CLARK, Lowana F., 55, died August 7, 1996. She is loved and remembered by family: Terence Clark, her husband of 36 years; daughters, Lori McIver and Tricia Clark; son, Terence Clark Jr.;parents, Marvin and Reba Lawless; brother, Roscoe Lawless; grandchildren, Katie and Shamus McIver. A graduate of Catalina High School and resident of Phoenix, Strawberry, and most recently Tucson. Lowana will be missed by many friends throughout the state. Services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 1996 at 1:00 p.m. at Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave., Tucson, arranged by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES.

DIXON, Peggy R., born August 24, 1913, died July 25, 1996. Preceded in death by husband, James Dixon and son, Michael. Survived by son, James; and daughter, Doras; and much loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Remembered by friends, neighbors and co-workers from Panchos. Adios Muneca.

FERRIS, Diane Marie, 40, passed away August 6, 1996 in Tucson, Arizona. Diane was born September 11, 1955 to Patricia and Steve Ferris in Detroit, MI. She attended school in Detroit, graduating in 1973. Diane received a BS Degree from Michigan State University as an occupational therapist, a profession she practiced for 15 years. She also earned her MFA in Ceramics at the University of Arizona and became a well known artist whose work has been exhibited locally and nationally. Diane was united in marriage to Gary Benna June 20, 1987 at her parents home in Tucson, AZ. Diane is survived by her husband, Gary Benna of Tucson; stepdaughter, Shannon Benna of Council Bluffs, IA; parents, Pat and Steve Ferris of Tucson, AZ; brother, Steven Ferris of Coral Springs, FL; maternal grandmother, Mary Simler of North Port, FL; and a host of relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, August 11, 8:00 a.m. at Tucson Botanical Gardens.

FRANCIS, Eugene Carl, 60, of Tucson, died July 30, 1996. Survived by wife, Dale Francis; daughter, Lori Renois; mother, Jane Baker; grandsons, Joshua and Christopher Renois; sister, Arlene Freeman. Memorial Service will be held 11:30 a.m., Saturday, August 10, 1996 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Leukemia Society, 2990 E. HARRISON, William F., 68, died August 1, 1996. Father of Michael (Dawn) Harrison of Phoenix, Dayle (Scott) Barker of Tucson and Patrick Harrison of Tucson; grandfather of Larry, Michael, Brian, Daniel, Brandyn and Brittani. He was preceded in death by wife, Roberta G. Harrison. Memorial Service 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 1996 at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, 710 S. KELLY, Ruth E., 84, ordained minister of awareness, noted mixed media artist and teacher, mother and exceptionally gifted lady, passed over August 5, 1996 in Tucson. Born October 1, 1911 in San Mateo, CA. Tucson resident for 35 years, she loved and lived life her way. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou McSherry of Everett, WA; and son, Charles T. Orr-Kelly of Westminster, CO. A Memorial Tribute will be Tuesday, August 13, 1996 at 7:00 p.m. at the Montessori Center, 3333 E. Grant Rd. NAJAR, Nicholas M., 102, of Fort Davis, TX, passed away on August 7, 1996. Survived by daughters, Mary and Betty Najar of Tucson, Julie Burge and Virginia Gonzales of TX; sons, Nicholas and Robert (Dolores) Najar of TX, Ronnie Najar of Tucson; sister, Chana Rodriguez of TX; brother, Lalo Mendoza of CA; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many beloved family from Carlsbad, NM and TX. He served as a World War I Army Veteran. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 11, 1996 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. “SLATS”

QUINN, Roy James II, passed away Saturday, July 27, 1996 while visiting his brother in Sonoma, CA. He was born August 22, 1946 in Tucson, at the Stork’s Nest. Slats is survived by his wife, Keen; his two daughters, Kathryn and Carolyn; his parents, Roy and Betty Quinn; his brother, Rich Quinn of Sonoma, CA; his sister, Leslie McCormick of Ventura, CA; his nephew, Sean; and nieces, Shea, Meghan, Molly, Kirsten McCormick, Emily and Kaitlin McDonnell. Slats graduated from Peter Howell, Alice Vail, and Rincon High School. He earned a BS in Business Administration and a Masters of Education from the University of Arizona. He earned a BA and a Masters of Science in International Management at Thunderbird Graduate School of International Trade. After graduating he worked for his father at Quinn Paving. He later decided to become a teacher and never regretted this choice. Slats loved teaching science and was committed to the students with whom he was fortunate enough to work. Slats especially enjoyed the time he spent on a horse being a cowboy. He was extremely knowledgeable about the animals and plants of the desert. Slats’ true love is and always will be, Keen, his lifelong friend and partner. They have been together for over 40 years and were married 28 years ago. Slats was extremely proud of his two daughters. You could see a glow come over his face when either Kathryn or Carolyn entered the room. No man could have loved his children more. Family and friends were important to Slats. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Social Fraternity and cherished the lifelong fraternal friendships he made. He loved to be with his friends, and his friends loved him. Slats enjoyed life and helped us all see the beauty and fun that was around us. He was always there when you needed him. We will all miss Slats for our own special reasons. In honor of Slats’ life and love a celebration will be held Saturday, August 10, 2:00 pm. at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, 3809 E. 3rd St. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Slats’ name to Sunnyside High School to help the students that were so important to him. All of us are your students Slats, and you have taught us well. We know you are watching over us, and someday we will again walk into your classroom. We love you Slats, and you will always be an important part of us.

RAYMOND, Timothy E., 61, of Tucson, died August 6, 1996. Beloved husband of Penny; devoted father of Chris (Sue) Raymond, Cindy (Dan) Beitel, Tony and Craig Raymond; grandchildren, Christopher, Timothy and Patrick Raymond, Sarah and Penny Beitel; one brother; and two sisters. STEVENSON, Bayard Taylor, 74, died August 7, 1996. Husband of Jewel Ann Stevenson of Oracle Junction; father of Bayard T. Stevenson and Joseph Stevenson; brother of, Isabelle Reiche; grandfather of Joanna Stevenson, all of Tucson. Private services will be held. The family suggests donations in memory of Bayard T. STOWELL, Dorothy Amelia Duncan, 91, a resident of Arizona for 55 years, passed away August 3, 1996 in Tucson. Born January 13, 1905 in Woodward, IA. A longtime member of St. Marks Presbyterian Church in Tucson and A Daughter of the American Revolution. Survived by daughter-in-law, Emily Stowell; wife of Bill Stowell, deceased; grandson, David Stowell; granddaughters, Christine Snider and Gloria Hastie; grandson, Jonathon Stowell; daughter, Ruth Gene Bruner; grandson, Richard Bruner; granddaughter, Ann Bruner Welsh; 11 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 p.m., Monday, August 12, 1996 at St. Marks Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY.

VASQUEZ, Ralph ‘Frank’, 34, of Tucson, died July 1, 1996. Survived by mother, Mary Lou Insco of Clearlake, CA; father, Andres Vasquez of Tucson; one sister; four brothers; grandmother, Fannie Chacon; numerous aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends. Memorial Service 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 9 at ARIZONA MORTUARY CHAPEL, 7 E.University Blvd. at Stone.

VUKCEVICH, Robert John ‘George’, 76, former resident of Tucson, passed away August 2, 1996 in Safford, AZ. Born January 7, 1920 in Miami, AZ to immigrant parents John and Violet Vukcevich of Montenegro, Yugoslavia. He was raised in Globe, AZ and attended Globe High School. In 1950 he graduated from ASU where he earned a degree in education. He played football at Tempe and he still holds the record for having carried the ball three times, scoring three touchdowns for ASU against Fresno State. He worked for the Arizona Highway Patrol in Tempe Mesa. He was also director of athletics and military training at Marana Air Base. George retired from State DES Investigations. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Nick; and earlier this year his beloved daughter, Patricia; and his brother Steve Vukcevich. He is survived by his children, Micheal Vuke, and Susie Miller; grandchildren, David Vukcevich, Randy Mangham, Misha Vuke, Angela Murphy, Charolotte Vuke, Edy Vuke and Denise Miller. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, at the VFW Hall, 707 S. Broad, Globe, AZ. It will be followed by a reception.

WITZ, Theodore a., 90, of Tucson, died August 8, 1996. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen. Survived by his dear sister, Jeanette W. Mallinger of Tucson.Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, August, 10, 9:00 a.m. At St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Van Wagner officiating. WONG, Robert Seen, 77, entered into rest peacefully on August 7, 1996 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wong Wing Seen and Dang Shee Wong, also of Tucson. His survivors include brothers, Ralph Wong of Long Beach, CA, Alfred (Lillian) Wong of San Francisco, CA, Roy (Ruth) Wong of Piedmont, CA; and sisters, Cleo Yee of Eloy, AZ, Mary Yee of Casa Grande, AZ; Tiny Mae Wong, Rosalie Wong, Louise (Raymond) Lee of Tucson, Shirley Robb of Tacoma, WA; 13 nephews and nieces; 14 great-nephews and nieces. Robert was born March 20, 1919 in Nogales, AZ. He attended schools in Nogales and Tucson. Because of his great love for plants, he majored in Horticulture at the University of Arizona. During the War Years he was employed by Consolidated Aircraft and Ryan Airfield. The family business – R & R Fancy Foods – was started in 1946 and was managed by ‘Bob’. Subsequently he moved to San Francisco, CA where he was employed by the Bank of America for 20 years. Upon his retirement as supervisor of Data Processing in 1985, he returned home to Tucson. Services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 9:00 a.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 East Grant Road, Tucson, AZ. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate any donations to Bob’s favorite television station, IN MEMORY OF ROBERT SEEN WONG, KUAT-PBS Television Station, P.O. Box 28821 Tucson, AZ 85726.

CAMPAS, Gilbert S., 47, born in Tucson, AZ on March 8, 1949, passed away on August 6, 1996. Preceded in death by mother Alicia S. Campas; loving daughters, Dyna Renee (Paul) Sabin, Cristine Ann Campas and Maricela Campas, all of Tucson; also survived by father, Cristobal A. Campas; sisters, Sylvia (Steve) Molera, Diane (David) Hooper; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Gilbert was employed as a teacher at Cragin Elementary and golf coach at Pueblo High School, both of Tucson Unified School District. He was also treasurer of Club Amistad Golf Association. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.Visitation will be held on Friday, August 9, 1996, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at St. Ambrose Church, 300 S. Tucson Blvd, with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Saturday, August 10, 1996 at St. Ambrose Church 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers, Paul W. CARSTENSEN, Harold G. ‘Tass’, II, 46, died August 4, 1996. Devoted father of Megan Carstensen of Phoenix; son of Harold G. Carstensen of TX; brother of Kim Jensen of CA, Todd R. Carstensen of NJ and Scott Carstensen of CA; several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his mother. E. Gale Green Carstensen. Graveside Service 12:30 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 1996 at TMP, East Lawn with Chaplain William L. Killian officiating. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

CLEMENS, Edward B., 77, of Tucson, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 1996. Survivors include: loving daughter, Patricia (Henry) Huerta; three grandchildren, Michelle Pullin, Darron Pullin and Christopher Clemens; two great grandchildren, Devin McClain and Morgan Pullin. Mr. Clemens was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Hazel in October 1992; and son, Steven in September 1993. He is also survived by three sisters, Una Sprowls, Myrna Clemens and Audrey Quetsch, all of PA. Mr. Clemens was born March 8, 1919. When he was 21 years old, he joined the Army in October 1940 and was honorably discharged in July 1945. During that period of time, he was a prisoner of war in Germany. Mr. Clemens was presented his POW Medal by Senator John McCain, himself a POW, 43 years after Mr. Clemens had been captured in Europe. Mr. Clemens moved his family to Tucson on July 4, 1956, where he owned and operated two successful businesses. Ed was a charter member of Sahuaro and Pueblo Optimist Clubs of Tucson and a charter member of the Dorado Men’s Golf Club. Memorial Services will be at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 1996. The family suggests that any Memorials be sent to T.M.C., Hospice Dept, 5301 E. Grant Rd, Tucson, AZ 85712 in Mr. Clemens memory. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).
