CARROLL, Eleanor Strosnider, died July 15, 1996 in Tucson, AZ. Eleanor was born November 2, 1921 in Waynesburg, PA, the daughter of James and Margaret Morrison Strosnider. MIDDLETON, Matie Winstead, born May 18, 1925, died July 14, 1996 in Midland, MI. Preceded in death by mother and father, Melton Fedreck Fraie and Frances Marion Fraie; first husband, Walter Wigley in a plane crash at Davis Monthan in 1947; and second husband, Walter J. Winstead. Survived by husband, Jim Allen Middleton; children, Melton Andrew Wigley Winstead (Sandy), Walter Duran Wigley Winstead, Tamra Kathryn Winstead Hurly, Sandra Kay Winstead Peters, Richard Winstead Lore (Marie), David Middleton, Susan Bennett (Kim) and Joan Bedolla (Nathan); sisters, Lillian Wales and Hazel Barr, both of CA; sister-in-law, Jewell F. Daggett (Bill); nephew, Charles E. Campbell (Lynn); 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. At the age of 36 Matie returned to college and received her Bachelors Degree in May, 1972 and her Masters degree in 1976. She was on the honor roll. She taught music and education at Safford Jr. High School, retiring in 1993 so she and her husband could travel. She and her husband Walter Winstead were active with the Gilbert and Sullivan Theater Group. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, July 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Hudgel’s SWAN FUNERAL HOME, 1335 S. SUNDGAARD, Magnus C. “Sonny’, 59, went home July 22, 1996 after a lengthy illness. Sonny was a devoted husband and loving father. BOSTICK, Mary Lisalda, 84, of Douglas, AZ passed away July 20, 1996.
Mary was a guardian angel to many people on this earth. Her mission was finally done and our Heavenly Father took her from us on Saturday, July 20, 1996.
Mary was born in Douglas, AZ, April 7, 1912. She moved to Tucson and attended Davis and Safford Elementary and Junior High School. Mary worked at Kress for many years. She was known for her beautiful singing voice. Mary sang at many weddings and special events in Tucson. She sang with Lalo Guerrero and the symphony orchestra. The first Tucson Boy’s Choir director trained her singing voice. In South Dakota she sang with municipal band. Walt Disney wanted to give her a contract for her to sing in their movies.
Mary wed Charles Topp Bostick in April of 1944. They moved to San Diego and Wisconsin during World War II. Mary worked for the U of A Home Economic Extension Program for many years and also as a teachers aide in Douglas, AZ. Mary was a very strong believer in education. She helped many people get scholarships to pursue their education. She was on the YMCA board and library board in Douglas and was a volunteer with the Salvation Army. She was a active member of the Latin Methodist Church.
Preceded in death by her husband, Charles T. Bostick. Mary is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Frank Roqueni, Rosanna and Rich Gallagher, and Helen Grijalva; six grandchildren, Andrea and Aaron Roqueni, Richy and Ryan Gallagher, and Lacey and Paul Grijalva; brother, Jose Lisalda; and sister Concha Jimenez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary will be remembered by her family and friends as a woman who lived well, laughed often and was loved much. In her life she fought for what was right and fair, risked for that which mattered, and gave help to those who were in need…..She left this earth a better place for what she had done and who she had been.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 23, 1996 at TUCSON MORTUARY, (Center Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave., from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Service will be held Wednesday, July 24, 1996 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Methodist Church, 1431 W. Magee Road, with Reverand Cynthia Kurt officiating.
