Vivian R. Musielak

Vivian R. Musielak, 84, passed away on December 4, 2001 at home. She was born on July 17, 1917.She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Fritz Musielak, of Yuma; daughters, Carole (Bob) Cornelius, of Washington, Darleen (Dave) Cadieux, of Washington, Catherine Musielak, of Washington and Teresa Musielak, of California; sons, Tony (Colleen) Musielak, of Texas and Tom (Ruth) Musielak, of California; sisters, Fleance (John) Mickelson, of North Dakota, Joy (Art) Skeel, of North Dakota and Faye (Clyde) Nivison, of California; fourteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Jennie Umphrey; brothers, Gail, Joe and Paul Umphrey; sisters, Viola Patton and Sarah Kettle and grandson, Duane Hendrickson.

Visitation will be held at Johnsons Mortuary on Monday, December 10, 2001 from 5:00 - 9:00 PM with the rosary at 7:00 PM. Funeral services willbe held on Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church on Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at 9:00 AM. Desert Lawn Memorial Park will be her final resting place.

Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Yuma.

Goldye Rice Frink

Goldye Rice Frink, 88, long time Yuma resident; died Friday, December 7, 2001 at La Mesa Care Center. Goldye & her husband Truman C. Rice moved to Yuma in 1947. He had the Truman Rice Insurance Agency and she was a homemaker. Goldye was involved in church and charity work here for many years. She was also a soloist for Johnson Mortuary in the 1950’s. She is survived by her daughter Kay Wallace (Marion) of Yuma, three grandchildren, Kristi Painter (Jon), Jay C. Lewis, of Yuma and JudiLewis Ockler (Christopher) of Brooklyn, New York. She’s also survived by three great-grandchildren, Brittani Painter, Kasey Jo Painter and Jonathan Painter all of Yuma.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Christian Center on Wednesday, December 12, at 2:00p.m.

Ralph Edward Mason

Ralph Mason passed away peacefully Dec. 8, 2001 at his home in Tacna surrounded by loved ones. He was born Feb. 4, 1929 in Ocean Beach, CA.

Ralph served in the Navy and participated in the Bikini Bomb Tests, and served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict.He was a restaurant owner, bus and truck driver and a mechanic. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Vintage Cruisers of Yuma. He loved traveling throughout the U.S. and Mexico, watching wildlife and was an avid NASCAR and street rod fan.He was known as “the oldest teen-ager in town” and “the man of a million jokes.”He was the best husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Ralph was preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy and infant son, Marvin.He is survived by his wife Betty of the home; brothers Bob and Ron; sisters Margaret and Anna May; sons David (Karen) of Ocean Beach, CA; Rick (Roxanne) of Gilbert, AZ; daughters Cindy (Mark) Harp of Springfield, MO, Cheryl (Randy) Stiffler and Tina Eswonia of Tempe, AZ;step-daughters Linda (Gary) Eubanks of Sparks, NV; Sandy (Chris) Jacobson of Bonner’s Ferry, ID; Laurie (Scott) Lavender of Bremerton, WA; 14 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren;

Kamman Mortuary is in charge of cremation. Private services will be held by the family and his ashes will be scattered near his home in Tacna.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Angel Tree for the Salvation Army.

Marion Brower

Marion Brower, 79, died December 13th, in her daughter’s home after a long battle with cancer. Born June 17, 1922 in Hamlin New York, Marion was a resident of Yuma AZ for more than 25 years. Mrs. Brower was preceded in death by her husband, Harold R. Brower on May 19, 1989.

She is survived by her son, Richard Brower; daughter, Donna Ross; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Marion was loved by all that knew her. She had a great zest for life. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, December 22, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Church: 2895 South 8th Ave, Yuma, AZ 85264.In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Humane Society of Yuma County, 928-782-7621.

Peggy M. Montgomery

Peggy M. Montgomery passed away December 16, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvis J. Montgomery. She is survived by one sister, Betty Kenney, Edmonds, Oklahoma and one brother, Randall Shelton, Houston, Texas. She will be missed by her family and many friends.

Visitation will be at Sunset Vista Funeral Home, 11357 E. 40th, Yuma, AZ., from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday December 18, 2001.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday December 19, 2001 at 10:00 a.m at Sunset Vista Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematory.

Mrs. Gusta “Corky” Huffman

Mrs. Gusta “Corky” Huffman, 73, passed away on December 14, 2001 in Yuma, AZ. She was born on July 7, 1928 in Mulberry, Ark. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Elmo Huffman, of Yuma, AZ; son, James Huffman, of Las Vegas, NV and daughters, Sharon Oaks, of Indianapolis, IN and Brenda Keating, of Yuma, AZ and six grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2001 at 11:00 AM. Sister Maria, from Hospice and daughter in law, Margaret Huffman will officiate. Desert Lawn Memorial Park will be her final resting place.

Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Yuma, P.O. Box 4211, Yuma, AZ 85366.

Angelina Carlos Sandoval

Angelina was born on June 8, 1938 in Tepechitlan, Zacatecas, Mexico. She went to be with our Lord on December 14, 2001. A beloved wife, mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed by many who loved and admired her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Santos Carlos; son, Jose Luis; brother, Manuel Carlos and grandson, Lucas. She is survived by her mother, Eduviges Marquez; her husband of 47 years, Jesus; sons: Ramon & Bonnie Sandoval and Martin & Revi Sandoval; daughters: Sylvia & Ralph Davidson, Cecilia & JimMcCollough, Isabel & Michael Marquez, Angelina and Maribel; her beloved grandchildren: Ramon Jr. & Brad Sandoval, Martin Jr. & Christina Sandoval, Maria Elena & Edward Davidson, Malorie & Amanda Sandoval, Seth & Caleb McCollough and Hannah Marquez.

Services will begin with a wake from 5-10pm, Thursday, December 20, 2001. The rosary will begin at 7pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Avenue 36E, Wellton. Mass will be celebrated at 1pm on Friday, December 21, 2001 at St. Joseph’s Church followed by a graveside prayer at the Wellton Memorial Cemetery.

A reception for family and friends will follow at the McCollough residence, 28502 E. Co. 11th St., Wellton.

Pallbearers are: Ralph Davidson, Edward Davidson, Michael Marquez, Jim McCollough, Bryan Lambert, Dennis Pablo, Ramon Sandoval Jr., Brad Sandoval and Martin Sandoval Jr.

Donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, P.O. Box 157 Wellton, Az. 85356.

Charles Eugene Prince

Charles Eugene Prince, 73 a resident of Yuma for 11 years died December 17, 2001 at Yuma Regional Medical Center. He is survived by his wife: Mary Jo, son: Jack (Lois) Prince, and daughters, Nancy Darlene Hymel and Mavis Julia (Colby) Ferris, brothers, John Prince, thirteen grandchildren and 14 1/2 great-grandchildren. He took flying lessons when he was 14 years old and his passion was flying. Mr. Prince was a loving, caring, gentle person who was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

Funeral services will be at Sunset Vista Funeral Home, 11357 E. 40th St. , on Thursday, December 20, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may view one hour prior to service time. Interment will follow at Sunset Vista Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Memorial Processing Center, 1280 S. Parker Rd., Denver, CO. 80231-2100 or church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Seventh Ward, 2895 S. 8th Ave, Yuma, AZ. 85364.

Darrell Dean Thomas

Darrell “Ricky” Thomas, 48, of Somerton, AZ, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2001. Ricky was born December 24, 1952 in Phoenix, AZ., he lived on the Cocopah Reservation almost all his life.

Ricky was a respected member of the Cocopah Nation and worked as a Cocopah Tribal Police Officer. Ricky dedicated his life and career as a certified EMT Fire Fighter to the Cocopah/Somerton Fire Department. Ricky died in the line of duty doing what he loved, to the end.

Ricky was a wonderful husband, brother, nephew, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues and all who knew him and those whose lives he touched. He was always there for those who knew him or needed him.

Ricky was an “Elvis” fan and loved motorcycles. His greatest joy was to watch his children and family grow and succeed in life. He admired those who stood up for what they believed in and honestly did for others without asking for anything in return.

Ricky is survived by his wife: Margarita Barley of 10 years, Stepfather: Tom Thomas, sons: Adam, Darin, James (Juana Gonzalez) Barley; daughters: Elena, Allison, Kathy Jo Montague and Deanna Thomas; brother: Farlon; sisters: George Ann (Leo) Maxwell, Renita, Becky, Roxann, Ramona (Phillbert), Shiela (Erick) and Francine (Tim); aunt: Ilona (Ronnie) Mack; uncle: Edmund (Mercy) Vest; 6 grandchildren and 51 nieces and nephews. Ricky was preceded in death by his daughter: Melissa; mother: Vivian; father: Ernest Stevens Sr; sister: Erva; brothers: Bruce and Faron and grandmother: Mary.

Pallbearers will be: Andy Gonzales, Javier Ortega, David Sears, Tim Fernandez, Hilario, Felix, Anthony Davis and members of Cocopah/Somerton Fire Department.

Honorary Pallbearers: Anthony Phillips, Ronald Mack, Tom Thomas, Colin Soto, Leo Maxwell, Bennett Miller, members of Cocopah/Somerton Fire Department, Cocopah Police Department and Cocopah Tribal Fire Department volunteer.

Viewing will be Thursday, December 20, 2001 from 6 - 8pm at Kammann Mortuary. Funeral Services have been scheduled for 3pm Friday, December 21, 2001 at assembly of God Church on the East Reservation Cry House with cremation at 6am, Saturday, December 22, 2001.

Billy Martin Kolbo

Billy Martin Kolbo, 85, a resident of Yuma for 30 years, died December 13, 2001 at Yuma Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his children, Ron (Edna) Kolbo, of Carnation, Washington, Linda (Chris) Bern, of Warner Springs, California and Jay (Dolly) Kolbo, of Yuma; grandchildren, Shawn Bern, Carlena Bern, Sheri and Janel Kolbo and Darren Stewart and great granddaughters, Hanna and Victoria.

Mr. Kolbo was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, June, in January of 1998.

People in Yuma will always remember him as “Bicycle Bill”.

At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements by Sunset Vista Funeral Home, Cemetery and Crematory.

William Christopher Messer

William Christopher Messer, 28, of Yuma, passed away on December 18, 2001 at Barrows in Phoenix. Born on June 20, 1973, in San Bernardino, California. He was employed by Carl’s Jr.

Heis survived by his brother, Wesley, of Florence; aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Sanders, of Yuma. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held on January 2nd at Morningside Baptist Church, 2900 8th Avenue, at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Yuma.
