DIERS, Alta F. “Judy’, died July 4, 1996 in Tucson, AZ. Survived by her husband, Wallace Diers; daughter, Diana (Kent) Knapp; son, Greg Diers; granddaughter, Megan Humphries.
Judy was an art protege of Mrs. Edsel Ford as a child. She attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri. Her paintings were on exhibit in the St. Louis Art Museum. She moved to Tucson in 1956. She belonged to Catalina Juniors and Pueblo Juniors. She was a charter member of the Assistance League.
During that time she received the Assistance League’s Ann Banning Nat. Award. She was very active in doing artistic decorations over many years for the Silver and Turquoise Ball and other local balls, conventions etc. She also did logos for National Jr. Olympics, Tucson Symphony and Heard Museum. She was a member of the Tucson Symphony Women’s Assoc. She was a honorary life member of Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. She was also docent at Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, Docent Supervisor of Animal Nursery, edited Docent Notes and Docent Cookbook. She gave lectures on Katchinas, plants and animals of the southwest to various groups, especially schools. She was active many years in TMC Auxiliary doing annual reports, Patio Post and art work. She did medical illustrations for local doctors. She also did original design work for boutique clothing that were called CJ Creations sold at the Arizona Inn, Doubletree, Kaibab Shops, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Santa Fe and Albuquerque.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 1996 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Burial to follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. Family requests contributions may be made to the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum or the TMC Foundation.
GARLAND, Theresa A. “Teri’, 38. God sent His best angel to take Teri to rest on June 30, 1996. MARTIN, Willis E., 97, of Tucson, died Monday, July 1, 1996. He was formerly Vice President for Research and Development for Guardsman Products, Inc. of Grand Rapids, MI. MCCULLOCH, Charles H., 82, a Tucson native, went to meet our Lord July 3, 1996. Survived by his loving wife, Victoria of 60 years. Mr. McCulloch was retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad and Pima County Highway Department. Member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5133 Fourth Degree Knight. He is also survived by his five children, Richard McCulloch, Carol Callahan, William McCulloch, Fred McCulloch and Sandra Bravo; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. STRASBURG, Virginia Harrison Falvey, died on July 2, 1996 in Walnut Creek, CA. Born September 9, 1907 in Tucson, she was the widow of Arthur T. Strasburg and the mother of Thomas T. (Susie), Paul A. and Virginia Liljefelt (Jim). She is also survived by daughter-in-law, Kate Strasburg; and six grandchildren, Kristyn and Kendra, Greg and Laura, and Alan and Erik Liljefelt. She came from an Arizona pioneer family and graduated from Tucson High School in 1926. She was president of her class in 1924, 1925, and 1926. Until recently she was a lifelong Tucson resident. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 400 E. VANDESTREEK, Lucile, 83, passed away at Ogden Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, July 3, 1996 following a stroke. She was born May 5, 1913 in Springvale, Wisconsin, a daughter of Herman and Anna Hinkamp. Lucile lived the past five months of her life under 24-hour care at the Ogden home of her daughter. She was a previous resident of Tucson, Arizona. Prior to retirement, Lucile and Van, her husband of 54 years, resided in Valley City, North Dakota. Lucile was pre-deceased by her husband in 1994, both parents, and a brother. Lucile is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Olsen of Ogden, Utah; son, Robert (Bonnie) Vandestreek of Tucson, Arizona; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Lucile was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Tucson, Arizona. Memorial Services will be conducted at the Community United Methodist Church, 163 West 4800 South, Ogden, Utah on Monday, July 8, 1996 at 6:00 p.m. Per Lucile’s wishes, cremation was performed under the direction of Lindquist’s Crematory. BORN, Gene Jackson, 73, daughter of William Ellis and Mary (Headley) Jackson, eldest of five. Loving sister of Susan Jackson, Joe Jackson and sister-in-law Jane Jackson; aunt of Jenny Andes and Jeff Jackson; great-aunt of Matthew and Tyler Ander. Born in West Jefferson, Ohio April 20, 1923. Moved to Tucson, Arizona in December, 1945 and to Groom Creek in August of 1993. She was a professional executive secretary and assistant to the President of Old Tucson for 18 years. Gene loved music and it was her constant companion. She was an aircraft pilot obtaining her private pilots license in 1945. She was a devoted family person – her family was her life. In her retirement she was an avid and excellent cook. Gene was a longtime member of St. Phillip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church in Tucson and more recently attended St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Prescott. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church at 1:00 p.m. July 4, 1996, Fr. James Gere and Fr. Jack May officiating.
