Survived by wife, Delia Herran; daughter, Marcella (Charles) Payne; sons, Miguel (Mary Alice) Herran Jr. and Richard Herran; sisters, Carmen Saucedo and Delfina Ramirez. Also survived by five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; and by lots of family and friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 1996 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Johns the Evangelist Church, 602 W. Ajo Way. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. LEON, Marie M., born in 1910 in Sanford, Maine, died September 11, 1996 in Phoenix. Survivors include her son, Charles R.(Elizabeth) Leon; three grandchildren, Charles, Richard and Michael; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. Mrs. Leon was a retired Housekeeping Supervisor at Tucson Medical Center. A Rosary will be said at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), Wednesday, September 18, 1996 at 1:30 p.m. with entombment to follow at Holy Hope Mausoleum. MAYNARD, Samuel E, 77, of Tucson, died September 14, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn E. Farlow Maynard of Tucson; son, Reverend James E. Maynard of Phoenix; daughter, Patricia A McKee of Pineville, LO; brother, William H. Maynard of Tucson; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Mr. Maynard was a former professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Arizona, retired after 29 years with Garrett-Allied Signal Corp, and a retired Army Major serving in WWII. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday 11:00 a.m. BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, with Reverend David Houchin and Reverend James E. Maynard officiating. Visitation will be Monday, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 W. ROBINSON, Don L., 79, of Tucson, died Saturday, September 15, 1996. He is survived by sons, Stephen (Joyce) and Jeffery. Don served with the U.S. Navy during WWII as a second class machinist mate on the ship Philadelphia, a flight cruiser. He was employed for 18 years with the City of Tucson Department of Operations Fleet Service. Don was an active member of Fountain of Life Lutheran Church on Kolb Rd. SLATE, Virginia Ruth, died in Denver, CO on Friday, September 13, 1996. She was born Virginia Ruth Harlee on November 5, 1915 in Thorndale, TX. In 1935 she married Leo B. Deely. After his death she married Ben R. Slate, who also preceded her in death. Virginia lived in Tucson for many years. Survivors include son, Leo B. Deely of Tucson; daughter, Patricia R. Nelson of Morrison, CO; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. SWEET, Melva Ashthore, 84, of Tucson, died Saturday, September 14, 1996. She is survived by sister, Liliace Leistikow of CO; nephew, Lewis “Charlie” (Lynn) Leistikow of FL; niece, Sheralyn Parker of CO. ADAMS, George W., 85, of Tucson, passed away on September 9, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Alveda; son, Alfred (wife Lynda); grandchildren, Mark and Kerry; and sister, Winifred Flora. George and Alveda resided in Tucson’s Villa Serenas Apartments and attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. CONFAIR, James H., 70, of Tucson, died Thursday, September 12, 1996. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn Louise Confair. He is survived by his wife, Wynona; daughters, Debra Ann Brugger, Darlene Jo Stevens; grandchildren, Kimberly Brugger, Wynona Bixler, James Stevens; brothers, Raymond Confair, Harold Confair; and sisters, Myrtle Nyman, Isabel Rauch; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Mr. Confair was a member of New Life Wesleyan Christian Center and was retired from Tucson Unified District. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 1996 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. FOSTER, Harold G., 49, of Tucson, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, September 11, 1996, after a long and courageous battle with a brain tumor. He was born September 13, 1946 in Hannibal, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Foster. He leaves behind his loving wife of 10 years, Pam Foster; stepdaughter, Jennifer Steger; grandson, Fuller Burden, all of Tucson; father, Harold E. Foster of Bowling Green, MO; brother, Michael S. (Pat) Foster of Tucson; nieces, Lindsey and Melissa Foster, Megan and Nichole Stamper, Taryn, Elise and Caitlyn Hull; nephew, Matthew Foster; and many relatives and friends.Harold was a longtime Tucson resident and taught Industrial Arts for many years in the Tucson area. He was a handball enthusiast and an avid outdoor sportsman. Those he leaves behind will miss his sense of humor and generous nature. We love and miss you Harold, but know that you are in a far better place and we look forward to that One Sweet Day when we are all reunited in Heaven. FUNK, Marjorie Roberta, 83, died September 8, 1996 in Tucson, Arizona after a long illness. She moved here with her family in 1944 from Ohio. She was employed by Phelps Dodge and Sears Roebuck and Co. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by husband of 65 years, Myron E. Funk; son, Fred M. Funk; and her grandchildren, Rick Funk of Dallas, TX, Cheryl Arthur of Bradford, PA, Jonathan Funk of Little Rock, AR an Christopher Funk of Dallas, TX; and her five great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 15, 1996 at 3:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 215 E. 5th St., Tucson, AZ. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

RUSSELL, Mary Louise, passed away September 13, 1996 after a long battle with a severe illness. She is survived by her loving husband, Louis of 59 years; devoted son, Robert and wife Roberta of Tucson; cherished brother, Frederick Brewen and wife Barbara of Redondo Beach, CA; numerous nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends, and all who will miss her lovable disposition and devotion. She is preceded in death by son, Louis “Duke” Russell. Visitation will be 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 15, 1996 at BRINGS BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. CHAVEZ, Francisca Padilla, 98, went to be with the Lord on September 11, 1996. Born in Tucson, AZ, October 10, 1897. Preceded in death by husband Jose Chavez, daughters Otillia Chavez and Clotilde Moreno, sons, Randolfo and Enrique Chavez, granddaughters, Tillie Stafford and Josephine Smith, parents Adolfo and Carmen Padilla, sisters Maria Noriega, Manuela Padilla, Dolores Mendoza, Carmelita Padilla, Maria Jesus Guerra and Ofelia Guerena. Surviving are her children, Jose (Delmi) Chavez of Bisbee, Jessie (Santos) Haro of Tucson and Alfred (Pat) Chavez of CA; daughter-in-law, Socorro (Enrique) Chavez of Tucson. She leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren. There will be a Memorial Mass held in Celebration of her Life 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14 at St. John’s Catholic Church, 602 W. Ajo Way. Arrangements by BRING’S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 S. Scott.

COLE, John Robert “Robby”, died August, 1996. He was born August 26, 1957 in Aruba, The Netherlands Antilles. A Tucson resident since 1961. Preceded in death by father, Theodore D. Cole. Survived by mother, Dana Vincil of Tucson and Flagstaff; sisters, Teresa Lynn of Ridgecrest, CA, Marcia Lee of Tucson and Martha Jean of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Dana V. Cole of Flagstaff. YOUNG, Elizabeth (nee Jones), beloved wife of Robert L. Young, Jr., went to her Eternal home on September 3, 1996 at the age of 86. She was formerly from Kirkwood, MO. She would have celebrated her 59th wedding anniversary. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and her brother. She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter, Nancy, Mrs. Doran Puckett of Park Ridge, IL; son, Eric Young, Sr. of Carrollton, OH; brother, J.T. Jones of Columbia, MO; sister-in-law, Kathryn Young of Tucson and Mrs. Francis K. Young of Denver, CO. Also survived by seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 8100 E. Broadway, where a Memorial Service will be held on September 16, 1996 at 2:00 p.m., Reverend Wm. Denlinger will officiate.
