OREN, Harvey Owen, 68, a 34 year resident of Tucson, passed away September 1, 1996. Born August 25, 1928 in Brainerd, Minnesota. Mr. Oren retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years as a Master Sergeant. A member of the American Legion Post #3 and V.F.W. Post 549. He worked as a Police and Fire dispatcher for the City of Tucson. Survived by his wife, Darlene Marie Oren; sons, Michael and Richard Oren; sister, Mary (Virgil) Schalz of Minnesota; many nieces and nephews. VANCE, Geraldine Freda, widow of Rev. George C. Vance, minister of the First Congregational Church from 1950-1959 and Casas Adobes Community Congregational Church from 1959-1972, died Monday, September 2, 1996 at the age of 88. Geri Vance was born in 1907 in Almena, KS. She received a Life Certificate in Primary Teaching from Kansas State Teachers College in 1930. She taught for two years in Smith Center, KS and then became a full time minister's wife. She was an active member of Chapter AW of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and was active in every part of her husband's and family work. Geri was full of life and love and humor and will be missed by a great many. She is survived by two sons, Gary Dean Vance and Arthur David (Ski) Vance, both of Montana; and daughter, Charlotte Louise (Barton) Marshall of Tucson; sister, Mildred Price of Fort Dodge, Iowa; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. WALTENBURG, Helen E., 87, a resident of Tucson, died September 3, 1996. WELCH, Thomas, 52, of Tucson, died September 3, 1996. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Sherrie Schuldheis Welch; two daughters, Emilie and Maggie; his mother, Rhea Welch; sisters, Marilyn McConnel and Claudia Colton, many nephews and one niece; uncles, aunts and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Welch. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, a graduate of Hillsdale College and a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He obtained a law degree from the University of Arizona in 1972. Admitted to the State Bar of Arizona in 1972; State Bar of California in 1991 and the State Bar of Washington in 1994. Most recently employed by the Law Firm of Haralson, Kinerk and Morey of Tucson, AZ. Tom was an avid sailor and pursued his love of sailing at every opportunity. He shared his enthusiasm for sailing with his wife and children and this is a parting gift that they will always cherish. A Memorial Service will be held on September 7, 1996 at 5:00 p.m., in the Performance Garden of Tohono Chul Park, 7366 N. Paseo Del Norte, Tucson. YOUNG, John J., 83, died August 28, 1996. Survived by his wife, Louise L. Young; sons, Michael C. (Lori) Young of Tucson and J. Gerald (Diana) Young of New York, NY; step-children, Tony, Rusty, Susie and Randy Spicer; grandchildren, Jerry, Pat, Kevin, Lisa, Michael Jr., Jessica, Nicole, Sabina and Lara Young; and a great-grandson, Jonathan; sisters, Jane Woodworth of Danville, IL and Gerry (James) Blake of Grosse Pointe Park, MI. Mr. Young was born in Detroit, MI on April 7, 1913. He was awarded a scholarship to the University of Notre Dame and graduated with the class of 1934. He worked in the accounting department of General Motors Corporation prior to moving to Chicago Heights, IL where he went to work for the Lauhoff Grain Company whose corporate offices moved to Danville, IL. He was an officer of the grain company until 1960 when he retired and moved to Tucson. In Tucson he continued his business career in real estate investments. He was a member of the University of Arizona President's Club, University of Arizona Foundation, the Arizona Arthritis Center Advisory Board at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center and the Tucson Country Club. Memorial Services will be 6:00 p.m., Saturday, September 7, 1996 at the Tucson Country Club, 2950 N. Camino Principal with Father Angelo Mastria officiating, casual dress suggested. DAVIDSON, Dalwyn Robert, 78, died on Saturday, August 31, 1996 after a long illness. He was a kind, generous and loving man who will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Better known to his family and friends as Davy, Mr.Davidson and his beloved wife, Georganna Sharp Davidson, retired to Tucson from Cleveland, Ohio in 1989. Mr. Davidson had been a 42-year employee of the Cleveland Electric Illuminating (CEI) Company, Ohio's largest private electric utility, retiring as Senior Vice President in 1983. He continued to serve as a consultant to the firm for several more years. He commenced his career with CEI in 1941 shortly after receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from what is today known as Case Western Reserve University. He had spent the first two years of his college career at Kent State University. Shortly after joining CEI, Mr. Davidson took a leave of absence to serve in the defense of his country during World War II. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force in 1945, at the rank of captain. Mr. Davidson was born on August 10, 1918 to John Francis and Erma Hayes Davidson in Camden Township of Lorain County, Ohio. Mr. Davidson was elected a Fellow of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 1985. While living in Tucson, he was a member of the North Tucson Exchange Club, American Legion Post 36, and the Tucson Jazz Society. He was an avid fan of Dixieland and Big Band music. He is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Georganna Sharp Davidson; a daughter, Karen Davidson Leech (Alan) of Bozeman, Montana; two sons, Dale Wynn Davidson (Martha) of Tucson, Arizona, and Glenn Kirk Davidson (Carol) of Arlington, Virginia; and five grandchildren, Jay, Michael and Dallas Davidson, and Robin and Brian Leech. He is also survived by his brothers, Ronald Davidson of Hudson, Ohio and Delton Davidson of Elyria, Ohio, as well as a sister, Eloise Hensel of Oberlin, Ohio. A public Memorial Service will be held at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL on Friday, September 6, at 3:00 p.m. Graveside Services will immediately follow. DRAPER, Philip McClellan, died August 31, 1996. He lived in Tucson for 36 years, during which time he was active in community issues and served with Commission of Disability issues, Fire Code Committee, Human Services Study Committee and the Uniform Building Code Committee of the City of Tucson. He was an advocate for the disabled and a member of the Desert Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church. Born on April 18, 1935 in Sioux City, Iowa, Phil's formative years were in Nebraska and Colorado. After serving with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, he graduated from the University of Arizona. He is survived by his beloved mother, Grace Draper of Grand Junction, CO; and a brother, Stuart of Tucson. SANGER, Mattie Laverne (Grubbs), 71, loving wife and mother fell asleep in death Monday, September 2, 1996 after a long and difficult illness. Mattie was born in Hugo, Oklahoma May 24, 1925 the daughter of Benjamin and Beulah Grubbs, married May 3, 1947 and survived by husband, Charles Glenn Sanger; and Glennis (Philip)Firestone, Charles Duane Sanger (deceased), Patti Sanger; grandchildren, Aaron Firestone, Venessa Firestone, Tenea Inukai and Carol Conrad; great-grandchild, Marissa Garcia; also survived by Bennie Mae Springs of Garland, TX, Jack Grubbs of Burleson, TX; numerous nieces and nephews. Mattie was a full time housewife and a long time member of the Order of Eastern Star Old Pueblo Chapter. Mattie will be missed by both family and friends.
