ROBLES, Arturo L., 78, died June 17, 1996. Survived by wife of 49 years, Maria Jesus Robles; son, Arturo X. Robles; daughters, Gloria Dalton and Aida Robles, all of Tucson; grandchildren, Marcus Ruiz of Phoenix, Matthew, Michael and Daniel Robles, all of Tucson; brother, Alfredo Robles of Nogales; sister, Margaret Barron of Nogales; mother-in-law, Teresa Rodriguez of Tucson; daughter-in-law, Mimi Robles of Tucson; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 19 at BRING’S MEMORIAL CHAPEL. Mass will be offered 9:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20 at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave. Burial in Holy Hope Cemetery. Mr. Robles fought in WWII in the South Pacific as a Bushmaster of the Army 158th Infantry. He was honorably discharged with two Purple Hearts in 1945. St. Augustine Cathedral member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Society and Cursillista Movement. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Arturo L. ROGERSON, Richard L., entered into eternal life June 15, 1996. Born April 19, 1946 in Ogden, UT to Earl L. and Priscilla J. Rogerson. Richard worked for Carnes Construction Co. for 18 years. He was a project manager and in 1995 he was awarded the Outstanding Superintendent Construction Excellence Award by the American Sub-Contractors Assoc. He was a devoted grandfather, father and husband and an avid golfer and bowler. He is survived by his wife, Marian; his sons, Richard (Katrina), Bradford and Gregory; his brothers, Terrance (Vileen) and Charles (Verlene); and his grandchildren, Natasha and Joshua. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 19 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. Funeral Service 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 20 at Christ Presbyterian Church, 6565 E. Broadway, with Rev. Joy Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Richards name to the Christ Presbyterian Church Building Fund. ROSS, Elmer W. (Red), 74, of Tucson, died June 14, 1996. He was born September 1, 1921 in Newark, NJ. After serving with the 3rd Marine Corps Division in WWII he settled in Tucson in 1945. Red worked at Blanton and Cole, Pima County Planning Dept. and Kitt Peak Observatory until he retired in 1987. He also owned Pueblo Drafting Service in partnership with Don Bufkin. He enjoyed many pastimes including baseball and big band music. Although his heart grew weak his spirit and sense humor remain strong. He will be missed by his wife, Margaretha and his daughter Sylvia (Jim), and granddaughters, Kelly and Carla Morfesy of Phoenix; and by his first wife Edna, and their children, Ronald, daughter-in-law, Linda and grandson Blaine Ross of Denver, CO. His son Roger, daughter-in-law Doris and granddaughter Janet Ross of Ogden, UT. His daughter Virginia, son-in-law Ralph and grandchildren, Ryan, Rebecca and Kaitlin Raub of Tucson. A service will be held for friends and family on Wednesday, June 19 at 3:00 p.m. at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made the American Heart Association.

ROSS, Nellie N., 72, died June 16, 1996. Survived by her husband, Trefry A. Ross of Tucson; children, Jared L. Ross of NC, Scott W. Ross of WA, Rebecca A. Cileo of CA and Corene L. Morgan of CA; mother, Naomi N. Huffstetter of CA; brothers, Dale V. and Bob L. Huffstetter, both of CA. No services are planned. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

SHAW, Zell (Brittain), peacefully passed away at home, June 12, 1996, at age 83. Zell was the sixth of 12 children born to Arizona/New Mexico early homesteaders Lavonia (Evans) and William Hamilton Brittain. She is survived by two bothers, J.W. (Betty) Brittain of OK and J.A. (Emma) Brittain of Douglas, AZ and three sisters, Hazel Lee Smith of Phoenix, AZ, Bertha Ida (Raymond) Cheely of Sahuarita, AZ and Charlotte Sunshine (James) Knox of OR, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two daughters, Norma (David) Fisher and Bobbie Noble; seven grandchildren, Pamela (Enrique) Villa, Tricia Potter, Rex (Kim) Kelsey; Brett Noble, Jimmy (Kelly) Noble, Shawn (Barb) Noble and Gregg Noble; great grandchildren, Brandon Villa, Kelsey Potter, Corey and Josh Noble, and Kristen Noble. Also survived by caregiver Debra Langley, Troy Potter and Nikki and Bucky MacGowan. She is pre-deceased by son Frank Earl Moore, and great grandson, Jared Noble. The family gratefully acknowledges the warm and caring assistance of Community Hospice, whose help and support made it possible for her to spend her last days at her beloved home with family and little dog “Penny’. According to her wishes, she was laid to rest in South Lawn Cemetery, following a short graveside service on Saturday, June 15, 1996. Donations may be made to Community Hospice, 4330 N. Campbell Ave. #256, Tucson, AZ 85718.

WURSTNER, Robert George, 65, died June 16, 1996. Husband of Arline Wurstner of Tucson; stepfather of Alan MacIntosh of Las Vegas, NM; brother of Karl Wurstner of Sacramento, CA and Thomas Wurstner of San Francisco, CA. Memorial Mass 9:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22 at Santa Catalina Catholic Church, 14380 N. Oracle Rd., with Father Robert R. Thomas officiating. BATKA, Lucie C., 92, of Tucson, died June 15, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Matt Batka and five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her sister, Fannie Walker of Tucson. Lucie was a member of the Board of Realtors of Tucson and Grace St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Friends may call on Wednesday, June 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2545 N. DONAWAY, Charles O., 74, died June 14, 1996 in Tucson. Survived by wife; Patricia Donaway; 2 daughters, Marlayne (J.D.) Burton, Patricia (Rick) Buckner; six grandchildren, Thomas, Stephanie, Jay Michael, Hallie, Sarah, Rachael. Preceded in death by three sons, Charles, Jay, Mike. Mr. Donaway was in World War II and received 2 Purple Hearts, and a Gold Cluster. A gathering will be on Tuesday, June 18, 1996 at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL 5225 E Speedway from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

DOWNES, Jacob Amos, 78, of Tucson, died Saturday, June 15, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Izola; children, Tronnie Downes, Trenda Hull; step-children, Hubert Johnson, Ruth Ann Revis, Larry Johnson; brothers, Virgil, Leroy, James, George, and Gerald Downes; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Mr. Downes was a member of Amphi Bible Church and American Legion Post #73. Funeral Services and Burial will be in Ramsey, IL. Memorial donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 639 E. HATCH, Harriman M., 75, died June 15, 1996. Husband of Patricia Hatch of Tucson; father of Patrick Hatch of Tucson. Mr. Hatch was an Arizona native and was employed by US West for 42 years and retired July 22, 1983. He belonged to the Telephone Pioneers Assoc., a life-time member of the Elks B.P.O. #2532 Tucson East and a member of the Tucson Retired Officers Assoc. He was a Lt. in the Naval Reserves and a Navy Veteran of WWII. No services planned. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

MARISCAL, Arnold A., 57, of Tucson, passed away June 15, 1996. Survived by sisters, Frances A. Herr, Patricia N. Mariscal; brothers, Oscar J. Mariscal, Frank C. Mariscal Jr., Henry J. Mariscal. THOMAS, Ruth W., 95, of Tucson, died June 15, 1996. Born in Emmaus, PA on December 2, 1900. Mother of Joan Dixon of Tucson and Dr. Irving O. Thomas of Wilmington, DE; three grandchildren, Lee Ann Reid of Atlanta, GA, Brett I. Thomas of Boulder, CO and Nancy Wallace of Tucson; three great-grandchildren, Jenna Lee, Jessica Ann, Calum Charles. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 18, 1996 at 11:00 a.m. at ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL with Rev. Roy Guinn officiating. Burial to follow in Holy Hope Cemetery. ARCE, Rita Bedoya, died June 12, 1996, born July 16, 1903 in Ray Territory of Arizona to Joaquin and Librada (Alcantar Zamora) Bedoya, one of seven sisters and four brothers. Her grandparents Elijio and Joaquina Bedoya farmed an area near the San Xavier Mission in the mid 1800's. Rita is predeceased by her husband, Bert T. Arce, also an Arizona native born in Arivaca in 1900; son, Hector; grandchildren, Diana (Lopez) Snyder and Douglas Edmund Arce. Survivors include daughter, Lily (Alfred) Lopez of Tucson; sons, Ray (Olga) of Oakland, CA, Gilbert, George (Roberta), Humbert (Louise) and Edmund of Alameda, CA and sister, Alice Solis of Fresno, CA; also survived by 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces, and for devoted care giver, Nancy Hilburn Muchisimas Gracias. St. Ambrose Church at 300 S. Tucson Blvd. will be the site of Visitation to be held June 16, 1996 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered June 17, 1996 at 10:00 a.m. Burial Services will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers are Alfred Lopez, Eric Lopez, John Arce, George Arce, Sean Arce, and Rudy Navarette. Honorary Pallbearers are George Robles and Joe Valenzuela.

KABOKOFF, Dr. Alfred B., 74, died at Hospice Family Care in Tucson June 9, 1996. He is survived by his daughter, Karen J. Kabakoff of Tucson; sons, Robert H. Kabakoff of Scottsdale, AZ, and David C. Kabakoff of Atlanta, GA; grandson, John David Kabakoff of Atlanta; and sister, Gertrude Cohen of Washington, DC.
Dr. Kabakoff graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1950. After practicing dentistry in Memphis, TN, for many years, he moved to Tucson with his family in 1976 and continued to practice dentistry. During World War II, Dr. Kabakoff was a lieutenant in the U.S. 8th Air Force. Serving in the European Campaign, he flew 35 raids as a navigator and received the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Dr. Kabakoff was a member of the Southern Arizona Dental Society, the Arizona State Dental Society, the American Dental Association, and the Kiwanis Club of the Desert. He was an avid golfer.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 17, 1996, at Christ the King Episcopal Church, 2800 W. Ina. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society-Arizona Division, 1636 N. Swan, Tucson, AZ 85712
