BRATTON, Anna Beatrice, age 52, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 1996. Survived by her husband, Ernest Bratton married in 1957 in Florence, AZ; mother, Lucille Nichols of Tucson; stepfather, Claude Nichols of Tucson; sisters, Cynthia Bomesberger of Marana, Ruth M. Kiss of FL. Mother of four and grandmother of seven. Ann began her career picking cotton by hand. In 1970 Ann and Ernie began their own custom cotton picking business. In 1976 Ann and Ernie purchased their first farm in Avra Valley. By 1990 Ann had purchased her own 426 acre cotton farm in Avra Valley and accumulated nearly 60 head of cattle. Ann is loved by all who know her and will be dearly missed. Service will be held at EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile, on Sunday, August 4 at 10:00 a.m.

GOMEZ, Henry A. “Bambi’, 68, born in Tucson, AZ on August 11, 1927, passed away August 1, 1996. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rosenda; his daughter, Dalia Gomez Howell (O’Dell); son, Enrique Perez Gomez; and grandsons, Simon A. Ash III (Veronica), Marcos A. Ash, David A. Ash, and O’Dell Enrique Howell III. Bambi entered the armed forces in 1945 and served with the 3rd Bomb Group in Yokota, Japan until his discharge in 1947. He later applied his education and training as an aircraft mechanic at DMAFB until his retirement in 1982. In 1979, Bambi was inducted into the Arizona Baseball Hall of Fame for his contributions to the sport and his involvement of youth in the sport for more than 30 years. His talent as a leather craftsman will be honored with an exhibition of his work on November 2, 1996 at the University of Arizona’s Southwest Folklore Center, sponsored by the U of A and the University of Houston. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 5, 1996 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at TUCSON MORTUARY, South Chapel, 240 S. McCARTHY, John T., 56, passed away on July 31, 1996 at his home. He is survived by his brother, James (Verna) McCarthy; sisters, Frances Ann (Andy) Willaert and Marcella (Mike) Myhre; he is also survived by sons, Terrence (Camela) McCarthy, Quinn (Gwendolyn) McCarthy, Patrick McCarthy; and daughter, Dana McCarthy; and his grandchildren, Calvin, Nikolas, Robert and Richard. John was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Jensen. John was born on September 20, 1939 in Mankato, MN. He received his bachelor and masters degree from Mankato State University in education. John and his family moved to Tucson from MN in July 1977 where he was employed by the Flowing Wells School District as elementary school principal. He also worked for the Vail School District. He retired in 1991 from the Catholic Schools as Superintendent. A Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 5 at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco. NIEHUS, Lucile Marguerite, was born April 2, 1923 in Dayton, OH. Preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Hernden and Elsie Niehus; brother, Donald Neihus; and nephew, Larry Niehus. She is survived by brother, Hugo E. Niehus, Jr. (Elsa), Dayton, OH; nieces, Nancy Hernden, Tucson, AZ, Carol Niehus, Berkeley, CA and Connie Owens, Miami, FL; nephews, Terry Niehus, Atlanta, GA, Carl Niehus, Orange, CA, Jeffrey (Miriam) Niehus, Dayton, OH; and seven grand-nephews and nieces. Lucile graduated from Oberlin College. She also attended Duke University where she was selected to train with Sister Kenny when polio broke out. She retired as a physical therapist from Jewish Hospital, Cincinnati, OH to Tucson in 1975. She was a member of the Tucson Audubon Society and the Catalina Roadrunners Club. She was also an office volunteer at Trinity Presbyterian Church. A Memorial Service will be held later this month at Trinity Presbyterian Church. EARLY, Cynthia Jo, age 34, died Sunday, July 28, 1996 while visiting Los Angeles. She was born in Falls Church, VA on November 22, 1961. She graduated Suma Cum Laude from Saginaw Valley State University with an MBA degree. She was a co-owner of Mitchell Financial Services, a Tucson based mortgage bank. She is survived by her brother, Joseph E. Greene III; her mother, Jo Anne Cochran; her father, Joseph Earle Greene Jr., all of Tucson; and her maternal grandmother, Lilla Cleo Campbell of Royal Oak, MI; and her paternal grandfather, Joseph E. NELSON, Gloria, 71, died July 30, 1996 while visiting family in Florida. She and her husband of nearly 50 years, Vernon had lived in Tucson since 1972. Born in Adams County, ND, she attended public schools in Lemmon, SD and Weslyan University in Mitchell, SD. She created a loving home for her family which includes husband, Vernon; daughter, Linda; and granddaughter, Melanie of Phoenix; sisters, Joan Peed of Colorado Springs and Patricia Perez of Tempe; and brothers, Ronald Hannah of Edgewater, FL and Wayne Hannah of Beaumont, TX. PATE, Manoah Lasley, died in Tucson, July 29, 1996. Tucson resident since 1965. Born in Labanon, KY, February 21, 1909. Manoah settled in the west as a young man. He studied mining and geology at the University of Washington and the Montana School of Mines. He mined a variety of minerals in CA, PA, British Guiana, NM and AZ (Inspiration, Wickenburg, Grand Canyon, Tucson). During retirement, he was an active member of Tucson’s Old Pueblo Lapidary Club and Powers from the Past (a club dedicated to the restoration and preservation of antique engines). He is survived by his wife, Regina; son and daughter-in-law, William Franklin and Martha Crowley Pate; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Prodromos Papavasiliou; and grandchildren, Alexandros and Nell Papavasiliou. RODRIGUEZ, Maria De Los Angeles Corral, 76, of Tucson, AZ, passed away July 31, 1996. She was known as Geli by her family and called Angie by many of her friends. She enjoyed music, singing, dancing and she loved to watch football. She believed strongly in the power of learning and education. She worked hard throughout her life, was kind and generous to all, and loved by many. BAKER, Dr. Richard, born January 23, 1931, died in Chili on Saturday, July 27, 1996. He continues his journey in the presence of the Lord. Dr. Baker is a graduate of the University of Vermont, received his Masters from Dartmouth and his PhD in Geology from the University of Michigan. He was conducting geological field work in the Andes at the time of his death. He is survived by wife, Jacqueline; five children: David Baker, Judy Baker, Nancy Baker, Richard Baker and Carrie Anne Kilpatrick; four grandchildren: Lindsey Baker, Jennifer Baker, Ryan Baker and Richard Baker; and a half-sister, Alta Joy Baker. Dick loved geology and exploration; he was a gentle, kind man who will be missed by friends and family. A Memorial Service will be held at the Evangelical Free Church, 4700 N.
