VANOVER, Bessie, 76, of Tucson, passed away October 2, 1996. She is survived by husband, Guy C. Vanover; daughters, Kaye and her husband Andrew Miller, Linda Sergent; four grandchildren, Mary, Kenny, Tammy and Trina; five great-grandchildren; Jennifer, Amber, Joel, Caleb and Roger; sisters, Verla Powers and Nola Horne;brother, Charles Mullins Jr. She was amember of Rebecca Lodge in Clintwood, VA. Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m.Friday, October 2, 1996 at Hudgel’s SWAN FUNERAL HOME, 22nd and Swan, with Rev. Steve Hanna officiating. Private Interment. Arrangements by Hudgel’s SWAN FUNERAL HOME, 22nd and Swan.

AGUILAR, Alejandro B., 81, of Tucson, passed away September 29, 1996. Survived by wife of 55 years, Dolores Aguilar; mother, Jesus Aguilar; sons, Roy (Norma), Ruben (Christina), Henry (Mary Helen) Aguilar; sisters, Carmen Navarro, Helen Trevino; brothers, Frank, Albert, Jesus Aguilar; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Aguilar worked at Pacific Fruit for 43 years. He volunteered his services with St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was an usher at Santa Cruz Parish for many years and a member of the Latin American Social Club where he was also known as ”Pichelito”. He was a participant of the Centinelas from St. Benedictine Convent. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 1996 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Santa Cruz Church, 1220 S. 6th Ave, with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Thursday, October 3, 1996 at 9:00 a.m. at Santa Cruz Church. Interment to follow at South Lawm Cemetery. Arrangements by TUCSON MORTUARY, INC.

AYERS, Hilda H. (Braker), 63, died at 4:55 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 1996 at Forest Park Healthcare Center in Kokomo, IN. She was born November 7, 1932 in Pennsylvania to Sylvester and Alice Edith (Boatman) Moon Sr. She had worked as a nurse’s aide at Handmaker Nursing Home before moving to New York. Preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Alice Moon Sr., and three brothers, Jackie Moon, Robert Moon, and Eugene Moon. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Dodge of Kokomo, IN and Erna Acton of Elmira, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth E. Heim of Tucson; two brothers, Sylvester (Anita) Moon Jr. and Thomas (Sally) Moon of Proctor, PA; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside Services will be held at Hillsgrove Cemetery on October 4, 1996 in Hillsgrove, PA. There will be no local visitation or service.

GARDNER, George F. (USAF M/Sgt. Ret.) 59, of Tucson, died September 28, 1996. He was a retired Air Advisor for the Air National Guard. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie J. Gardner of Tucson; sons, Fred Gardner of Tucson, Don Gardner of Phoenix and Mike Gardner of Reno, NV; daughter, Susan Shuck of Stevensville, MD; sisters, Shirley Votik of GA, Emma Jean Morrison of PA and Martha Jeffries of WA; brothers, William Gardner, David Gardner, Howard Gardner and Robert Gardner, all of PA; and nine grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday 3:00 p.m. Davis Monthan Air Force Base Chapel. Interment Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY and CEMETERY, N. GOROSAVE, Lionel C., 81, of Tucson, passed away September 28, 1996. Survived by son, Art (Julie) Gorosave; sister, Ophilia Ellis brother, Daniel Gorosave; grandchildren, Lorin Gorosave, Arlissa, John and Grant. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 1996 at TUCSON MORTUARY, (Center Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave., 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. with a Graveside Service at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Hope Cemetery.

GRAHAM, Rosemarie L., 68, of Tucson, died Friday, September 27, 1996. She is survived by her aunts, Helen E. Howell of Tucson, Irma Smith, Cherrye L. Sharpe, both of MI; cousin, Maxine Taylor of Tucson; and a host of cousins. A Visitation will be held on Friday, October 4, 1996 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Funeral Services will be held at Angelus Funeral Home in Los Angeles, CA on Monday, October 7, 1996. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, CA.

JONES, Vera K., 94, died September 28, 1996. Preceded in death by cherished husband, M.C. Survived by daughters, Sister Michalene of Tucson and Marilyn Wright; son-in-law, John Wright; grandchildren, Mark, Eric, and Erin; great-granddaughter, Shannon, all of Oregon. MARTINEZ, Salvador B., 65, of Tucson, passed away September 29, 1996. Survived by daughter, Mary Martinez; sons, George Guerra and Sal Martinez; brother, Juan Bernal Martinez; grandchildren, David A. MERRELL, DEAN, 53, died September 28, 1996 in Casa Grande. Born November 14, 1942 in Safford, Arizona. Dean was a resident of Casa Grande, Arizona for 26 years. He was a teacher. Dean is survived by wife, Connie Merrell of Casa Grande; two sons, Bryan Merrell of Casa Grande and Chad Merrell of Casa Grande; five daughters, Shannon Morley of Payson, AZ, Brett Doughty of Maricopa, AZ, Sherri Layton of Thatcher, AZ, Amie Merrell of Casa Grande, Crystal Merrell of Casa Grande; two sisters, Judy Lunt of Thatcher, AZ and Oan Bull of Willcox, AZ; one brother, Dale Merrell of Globe, AZ; parents, Meriner and Flora Merrell of Safford, AZ; four grandchildren. Visitation at L.D.S. 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 1996. Funeral Services at L.D.S. Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. October 2, 1996, with Bishop Grant Walton officiating. Final Disposition at MT. POWERS, Michael Raymond, 25, of Tucson, hosted the last sports broadcast of his budding career before dying in an automobile accident, September 28, 1996, in Jackson, MS. Born in Neenah, WI on June 30, 1971 to Albert J. Powers and Jeannine Powers Howell. Mike was to graduate in December from Mississippi College with a Radio/TV Communications degree. Loved and survived by his parents, relatives, friends, and sisters. Mike left pursuing his lifelong dream of sports broadcasting. His memory will be especially cherished by his soulmate, friend, and sister, Kathleen Powers; sisters, Jenny Powers Watt, and Maureen Powers, all of Tucson. Sisters, Colleen Powers Bodemuller of Seattle, WA and Christi Powers-Zielinski of Neenah, WI will never forget the tall, cherubic, blonde-haired, blue-eyed brother who taught us to be gentle with each other. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at his mother’s home, 439 E. 1st St., Tucson, on Wednesday, October 2, 1996 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please send donations in memorium to the Mike Powers Scholarship Fund, c/o Mississippi College, Center of Institutional Advancement, P.O. ROCK, Edward Brady, 65, passed away Saturday, September 28, 1996. He was a graduate of Columbia College, N.Y., and a Federally Certified Court Interpreter with U.S. District Court in Tucson for the last 12 years. Edward is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dalia Herrero; three children, Edward, Damian of Charlotte, N.C., and Dalia; a brother, Whitney of Carmel, N.Y., and many loving relatives, friends, and colleagues. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 300 S. Tucson Blvd. Interment will follow at All Faiths Memorial Park, Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery, 2151 S. Avenida Los Reyes. SAYPANYA, Damdy, 63, of Tucson, died September 29, 1996. Survived by three children and two grandchildren. SCHEETZ, Alfred, beloved father of Nancy Scheetz, died September 22, 1996 in Tucson, Arizona. Survived by his daughter; brother, Raymond Scheetz of New York City; sister, Edna Hackan of Philadelphia, PA and niece, Joan Wuorinen of Virginia Beach, VA. Born March 17, 1918 in Philadelphia, PA he fell in love with the West while stationed at Gore Field in Great Falls, Montana. During World War II, as a member of the U. S. Army Air Corps 7th Ferrying Group, he flew the Burmese Hump, delivering supplies between India and China. He also served during the Korean Conflict. He relocated to Northern California where he retired from Diamond International Corporation in 1980. Subsequently he was employed by Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, CA. A man of exquisite taste, his loyalty and loving support will be missed. Services will be held out-of-state. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY.

SCHWAB, Peter Muhlenberg, 57, died on August 19, 1996 of a heart attack. Peter was born in 1939 in Northhampton, MA. He attended Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village, CT. From 1956 to 1968 he worked with Moral Re-Armament, and from 1968 to 1972 he was a member of Up With People. In 1972 he began a long and successful career as a software analyst. He was a a resident of Tucson for 26 years. Peter is survived by his wife, Ann; three sons, Jonathan, Daniel and Matthew; a daughter, Christine of Chicago, IL (daughter of Janice Harbaugh of Chicago); and by his mother, a brother, four sisters and many loving friends and relatives. A Memorial Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 9071 E. Old Spanish Trail.

TALBERT, Dorothy Garnet, 89, resident of Scottsdale, AZ, died September 28, 1996. Born in Orono, Minnesota. She moved toArizona in 1947 from Minnesota. Dorothy was employed by the Tucson Unified School District as a Professor and a teacher, a doctor of education for 20 years, she retired in 1974. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Survived by nieces, near and dear to her, Elizabeth Moll and Jill Walker; two brothers, Don Talbert and Walt Talbert; two sisters, Gloria Talbert and ViDanek. Graveside Services 1:00 p.m.Tuesday at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6290 W. Northern Ave., Glendale, AZ. Arrangements by Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 North 59th Avenue, Glendale, Arizona 937-9297.

WALDEN, Gladys Lucille, 78, of Tucson, died September 26, 1996. Private burial will be in Green Valley Memorial Gardens, Green Valley, Arizona. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY.

ARMIJO, Catalina A., 65 of Amado/Green Valley for 11 years, died September 27, 1996. Formerly of Tucson for 33 years. Pre-deceased by husband, Robert A. Armijo. Survived by children, Rosemarie A. Figueroa (Jesus) of Amado/Green Valley and Robert J. Armijo (Gloria) of Tucson; sisters, Anita Borboa of Caborca, Justina Atondo of Hermosillo, Jose Luis Arvizu of Tucson and Miguel Angel Arvizu of Magdalena; three grandchildren, Gabriel, Imelda, Christina Figueroa. Also survived by in-laws, Uly and Beatrice Armijo, Lela Armijo, Lucinda and Howard Sullivan, Charles and Billy Armijo and Charles Davenport.

La Canada Dr. Service Tuesday, October 1, 1996 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 505 N. La Canada Dr. Interment at Holy Hope Catholic Cemetery, Tucson, AZ.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Green Valley Mortuary and Memorial Gardens.

BAILEY, Mary Ruth, 53 of Tucson, died Friday, September 27, 1996. She is survived by her husband, Guy; son, Steven, both of Tucson; sister, Sheila Crombie of Minneapolis, MN. Memorial Services will be scheduled at a later date, and probably take place in late November. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.
