Survived by wife, Regina of Tucson; mother, Margaret Hammond of College Place, WA; sons, James (Jennifer) Hammond of Colorado Springs, CO, Steven (June) Hammond of Fredericksburg, VA; daughters, Lori (Scott) Swartsfager of Minot, ND, Kim (Deane) Graves of Bolivar, MO; stepchildren, Erika Jarem of Arlington, Va, Lynette Jarem of Austin, TX, Marilina Cabrera and Daniel Cabrera, both of Tucson; sister, Beverly Hale of Kennewick, WA; and 12 grandchildren. Preceded in death by father, Karl Howard Hammond. Services Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 7801 E. Kenyon, with Pastor John Aker officiating. Private interment Desert Vista Cemetery. LADO, Stephen R., 53 years old, entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 4, 1996 in St. Joseph’s Hospital. Born in Ohio, Mr. Lado has resided in Tucson since 1979. Loving husband and best friend of Barbara Lado of Tucson. Devoted father of Kimberlee Lado and Josh Lado both at home. Dear son of Stephen F. Lado and the late Stella Lado. Dear brother of Maryann (John) Barno of Tucson. Also surviving are nephews John Barno IV of Chandler and Joseph Barno of Flagstaff. Mr. Lado proudly served as Scout Master of Boy Scout troop 129 of Tucson. Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, October 9, 1996 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco. Visitation on Tuesday, October 8 from 5:00 until the Rosary is recited at 7:00 p.m. at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. PINNELL, Richard (Dick) Leonard, Sr., Born in Kansas, IL September 3, 1930 and entered into rest October 5, 1996 in Tucson, AZ. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty of Tucson; four children, Vicki (John) McCoy of Tucson, Ricki (Roy) Ray of Phoenix, Richard (Debbie) Pinnell Jr. of Tucson, and Patricia Pinnell of Tucson; one ”adopted” son, Jeffrey McCarthy of Tucson; three grandchildren, John (Brenda) McCoy Jr. of Tucson, Jeffrey and Shaundra Pinnell of Kansas; two great grandsons of Tucson; one sister and two brothers also of Tucson. A resident of Tucson since 1948, ”Dick”, was a retired businessman who had been a long time member of the automotive community in Tucson. Dick was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and supported numerous charities throughout his lifetime. He was a father figure to many and had the reputation of ”never meeting a stranger”. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, October 8, 1996 at 7 o’clock in the evening at Moose Lodge No. 1964 at 925 E. Bilby Rd. (Park and Bilby) in Tucson, AZ. RUIZ, Rosa, of Tucson, passed away October 5, 1996. Preceded in death by her brother, Rafael Vidal. WILSON, Valari Anne, age 16, of Tucson, died October 5, 1996. She was preceded in death by her mother Elizabeth Ann Wilson. She is survived by father Roy (Bettye Walthall) Wilson; brothers Marcus and Russell (Janelle) Wilson; grandparents Marvin and Wanda Binkley and Marcus and Madelon Wilson; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Valari was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 6th Ward. She attended Tucson Oro Seminary and had attained the Young Womens in Excellence Award. RAYA, Ursula (nee Hartmann), went to be home with her Lord, October 5, 1996 after years of suffering. Ursula was born in Germany April 27, 1938 and came to the U.S. in 1958. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Miguel Raya. She is survived by her son, Michael Raya; daughter, Faye (Joseph) Norman; mother and stepfather, Elfriede and Daniel Nonnemaker. VANERKA, Joseph A., 84, of Tucson, born October 18, 1911 in Chicago, IL, died October 5, 1996 in Tucson. Graduated from the University of Illinois in 1933 and moved to Tucson in December 1944. Began his career as a custom homebuilder in 1946 and retired in 1972. He is survived by daughter, Lynne Jackson of Tucson; grandsons, Matthew (Kathleen) Clements of Los Angeles, CA and Michael Clements of Manhattan Beach, CA; and sister Helen Fayette of Tucson. Preceded in death by wife, Alice and brother, Charles. YACKMAN, John, age 78, died October 6, 1996, retired Major, United States Air Force. BURLINI, Alfred H., 63, of Tucson, died October 3, 1996. KING, Byron L., 72, died October 2, 1996. Husband of June King; father of John (Susan) King; son of Bernice Ziman, all of Tucson; grandfather of David and Kayti; great-grandfather of Halley; brother of Patti Harvey of CA; and uncle of many nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law also survive. He was in the 99th Motor Battalion WWII veteran. He was also one of the founders of Bonsi Club in Cottonwood, also a member of the Organic Club in Cottonwood. He sponsored soccer clubs here in Tucson for many years, a Boy Scout leader and a member of Mountain View Methodist Church in Cottonwood. Mr. King owned the King Cash Register Co. for 15 years. TOOMBS, Gerald J., 58, of Tucson, passed away September 30, 1996. He is survived by his mother, Mona Toombs of Tucson; sister, Teena Cross of San Diego, CA; niece; Veronica Cross of San Diego, CA; nephew, Bernard Leigh Thomas U.S. Army; grandniece and grandnephew. YOUNG, Vera G., born January 18, 1926 in Cape Elsie, North Carolina, died October 3, 1996 in Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther H. Young. Mrs. Young was a resident of Tucson, Arizona. Survived by three daughters, Joyce Poythress of Atlanta, GA, Anne Graf, of Tucson, Ariz, and Lynn Scofield of Spring, TX; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. BLACKWELL, Louis Franklin, died October 1, 1996. Louis F. Blackwell was born in Greene County Missouri September 11, 1910. He has been a Tucson resident since 1992. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Redfearn Blackwell; one daughter, Jean Ann Blackwell-Miller; her husband, Dean J. Miller; two grandchildren, Julianne Blackwell and Joel Mahan, all of Tucson; and one sister, Mary Francis Stockstill (Mrs. Ralph), of Springfield, MO. Services and burial will be in Springfield, MO. BOURASSA, Wilfred A., of Catalina, died September 29, 1996. He was a painter at Copper Mining. He is survived by his wife, Edith; children, Judy Holben, Stephan Bourassa, Karen Radcliffe, Cheryl Belcher; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, William A. Bourassa; sister, Rita Dalrymple. Mr. Bourassa was the fire chief of the Flowing Wells Volunteer Fire Department from 1964 to 1974, and WWII Veteran in the U.S. Army serving in both the European and Pacific Theaters. BURR, Sherwood P. M.D., died October 2, 1996. A webfoot from Oregon. He attended the University of Oregon and Oregon Medical School. He served in the Army Air Force from 1941 to 1946 as an M.D. and was with a bomb group on Guam. He took his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Iowa. He came to Tucson in 1949. He was the president of the Southwest Ophthalmology Association, belonged to the Tucson Rotary Club since 1955, organized the doctors band that played for Tucson Medical Center Hospital shows, and volunteered his time at the Veteran's Hospital. Survived by his wife, Mary Anne; daughter, Minda Burr; sons, Sherwood Zachary and Bradley Brien; granddaughters, Megan and Maryanne; and grandson, Sherwood Lloyd. In celebration of Sherwood’s life there will be an open house for dear friends Saturday, October 5 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the family home.Memorial donations to your favorite charity.
