CABALLERO, Ruben R., 58, of Tucson, passed away November 16, 1996. Preceded in death by parents, Manuel and Santos; brothers, Mickey, Robert (Tito) Caballero. Survived by wife, Esther Caballero; sons, David, Ruben Jr. (Brenda) and Ronald Caballero; sisters, Carmen Ornelas, Martha Elena Magana, Grace Orduno; brothers, Oscar Ramon and Roy Caballero; grandsons, Jesse-Jay, Aaron Anthony; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 22, 1996 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Saturday, November 23, 1996 at 9:00 a.m. at St. John’s Church, 602 W. Ajo Way. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. CHAMBERS, Guy K., 79, of Tucson, passed away on Monday, November 18, 1996. He was preceded in death by his son, Paul. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty; grandsons, Paul and Robert; and great-granddaughter, Christian. After serving with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II, Guy returned home and received his B.S. and M.S. Degrees in Industrial Education at Bowling Green Univ. He taught Industrial Education in Detroit Public Schools before moving to Tucson for the fall semester of 1955. Mr. Chambers was a member of the original staff of Catalina High School where he taught Machine Shop until his retirement in 1979. Guy was an active outdoorsman. He was past President of the Southern Arizona Hiking Club, an able golfer, fisherman and environmentalist. Guy and Betty have been on an African safari and have explored Aztec and Inca ruins.Guy Chambers will be missed and well remembered by his many friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 1996 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to a charity of your choice.

COOK, Alice Hedges, born November 24, 1905 in Norcatur, Kansas, died November 19, 1996 at the age of 90. Survivors include her daughters, Elsie (Mike) Simpson of Phoenix, Barbara (Raing) Syyan (formerly Barbara Maddox) of Tucson; grandchildren, Becky and Jill Simpson of Phoenix, Debra (Rich) McAllister, Laura and Cindy Maddox all of Tucson; three great-grandchildren, Greggory and Tyler of Phoenix and Dylan James of Tucson, plus many loving friends. Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband Ken Cook in 1971. A graduate of Fort Hays University, Mrs. Cook did her graduate work at the University of Arizona. She came to Tucson in 1929 to teach in the Tucson Public Schools, later teaching in the Amphitheater District. Alice was a charter member of the Tucson Saguaro Chapter of the American Business Women's Assoc., as well as a member of the Saguaro Christian Church. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), Thursday, November 21, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), Friday, November 22 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. George L. Tolman officiating. Interment will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.

JELKS, Frances B., 79, a native Tucsonian, passed away November 17, 1996. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, J. Rukin Jelks, founder of Rillito Race Track, and her exquisite artistic sense was a powerful influence on horse acquisition through her knowledge of conformation. She is survived by her son, J. Rukin Jelks; grandsons, Rukin, Daniel and James; and nine great-grandchildren. She was deeply beloved and will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to PATRONADA DEL SAN XAVIER DEL BAC. A Memorial Mass will be recited Friday, November 22, 1996 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1946 E. Lee St., with reception following at the Mountain Oyster Club, 283 N. Stone. Arrangements by ARIZONA MORTUARY.

KNOST, Sarah E., 71, a 57 year resident of Tucson, passed away November 18, 1996. Born April 16, 1925 in Oplin, Texas. Mrs. Knost was a member of the Horseless Carriage Club of America and the Model 'T' Ford Club of Southern Arizona. Survived by her husband of 50 years and 8 months, William H.; daughters, Mary (Jim) Prince and Serena McNeil; grandson, Richard Prouty; granddaughter, Christine Prince Crosson. A Visitation will be held Thursday, November 21, 1996 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Funeral Service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL. Minister Jim Prince of the First Baptist Church of Deming, New Mexico officiating. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.

LATIN, Norman Theodore, 90, of Tucson, died November 19, 1996. Mr. Latin was a lawyer. married for 65 years to Frances Selker Latin. Worked for many years in Cleveland, OH as a businessman. Lived in Arizona for 12 years. Father of three children, Suzanne (Dr. Ned) Bloomfield of Tucson, Lewis (Judith) Latin of Cuyahoga Falls, OH and Holly Nelson of Modesto, CA and grandchildren Miriam, Andrew, Rachael, Michael, Christopher, Heather, Heidi andSarah and five great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Aaron, Joseph, Michael, Francesca, Benjamin and Maxwell. Graveside Service, Thursday, November 21 at 10:00 a.m., Evergreen Cemetery, Temple Emanu-El Section with Rabbi Thomas Louchheim officiating. MAESER, Karl E., 75, died November 18, 1996. Husband of Helen Maeser; father of Caryol (Jack) Gebhardt of Mesa, Cynthia Metcalfe and Karl C. Maser, both of Tucson, grandfather of Michelle, Heather, Tara, Scott, and Tina; great-grandfather of Cadra. Mr. Maeser was a member of B.P.O.E. #2532. PRESTON, Deloy Samuel (Sam) III, 31, died Saturday, November 16, 1996 in Tucson. Survived by his wife, Lara Preston of Houston, Texas; parents, Max and Andree Preston of Tucson, AZ; three brothers, Daniel Dikinis of Madison, Wisconsin, Robert Dikinis and Cory Dikinis, both of Tucson; one sister, Lacy Dikinis of Chicago, Illinois. Larry was a WWII Navy Vet, member of Marana VFW Post #5990, American Legion Post #7, and Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree. GOVORKO, Helen, February 23, 1904-November 16, 1996. Helen immigrated to the U.S. with her parents in 1909. She grew up in Pennsylvania and relocated to Tucson in 1929. Helen leaves a legacy that has endeared her to a multitude of friends. That legacy was her great gift of laughter which she shared with all of us. As the words of this unknown author proclaim 'Not even one can make a speech or sing a song. Most of us must be content to be one of the throng. But like the gift of laughter which sets happy souls apart, God grants to some the privilege of having a willing heart.' Helen’s heart was certainly willing and generous as well. Helen is survived by sons, John and David (Judith); grandchildren, Ivan, Julie (Musa) and David; and great-grandchildren, Fontessa, Paula, Omar, Gwendolyn and Amanie. She is also survived by her brother, George Radin (Florence) and sisters, Grace Aronokovich and Dorothy Manyin (Emil). Visitation will be Tuesday, November 19, 1996 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at ARIZONA MORTUARY, 7 E. University Boulevard. Funeral Services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 1996 at St. Demetrios Church, 1145 E. Ft. Lowell Rd. Interment will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery.

GRANT, Dorothy Estelle, 85, left her earthly burdens behind and ascended into Heaven to sit at the right hand of God on November 16, 1996. Truly there is a new star in Heaven tonight. She was born in Pittsburg, Kansas on April 25, 1911. Her family moved to Tucson in 1914 where she married, raised her family and remained a lifelong resident. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard D. Grant; survived by her three sons, James Grant, George (Peggy) Grant, and Howard S. (Beppie) Grant; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one 1 great-great -grandchild. She will be deeply missed by all those who loved her and to whom she always gave unconditional love. Friends may call at BRING’S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 S. Scott, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 19. Graveside Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 1996 at Evergreen Cemetery.
