CARNEY, Leonard F., II, age 48, of Tucson, died Friday, June 28, 1996 in a Topeka, KS hospital. Mr. Carney was a veteran of the US Army having served in the Vietnam War. He retired as a Warrant Officer after serving 24 years. He was a certified physician’s assistant and was a research assistant at the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. for 10 years. He currently was employed by American Airlines in Tucson, Arizona as a domestic sales supervisor. Mr. Carney was born May 7, 1948 at Tuscumbia, Missouri, the son of Leonard F. and Jane Hickey Carney. He had lived in Topeka a total of 10 years. He was married to Terry Robey in May of 1967 at Salina, KS, they later divorced. A sister, Christy Lynn Pierce predeceased March 27, 1978. Survivors include: one son, Christian L. Shelley-Carney of Hays, KS; one daughter, Betty Jane Carney of Salina, KS; mother, Jane Reese of Gypsum, KS; two brothers, James Michael Carney of McDermott, OH, Jon David Carney of Eldenberg, MD; three sisters, Mineta Jean Scott of York Harbor, ME, Martha Jane Balla of Tucson, AZ, Helen Delene Shelton of Colorado Springs, CO; grandmother, Delene Hunziker of Jefferson City, MO; one grandson, Brenden Carney. Mr. Carney was cremated. Private inurnment will be in the Bennington Cemetery at Bennington, KS. Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home in Topeka was in charge of arrangements.

CONRAD, Hattie Stojak. Born in Nantucket, Mass, passed away July 1, 1996 in Tucson, Arizona, which had been her home since 1957. Widow of Francis Hugh Conrad; beloved mother of Kare Conrad Barney (Branden); sister of Mary Stojak Garnett, Edward Stojak and the late Paul Stojak, Arthur Stojak and Adelaide Stojak Polotnik, all of Nantucket. She recently retired after 38 years of service at Tucson Medical Center. Hattie’s love and laughter will be missed by all who knew her. Memorial Services will be held at the New Testament Baptist Church, 2855 North Craycroft Road, Tucson, AZ on July 3 at 4:30 p.m.

GORMAN, Dr. Anna M., died on July 1, 1996. She was born in Raymond, IL, in 1923, and had lived in Tucson four years. She graduated from high school in Raymond, IL, earned her bachelor’s degree in home economics education from Illinois State Normal University, her Master’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin, and her Doctorate in Education from the University of Illinois. She taught over 40 years: in high schools in IL, as assistant professor of home economics at Indiana State University, Indiana, PA, and the University of Kentucky, as a research and development specialist and professor of Home Economics at Ohio State University, and professor of Home Economics and doctoral candidate advisor at Oklahoma State University at Stillwater, OK, from 1976 until she retired in 1989. She is survived by her sister and husband, Marie and Ed Verbout; and five nieces and nephews and their families: Louise and Philip Verbout of Atascocita, TX, Rhonda and Michael Verbout of Tucson; Mary Verbout of Prescott, Theresaand Jerry Yslas of Prescott, and Rose and Evan Phelps of Fayetteville, NC. Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Father Ron Gagnon at Most Holy Trinity Church, 1300 N. Greasewood, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 1996. Memorials may be directed to Most Holy Trinity or to the Lincolnwood High School Library, Raymond, IL, 62560. Directed by VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 327-6341.

KEELINE, Joe J., 74, died June 30, 1996. Survived by wife, Marianne; son, Joe “Jose’; daughters, Polly Hopkins, Sarah Smith, Susan Roe, Patty Logan and Sally Jo Keeline; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents Joe and Irene Keeline, Sr, step-mother Agnes M. Keeline and brother Harry W. Keeline. Joe was a recipient of two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star serving in WWII. A member of VFW #10342 Huachuca City, AZ and lifetime Gold Card Member of P.R.C.A. Memorial Services will be held 9:00 a.m. Friday, July 5, 1996 at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. MORIARTY, James Patrick, 90, of Tucson, died June 29, 1996. Preceded in death by wife, Bernetta, 1985. Survived by son, Dr. Terrence (Dawn) Moriarty of Tucson; grandchildren, Cori Moriarty, Andrew Moriarty (Sherrill Neifert), Cynthia Fortuno, all of Tucson, Patricia (Rick) Hirsch of Barrington, IL and Terrence (Sandra) Moriarty, Jr. of Chicago, IL; great-grandchildren, Ryan Fortuno and Jason Moriarty; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Moriarty’s love of family was uppermost in his life. Memorial Mass offered Friday, July 5, 1996, 11:00 a.m. St. Joseph’s Church, celebrated by Rev. Frederic Curry. ACLIN, Louis, Maj. Ret. U.S. Army, 87, died June 21, 1996. Preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Virginia E. Aclin. Father of MonikaShockley of Tucson and her fiance Jack Carothers and Marti (Bill) Fathauer of Scottsdale; brother of Ben Aclin of FL; brother-in-law of Tillie Aclin of CA; uncle of James (Thelma) Stabile of NY; grandchildren, Jeremy and Juliann also survive. He was a retired U.S. Army Major and also from Civil Service. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 27 at Ft. Huachuca Post Cemetery with full Military Honors by Ft. Huachuca Honor Guard. CASEY, Billy Joe, Sr., 60 years old, died Saturday, June 29, 1996 in Tucson. Born on September 22, 1935 in Bakerfield, MO. Survived by two sons, Billy J. Casey, Jr. of Concho, AZ, Grover Casey of Tulare, CA; one daughter, Kandy Dickens of TX; mother, Melissa Casey of Tulary, GA; three brothers, Gilbert Casey of CA, Grover (Pete) Casey of CA and Eugene (Russ) Casey of TX; two sisters, Dorothy Moyes of CA and Mona Easley of CO; and eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of many friends. Clarence is a member of Manor Baptist Church and is survived by wife, Theresa; son, Stephen (Carolee) Toland; and daughter, Cathy (George) Sloane; three grandchildren, Amy, Samantha and Thomas; and five brothers and sisters. CAMPBELL, Murel F., was born in Spencer, IN, February 13, 1905 and passed away June 27, 1996 in Tucson, AZ. She served in WWII as a First Lt. with the US Army Nurses Corp. Outside of nursing her greatest interest was raising race horses. In years past she had race horses in southern California and the Rillito Race Track in Tucson. She was a member of VFW Post 10188, Tucson. She is survived by a sister, Viola Mae DeLapp of Indianapolis, IN; and a brother, Earl Campbell of Chicago, IL; 28 nephews and nieces. Burial will be in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Phoenix, AZ. Arrangements by ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3435 N. 1st Ave., (888-1111).
