INGRAHAM, Marion Lorraine, (nee Christiansen). Marion Ingraham passed away at the age of 70, on November 17, 1996 after suffering from a prolonged respiratory illness. She was born June 1, 1926 on a farm near Alden, Iowa, where she lived until graduating from high school. In high school Marion earned both academic honors and was an all state basketball player. She loved sports of all kinds, was an avid Ladycat basketball fan and enjoyed golfing at Skyline Country Club until illness prevented her from playing. She met her husband, D.I. 'Tony' Ingraham, while attending nursing school in Iowa City. He was a student-athlete at the University of Iowa. They were married August 25, 1946 after Tony’s discharge from Military Service following WWII. Marion and Tony celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past summer. Marion earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Marycrest College in Davenport, IA and received a Master’s Degree from Maryville College in St. Louis, MO. She taught school in the St. Louis area for many years while Tony was working as an executive for the Ralston Purina Company. After retirement, Marion and Tony moved to Tucson to be near their three children, Tim Ingraham, a partner in the law firm of Morris, Walker and Ingraham, Vicki Cogelja, who followed her mother’s footsteps as a teacher (Gallego Elementary School) and Dave Ingraham, an insurance general agent for American National Insurance Company.Marion is survived by her husband, their three children and eight grandchildren, Chris and T.J. Ingraham, Nicole and Sara Cogelja, Tony, Jessie, Steve and Matthew Ingraham. Marion loved and treated the spouses of her children as her own and would want then included here, Peggy Ingraham, Audrey Ingraham and Jerry Cogelja. She is also survived by her sister and best friend, Margery Treanor of Moline, Illinois; her brother-in-law, Marlyn Treanor and her two nephews, Chuck and Dennis Treanor. Marion loved to teach and gave unselfishly to her friends, family, and several worthy causes. In the spirit of Marion’s caring and giving nature, the family suggest that donations be given in lieu of flowers to the Catalina Foothills Presbyterian Church, where Marion was a devoted member, to assist in the planned construction of the Church’s fist permanent sanctuary. UHRIG, Dallas, born October 13, 1912, in Philadelphia, PA. A Tucson resident intermittently for 60 years. He graduated from the William Penn Charter School in 1930. After two years at Harvard he transferred to the University of Arizona, graduating with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Theory and French. He studied music composition with Harry Alexander Matthews. Member, Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Phi Mu Alpha. He enjoyed many happy years of his career in music education at St. Louis Institute of Music, and medical school administration at Georgetown University and the University of Arizona. His involvement in the arts, especially music, included forays into the theater, with substantial roles inlocal productions. He was a past president and longtime member of Arizona Friends of Music. As a composer he had works performed in a number of U.S. cities. He was a kind and gentle man with a fierce love of learning. He was an avid bird watcher, with a deep respect for the beauty of nature and the fragility of life. Preceded in death by parents, John and Daisy Uhrig; and brother, John. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Ellen; and his children, John of Washington, D.C.; Peter and his wife, Linda, of Austin, TX; and Mary, James, and David, all of Tucson; his brother, Philip and his wife, Ruth, of Indian Wells, CA; nephew, Jeffrey of Kearneysville, WV; niece Jane, her husband, Wayne, and their children, John and Daisy, all of Palm Desert, CA. WOLFARTH, Michael, 47, passed away November 6, 1996 in New York City. Born September 20, 1949 to Patricia A. Wolfarth and the late Harvey M. Wolfarth. Michael, a graduate of Salpointe Catholic High School, Tucson, and the New York School of Interior Design, is survived by his companion of over 18 years, Shaw Kinsley; his mother; brothers, Kim and Terry; sister-in-law, Marilyn; and niece, Emily, several aunts, uncles and cousins. Services were private.
BURNS, Dr. Robert O. Burns, January 16, 1910-November 10, 1996. Robert Burns was born in Emporia, Kansas and educated in the schools of Kansas and Illinois; he continued his education at Knox College and received a PhD in Physics in 1937 from the University of Illinois. His early career was with the Celotex Company. Early in WWII he began a distinguished career as a scientist in government service, first in various laboratories of the National Defense Research Council, then at the Office of Naval Research. In 1952 he was made Chief Scientist of the Army Electronics Warfare Center and from 1952 to 1954 he served as Chief Scientist of the Army Electronics Proving Ground at Ft. Huachuca. In 1956 he returned to the Navy Department, eventually serving in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, where he became Chief Scientist. When he retired in 1975, he and his wife returned to Tucson, where they had lived during his service at Ft. Huachuca. (His wife, the former Margaret Holte, died in 1979.) Dr. Burns was well-informed on a wide variety of matters, and he became a valued member of the Tucson community, serving for years as President of the Tucson Great Decisions Assn., as a board member of the United Nations Assn. of Southern Arizona (he was Vice President of that organization at the time of his death), and as a valued member of the League of Women Voters and of the Tucson Committee on Foreign Relations. As a leader of the Great Decisions movement, he became widely known and admired by many Tucsonans. He is survived by a niece, Mrs. Lillian Griffiths of Ridgeville, Ontario, Canada.
EVENS, Hubert B., 82, of Tucson, born in Manistee, Michigan, passed away Thursday, November 14, 1996. Hubert was preceded in death by his wife, Freda. Mr. Evens is survived by his daughters, Lois Gresly and Deanna Stremmel; son, Hugh Bert Evens, all of Tucson; brother, Karl (Ruby) Evens of Michigan; twin brother, Harold (Eva) Evens of Oregon; sisters, Lois (John) Drobena of Montana; and Dorothy Lessner of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great- grandchildren. Mr. Evens graduated from Copemish High School in Copemish, Michigan. Soon after, he was employed by Clark Equipment Company of Battle Creek, Michigan for 19 years and then moved to Tucson in 1955 where he was employed by Hughes Aircraft. He was an Industrial Engineer for 24 years and retired in 1979. During the Depression he worked at Interlocken, Michigan and the camp was later known as Interlocken National Music Camp. MAILFER, Marcelle L., died Thursday, November 14, 1996. Marcelle was born in La Chaux, France and was with us for 72 wonderful years. She emigrated to the United States in 1960 and became a citizen in 1995. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Charles Mailfer; sister, Suzanne G. WHITEFIELD, Lytle B., Jr., Ret. Lt. Col., died November 10, 1996 in his home. He died from colon cancer. He was buried with full military honors at Ft Huachuca, Arizona on November 15, 1996. He is survived by his wife of 51 years; two sons; one daughter; and their respective spouses; plus four grandchildren. He was well cared for in his last days by Carondelet Hospice of St. Mary’s Hospital.

HALE, John Frederick, Maj. USAF Ret., 76, passed away November 13, 1996 after a four year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Major Hale served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years. He also worked for and retired from the State of Arizona, Department of Economic Security. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maxine; by daughters, Dona (Gordon) Ritchie of CA and Susan French of Tucson; grandchildren, Jason and Alison Ritchie of CA, Damien Hale-Parshall and Jessica French of Tucson.
