YUBETA, Maria Antonia S., 96, a 94 year resident of Tucson, passed away October 21, 1996. Born June 13, 1900 in Sonora, Mexico. Survived by her daughters, Sally Y. McQueen and Mary (Gilbert) Robles; sons, Luis (Carmen), Frank (Gloria), Joe (Yolanda), and Reyes Yubeta; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by husband, Luis Yubeta Sr. and son, John Yubeta. A visitation will be held Thursday, October 24, 1996 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. ANDERSON, Elise E., 82, died Wednesday, October 16, 1996. Formerly of Reading, Kansas, she has resided the last three years in Tucson, AZ. The daughter of Viola and Frank E. Deister of Emporia, KS. She received a Master’s Degree from Kansas State Teachers College in 1938. During her long teaching career, she taught in many towns including Ness City, Alma, and Belphrie, KS, Telluride, CO, and Ellenwood, KS. After her marriage in 1949 she continued her career in the Lyon Co. area. She was active in democrat politics throughout her life, including a run for state representative. Also she loved writing and receiving letters. Many of her former students were her correspondents for all these years. She is survived by husband, S. Thomas; and sister, Mayetta McCorkle of Emporia, KS; two daughters, Elizabeth Burnham of Tucson, AZ and Carolyn Depew of Benton, KS; and two sons, Frank Anderson of Norman, OK and John Anderson of Coopersville, MI. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter and a sister Dorothea Ryerson. She has four grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and dear cousins. DAVISON, Dorothy, 79, passed away October 20, 1996. Preceded in death by her husband John Reb Davison. Dorothy was a long time resident of Tucson and had been a telephone operator for Mountain Bell for over 25 years before retirement. Dorothy was a devoted mother and a loving, caring grandmother. She will be dearly missed by her family. JACKLEY, Leo B. 'Bud', 82, of Tucson, AZ, Died peacefully in his home October 10, 1996. Preceded in death by his wife, Grace, he is survived by his son, Tom (Debbi) of Tucson; two sisters, Alice Flynn of Rock Falls, IL and Vera Marietta of St. Charles, MI; two brothers, John Jackley and Harold Jackley, both of Rock Falls, IL; and nieces and nephews. BIRDWELL, Maj. Fred Leo, USAF, ret., 74 of Tucson, died Sunday, October 20, 1996. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Birdwell; daughter, Rae (Norman) Souba; loving companion, Leila Yeoman; and her children, Michael (Dianna) Yeoman, Keith 'Skip' Yeoman; sister, Helen Reilly; grandchildren, Patrick, Robert, Joann, Suzanne, Diane, Leanne, Jeremy, Lindsey, Clifford, Jennifer; two great granddaughters, two nieces; one nephew; and many other relatives and friends. Mr. Birdwell was a US Air Force pilot during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. BUBEN, Kathryn D. (Kay), passed away on Friday, October 18, 1996 at 5:35 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Tucson, AZ, following a long fight against bronchial asthma. She had just turned 74 years old on Tuesday, October 15, 1996. And was nine months away from celebrating her 50th Wedding Anniversary with her husband, Peter Buben. Kay was an Educator who taught in the Tucson Public School system for over 30 years. For most of that time she taught the 2nd grade, and would joke, that 'I never graduated from the 2nd grade.' Kay had a profound influence over the hundreds of students that she taught. Early in her teaching career when she taught at Sam Hughes School, she had a very special student named Deny DeConcini. Deny later went to become U.S. Senator Dennis DeConcini. Kay is survived by her beloved husband, Peter Buben; her brother, Ray Wilson and her three children, Norman, Dwight and Pam. She had seven grandchildren, Eric, Adam, Andy, Natalie, Aaron, Rene, and Ryan. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. HICKS, Glenn B., age 97, died October 19, 1996. Born in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota and spent his early years in Winona, Minnesota. Saw action in two major offenses in France during WWI. Attended the University of Minnesota and worked many years in Minnesota and Illinois as an executive with Montgomery Wards.
