MEDOFF, David M., 83, of Tucson, passed away October 14, 1996. Survived by wife, Teresa; sons, Donald Medoff of Tucson and Dan Long of Houston, TX; daughters, Stephanie Raign of Dallas, TX, Diane Medoff of Tucson, Susan Tully of Tucson and stepdaughter, Diana Prieto of Tucson; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Claire Goldberg of Springfield, PA. RIVERA, Richard Benitez, Sr., 78, of Tucson, passed away October 14, 1996.Survived by wife, Mercy V.; five children, Mary Lou (Arthur) Martinez, Barbara Marquez, Lydia V. Rivera, Richard B.(Cecilia) Rivera, Jr., Aurelia Rivera, all of Tucson; seven grandchildren, Arthur (Lisa) III of Atlanta, GA, Michael and Georgina of Chandler, AZ, Philip, Georgeanne, Raquel, and Richard III; and one great-grandchild, Christopher. Also survived by brother, Alfonso Rivera of El Paso, TX; half-sister, Antagracia Hernandez of Fresno, CA; and late brother, Gilbert Rivera of Miami, AZ. He was born in Miami, AZ, on December 10, 1917 and was a graduate of Arizona Deaf and Blind School. He was a retired Plumber from Arizona Pipe, Trade Local #741. Our grateful thanks to his doctor, Carondelet Medical Group Staff, St. Joseph’s Carondelet Transitional Care Unit, St. Mary’s Carondelet Emergency, ICU, Pharmacy, and Staff and Carondelet Hospice Holy Family. SMALZER, Allie Ingrid, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, 82, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Chicago Heights, IL, died October 13, 1996. Survived by her husband, Joseph Smalzer; daughter, Ina Smalzer; sons, Ronald (Mireya) William and Joseph (Julie) Smalzer; brother, Bill Peltomaa; grandchildren, Elin (Joel) Menk, Kane, Claire, Joey and Christina; great-grandson, Tyler; and former daughter-in-law, Margret Smalzer. VALENCIA, Eugene Gallardo, 53, of Tucson, passed away October 13, 1996 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born January 5, 1943, the first of five children. He is survived by his loving wife, Isabel V. Valencia; mother, Romona G. Valencia; sisters, Julia C. Gonzales, Linda C. Rivera, Teresa Jose; brother, Edwardo Cruz; children, Eugene, Jr. (Becky) of Phx, Rene, Sandy (Larry), Norma, Lisa, Tina (Adolpho), Placido, and Grace all of Tucson. Also survived by fourteen grandchildren; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:55 p.m. Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 1996 at Santa Rosa Mission (De Lima), 2015 N. Calle Centro. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 18, 1996, 9:00 a.m. at Santa Rosa Mission (De Lima). Interment will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Arrangements by Heather Mortuary and Chapels.

CURTRIGHT, Carl Brooks, 70, a 16 year resident of Tucson, passed away October 13, 1996. Survived by loving wife, Nadine; children, Carrol (Gary) McQuade of Laramie, WY, Joyce (Richard) Becker of Loveland, CO, Steve (Zoe) Curtright of Laramie; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Albert of Cheyenne, WY and Raymond of Tucson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Curtright served in the US Navy and the Air National Guard in Cheyenne during World War II. He served as treasurer of the Catalina Remote Control Modeler’s Club and was and active member of the Northwest Brethren Chapel. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 17, at Northwest Brethren Chapel, 505 W. Hardy with Pastor David L. West officiating. Graveside Service 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 21, at Greenhill Cemetery, Laramie, with Pastor Emery Hurd of Cheyenne Brethren Church officiating. DREVYANKO, Darlene V., 69, of Tucson, passed away October 12, 1996. Survived by children, Deborah Croffoot, Terry Garland (Antoinette) Graham; grandchildren, Karla Michelle Croffoot, Wendy Ann Graham and Kimberlie Suzanne Graham; and great-grandchild, Coty. Also survived by brothers, Raymond, Jack and Ed Massie; and a sister, Eileen St. Ores; and mother, Mabel Massie. She was preceded in death by husband, Paul Drevyanko and a son, Jeffery Lynn Graham. GRAUL, Bertha Helen, age 99 of Tucson, died October 10, 1996. Survivors include one grandniece, Madeline Sexton of LA and many friends at Trinity Presbyterian Church. GREENBERG, Larry, died Wednesday, October 9, 1996 of lymphoma. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. October 19, 1930, Larry moved to Tucson in 1976. His legacy lives on in his children, Laura, Robert (a.k.a. Hank). Marsha, son-in-law Alan, grandchildren Ben and Anna, the mother of his three children, Bernice. Brother Ben and wife Joan and close friend Andrea. His nearly sixty-six years on earth were always a passionate adventure. He was a teacher and school administrator for forty years; most recently at Duffy Elementary School, a restaurant owner (The Meeting Place), a musician, a supreme armchair sports fanatic and political pundit. He will be intensely missed by his family and friends, especially when they have a question no one else can answer because of his encyclopedic mind and his intuitive wisdom. A memorial celebration is scheduled Sunday, November 10, 1996. Call 298-2907 for details.

HAYES, Norma J., 73, of Tucson, died October 10, 1996. Preceded in death by husband, Richard Floyd Hayes, Sr. Survived by sons, John W. (Betty) Hayes of Tucson and Richard Floyd (Ruth) Hayes, Jr. of Denver, CO; daughter, Donna (Tracy) Jufer of Tucson; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald, Charles, Daniel Daigler; and sister, Helen Piskor, all of NY. HERRING, Raymond W. Born August 3, 1933 to Raymond and Irene Herring in Eagle Pass, Texas. Survived by three daughters, Karina Stewart, Laura Herring, Rita Herring; brothers, Edgar Herring, Morris Herring; sisters, Madelle Anderson, Gloria Meissner. Mr. Herring was a Agronomal Engineer working in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico for the past 35 years. An avid bullfighting aficionado and participating fan he was an active member of the Club Taurino de los Mochis. Mass will be offered Wednesday, October 16, 1996 at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 South Stone Ave. at 9:00 a.m. Interment to take place at National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona. KEELING, Katie Lee, formerly of Salida, CO, went to be with the Lord October 14, 1996. She was born November 17, 1898 in Corsicana, TX. She was the widow of William T. Keeling, who preceded her in death in 1973. Survived by son, Bill (Jackie) Keeling and daughter, Doris Watters, all of Tucson, AZ; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Glen and Betty Starbuck of Salida, CO. She was also preceded in death by son-in-law, Allen Watters. She has eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends. Mrs. Keeling’s life was a great adventure filled with excitement, purpose and power. Her disposition was like sunshine, she was full of energy, laughter, cuteness and style and a woman of great faith. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. LEVENSTEIN, Eda P., died on October 13, 1996 in Tucson, AZ. She is survived by her loving husband, Joel Levenstein of Tucson, AZ; niece, Patricia (David) Filippone of Blue Bell, PA; and her nephew, John (Martha) Springett of Fairfax Station, VA. LONTO, Dorothea, 60, passed away October 12, 1996. She will be remembered as a dedicated and faithful wife to (RET.) CMSGT James M. Lonto U.S.A.F. A loving mother to Michael (Laurie) Lonto of Portland, OR and Jean Lonto. By her brother Joseph (Rosemary) Galinis of Succasunna, NJ; her sister-in-law Joyce (Ray) Galinis of Bloomfield, NJ, and as a daughter-in-law to Mary M. Lonto. She was a member of the CWOC of Davis Monthan Base Chapel. And her hobby of donating her hand knitted afghans to various organizations was done from the heart. NEBE, Kenneth Stanley, 86, a 52 year resident of Tucson, passed away October 12, 1996. Born March 10, 1910 in Lindley, New York. Mr. Nebe retired from the University of Arizona. Survived by his wife, Hazel; son, Dennis (Mary) Nebe; grandchildren, Denise (Terry) Horan, Kent (Liz) Nebe and Christina Nebe; sister-in-law, Janet (Palmer) Miller. THAYER, Nathan B., 85, a member of a pioneer Arizona mining family, died October 13, 1996. He was born in Phoenix, graduated from Phoenix Union High School, and attended the University of Arizona where he became a Sigma Nu. He was a member of the 20-30 Club and a director of Goodwill Industries. He is survived by Ted and Teresa Thayer and his grandchildren, Johnathan and Katie. Memorial Services 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, A.L. Moore and Sons, 333 West Adams Street. Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85014.

WHITE, George E. 'Whitey' 77, died October 10, 1996. Survived by wife of 49 years, Hannah; daughters, Freddye Johnson and Patricia Rose (David Van Winkle); grandchildren, Jacqueline Greenley, Thomas Rose; Duane Johnson, Collin and Amanda Van Winkle; sister, Ina Langley and brother, Fred White. Whitey was employed at the Pima Co. Automotive Shops for 24 years. Life member of the VFW, past Commander of Post #10008. He served in the China Offensive with the 5th Fighters Group during W.W.II.
