Writer, journalist, mother, wife, creative woman of many interests including politics, history, Spanish, Hebrew, literature, stamps, crossword puzzles. Wife and partner of Bill Drake; mother of Andrea Drake, Sacramento and Kenneth W. Drake, Glendale and the late Katherine Ruth Drake; grandmother of Alex and Julia Drake, Sacramento, Jeremy and Lindsey Drake and Leah and Meredith Miner of Los Angeles; sister of Kenneth Bilby, Dallas and Judge Richard Bilby, Tucson; mother-in-law of Mary Lynne Drake, Glendale; sister-in-law of Mrs. Ralph Bilby, Phoenix, Elizabeth Bilby, Tucson and Joanne Bilby of Dallas; and stepdaughter of Mrs. Ralph Bilby of Tucson. Tucson native, graduate Tucson Senior High School, attended Stanford University, graduate of University of Arizona with highest honors. Survived by wife, Ann; sons, David Houck of Phoenix and James Houck of Portland, OR; daughters, Lisa Houck of San Francisco, CA and Donna Fichtemaier of San Antonio, TX; and grandchildren, Daniel, Clayton, Mathew and Robin. MOTANO, Mary Anhill, 53, passed away November 4, 1996. She is survived by her husband, Victor Montano; son, Mark R. RAYPHOLE, John Marion, 94, of Tucson, passed away November 6, 1996. He was born in Yeddo, Indiana on March 24, 1902 and was a member of Yeddo Lodge #636. Survived by close friend, Helen N. Kisthardt. Masonic Services will be held Monday, November 11, 1996, 1:00 p.m. at ARIZONA MORTUARY, 7 E. University Blvd., with a visitation one hour prior to service. DILZER, Mary Lynne, 44, died November 6, 1996 in Tucson, AZ. She is survived by her mother, Marianna Dilzer; sisters, Patricia (Thomas) Clark, Jayne (Patrick) Scott, Peggy (Frank) Whitehead, Rita (Troy) Frame, Rosemarie (Don) Hauser; brothers, Michael (Judi) Dilzer, Joe Dilzer and Robert (Rhonda) Dilzer; and many, many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, William Dilzer and brother, John Dilzer. Friends may call Friday, November 8, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. McGOWAN, David Jr., 74, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away November 6, 1996. Survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Joan M. McGowan of Tucson; daughter, Kelly of Tucson; son, Shawn McGowan of Mesa, AZ; brother, Don McGowan of San Diego, CA. Member of Elks Lodge #385. Dave was born in Glassport, PA. February 28, 1922. He was a WWII Veteran and moved to Tucson in 1946 after his discharge. Upon moving to Tucson he was employed by Tucson Gas and Electric Co. and retired in 1984. After retirement Dave spent much of his time golfing and traveling. Those who knew Dave will miss his keen wit and insightful advice. Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 1996 at Tucson Elks Lodge #385, 2404 E. River Rd. 85718.

PAINTER, Harrison E., Jr. (Harry), 68, passed away September 27, 1996, from severe heart disease. Interment was in Cave Creek VA Cemetery, near Phoenix. Harry served in the U.S. Navy in WWII. He was 'a friend of Bill Wilson’s' and had recently celebrated his 6th anniversary. Harry was an inspiration at hundreds of meetings over the years and his many friends are missing him. A Memorial gathering, sponsored by the Flowing Wells Group, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on November 16, in the Saguaro Room of the Marian Hall at St. Mary’s Hospital.

VENET, Carl Jerome, 38, died October 30, 1996. Born November 30, 1957 in Detroit, Mich. Carl was a 12 year member of the Blue Willow restaurant staff and vice-president of the family corporation. He is survived by his loving parents, Dr. Anthony and Frances Venet; his siblings, Theresa Venet (John) Grant, Mark (Grace) Venet, Paul (Cindy) Venet and John (Sandy White) Venet; his girlfriend, Roberta Brack; 10 nieces and nephews; and many extended family members who love and miss Carl. He also is greatly missed by many friends whose lives he touched during his too-brief time on earth. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 10, at Sanctuary Cove, 8001 N. Scenic Drive, off Pima Farms Road. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Carl’s outreach toward teens, the family requests that donations in his name be sent to Those Who Care, a nonprofit, at 3200 N. WILSON, Robert Eugene, 66, of Tucson, died November 6, 1996. Survived by wife, Rosa M. Wilson of Tucson; sons, Steven Dirk Wilson of Cocoa, FL, and Mark Anthony Wilson of Tucson; brother-in-law, Frank Richards of Long Beach, CA; nephew, Randy Richards; sisters-in-law, Mary (Julian) Saucedo, Ina Bustamante, Terry (David) Baston, Carmen (Don) Frevert, Blanca (Bobby) Stephenson, Cecilia Durazo; several grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Wilson worked as a Hydrologic Engineering Technician for USDA Agricultural Research Service in Tucson for over 30 years. For 37 years, he was Supervisor of football and basketball sports events for the University of Arizona. Services Saturday, 9:00 a.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY. ARMENTA, Huberto T. 'Beto' 78, of Tucson, passed away November 2, 1996. Survived by wife, Virginia Ochoa Armenta; daughters, Lydia Armenta and Anna Escalante; sons, Huberto, Oscar, Eddie, Frank, Henry and Joe Armenta; sisters, Ramona Bravo, Mary Moreno and Vera Olalde; brothers, Jesus and Henry Martinez; 32 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday November 8, 1996 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone, with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Santa Cruz Church. Interment to follow at New Pascua Cemetery, Mt. Calvario. Tam Shui Lin Au, 86, of Tucson, returned to the Lord on November 2, 1996. She is survived by her two daughters, Au King Yau Lee and son-in-law Pou Lee, Au Ping Jee and son-in-law Check Wah Jee; eight grandchildren, Ching Wah Lee Chuck and husband Houng Nam Chuck, Wing Kee Lee and wife Wai Wan Tsai Lee, Miss Mie Ha Lee, Wing Fei Lee and wife Tsai Kam Ng Lee, Ron K. Jee and wife Donna, Amy Gin and husband Douglas, Donald K. Jee and Arnold K. Jee; four great-grandchildren, Lok Kueng Chuck, Yen Yen Chuck, Wing Heng Lee and Bradley Douglas Gin; two brothers, My Woon Tam and My Sheik Tam; sister, Sun Lin Tam. DE LEAN, Catherine, 83, died November 5, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank De Lean. Survived by son, Angelo De Lean; and daughter, Helen (Ronald) Bonny, both of Tucson; grandmother of Steven and Kevin Bonny, Marie, Robert and David De Lean; great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Bonny also survive. KONZEN, Mary Lou, passed away October 16, 1996. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Vic; her sister, Lois Groh; her family, Mary Ellen and John Fralc; and her beloved grandchildren, Deven, Zach and Ally. She was preceded in death by her son Steve. Memorial Service will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 1949 E. Helen St., on Sunday, November 10, 1996 at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Youth Fund at Our Saviors Lutheran Church.

POTTER, Clyde Wheeler, 81, went to be with the Lord on November 4, 1996 at his home in Tucson. Mr. Potter was born November 19, 1914 in Gelatt, PA. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ada in 1963 and his second wife, Gertrude in 1994. A graduate of Bucknell University in 1936, his professional career included financial management at IBM Corporation. In 1947 he became treasurer of Walter L. Johnson Co. Inc. in Endicott, NY and later served as company president until his retirement in 1966. He was a ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church and active in church affairs throughout his life. Mr. Potter is survived by his son, Gerald (Carol) of Tucson; daughter, Dorene (Tom) Ackerman of Memphis, NY; five grandchildren, Lisa, Karen and Patricia in NY, Cori and Jeffrey in CA; and four great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 7, at 3:00 p.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, with Rev. Phil Kruis officiating. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Catalina Foothills Church Building Fund, 4646 E. Ft. Lowell, Suite 104, Tucson, AZ 85712.

ROBERTS, A.W. 'Scrap' 84, of Tucson, died October 21, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; son, Bob (Fran) Roberts; daughter-in-law, Betty; grandchildren, Cindi (Mark) Judson, Jeff (Holly) Roberts, Craig (Stephanie) Roberts, Chris Roberts; great-grandchildren, Tessa, Claire, Hunter, Reilly, Blakely. Mr. Roberts’ son, Bill survived his father for 8 days, he passed away on October 29, 1996. Mr. Roberts was born and raised in Los Angeles. In 1934 he moved to Tucson to attend the University of Arizona where he also played on the football team. While still a student, he purchased and operated the Varsity Inn. Later he built and operated the Tumbleweed Ranch and Stables which was located at Speedway and Swan. In 1945 he joined the Arizona Highway Patrol and rose to the rank of Lieutenant in charge of the Southern Division. In 1952 he resigned from the Highway Patrol to accept an appointment as Captain in the Pima County Sheriff’s Office. He resigned from the Sheriff’s office in 1957 and until his retirement in 1988 he was a real estate developer in Arizona and California. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 1996 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers, may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1636 N. Swan, Suite 151, Tucson, AZ 85712.

TRIANO, Gary Lee, 52, of Tucson, died Friday, November 1, 1996. He is survived by his children, Heather, Brian, Trevor, Lois and Elliot. He is also survived by his mother, Toni Schultz; brother, Dennis; and sister, Toni. He was born in Sacramento, CA on November 6, 1943. He graduated from Rincon High School in Tucson, served in the U.S. Air Force and graduated from the University of Arizona in 1968, where he then attended law school. Gary was involved in and contributed to the community both politically and charitably. He was the precinct captain of the Republican Party, vice-president of the Boy Scouts of America, YMCA board member, member of the Executive Committee of the Republican Party, U.S. Senate Inner Circle member, member of the Community Center Commission, member of the Presidents and Wildcat Clubs of the University of Arizona, and member of St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees. Gary received numerous awards including Couple of the Year from the City of Hope, Patron of Youth from the YMCA, Medal of Merit from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Task Force and the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America. Gary contributed to the Special Olympics, the American Heart Association, Arizona Wildlife Federation, Tucson Boys Chorus and Boys Club of Tucson. Gary was a loving, devoted father and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. Donations may be made in Gary’s memory to your favorite charity. A Memorial Mass will be held November 9, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 5150 N. Valley View Drive, Tucson.
