100's, F5's and F4's. He was a member of the DAV and Elks, Retired Affairs Office at DMAFB, VITA, TCE and Rolling Hills Golf Course. CLEVELAND, Romilda W., 86, went to her heavenly home on May 6, 1996. She is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, Sam Cleveland; two sons, Don and Ron Branaman; four grandchildren, Mark, Robin, Terry and Scott; and one great-grandchild, Luke. Romilda was born in 1910 in Bloomington, IL and has lived in Tucson since 1947. She had a lifelong love of gardening and music. She has been a member of Grace Lutheran Church for the last 49 years, playing the piano and organ for the Ladies Aid and Dorcas Society for many of those years. Romilda was a caring and loving mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed. The Funeral Service will be held Friday, May 10 at Grace Lutheran Church, 830 N. First Avenue. She is a graduate of both Catalina High School and The University of Arizona. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Pennington and her mother, Hazel Pennington.
