Proud father of 10 children; Mary Colleen (who passed away in 1991) (Frank) Anderson, Patricia (William) Krueger, Phillip (Polly) Carolin, Jr., Thomas (Glenda) Carolin, Jane (John) Wenzlaff, Cathleen Redfern, Mark (Jane) Carolin, Terrence (Laura) Carolin, Maureen (Greg) Mills, Paul (Kelly) Carolin. Adoring grandfather of 44 and great-grandfather of 32–and counting. Big brother to Mary O’Malley and Mike (Peggy) Carlin. Phil was the son of an Irish immigrant family. He retired as a sergeant from the Chicago Police in 1966 after 30 years of service, and moved to Tucson. He continued to work at a variety of jobs, including as an extra at Old Tucson for both “Little House on the Prarie’ and “Father Murphy’, as well as a number of movies. When he was hired as the Manager of the parking garage for the old Pioneer Hotel, he found another job he truly loved and made many friends. He helped save lives during the tragic fire there. Phil was respected and admired by all who knew him, and he proudly served God, Family, and Country. Phil’s family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and staff at El Dorado Hospital for their kindness to him and to us, and especially to his doctor and her staff, for truly understanding the meaning of Family Practice. HAYES, Eugene Burgess, 76, was born in Watseka, IL and passed away July 15, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Jean; sister, Wetona, and brother, Robert; stepchildren, Pamela, Joe, Tom and Paula; and grandchildren, Shane, Stacey, Chad and Trenton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Lee Hayes, brothers, Clayton, Harley, Wayne, Jack and Paul and a sister Betty. He served in WWII in China under Gen. Albert Wedemeyer’s command. He later managed and owned restaurants in Illinois and California. When he came to Tucson he became affiliated with the Salvation Army and he managed two of their stores before his retirement due to ill health. HIGDON, Martha E., 74, of Tucson passed away on July 19, 1996 after struggling with Parkinsons and cancer. She is survived by her very loving husband, Joe; four children, Joe, Mike, Steve and Tim; daughters-in-law, Tina and Charlotte. She also enjoyed the company of 10 grandchildren, Mike, Tom, Chris, Tracey, Curt, David, Joey, Joelle, Emily and Adam. She was born in Cooper, TX. and moved to Tucson in 1945. She is also survived by loving brothers, Russell, Gary, Curtis; and sister, Veda. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinsons Disease Association. Martha was a kind and gentle person who enlightened all who knew her. She as a devoted mother, grandmother and sister, her loving ways gave us strength in our lives. STUART, Clara E., 92, died July 19, 1996. She is survived by her husband, Roy Stuart of Tucson; nieces, Phylis Stamper of Oregon, IL and Bonnie Holtz of Pensacola, FL; nephew, L.L. “Buddy’ Rotramel of Los Angeles, CA; her extended family, Diana and David Rahn, Michael and Matthew Baird, all of Tucson. She was a caring, generous person who always put others first. She will be missed dearly by all whose lives she has touched.
