HEWLETT, Gladys Elaine, 89, died October 9, 1996. Mother of Richard (Margaret) Hewlett of Ridgecrest, CA, Robert (Linda) Hewlett and Jean (Stan) Davis, both of Tucson; grandmother of Alex and Andrew Hewlett and Scott Davis and Jennifer Rauchut. She was a member of Chapter E of PEO Sisterhood in Tucson, Tucson Medical auxiliary volunteer at TMC for many years, Tucson Symphony Women’s Assoc., Opera Guild of Southern Arizona (a board member) and American Assoc. of University Women – two years branch president, two years State president, two years Regional vice presidency of the South Pacific Region. She is listed in Personalities of the West and Mid-West and will be honored in the next issue of Who’s Who in the Southwest. Funeral Service 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 13 at Tanque Verde Lutheran Church, 8625 E. Tanque Verde Rd., with Rev. Frank Nausin officiating. Interment to follow at TMP, East Lawn. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. Contributions to the Tanque Verde Lutheran Church Holiday Basket Fund, 8625 E. Tanque Verde, Tucson 85749 would be appreciated.

LIZARRAGA, Armando L., 34, of Tucson, died October 8, 1996. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Arnulfo and Joann Lizarraga, Sr; sisters, Ramona, Sylvia, Patricia and Trish Guntharp; brothers, Albert, Joe, Jessie, Arnulfo, Jr. and Bill; children, Vanessa, Jessica and Angelina; grandfather, Albert Lizarraga. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 13, 1996 at HEATHER MORTUARY, 1040 N. Columbus, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. A Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 1996 at St. Cyril’s Church, 4725 E. Pima. MAC ARTHUR, William, 52, died suddenly Tuesday, October 8, 1996. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 12 at 5:00 p.m. at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, 5th & Wilmot.

O’TOOLE, William Lawrence, 88, of Tucson, died October 8, 1996. Survived by his wife of 52 years, Alice O’Toole; sister, Helen McCafferty of Tucson; sisters-in-law, Irene vonMerveldt of El Reno, OK, Marie Jamieson of Pampa, TX; brother-in-law, Paul vonMerveldt of San Antonio, TX; many nieces and nephews. Mr. O’Toole was a WWII Army Veteran. Mass offered Saturday, 12:00 noon, Most Holy Trinity Church, celebrated by Rev. Timothy J. Howard, S.J. Entombment Holy Hope Mausoleum. SEGURA, Selena A., 24, passed away on October 5, 1996. Born in Frankfurt, Germany and raised in Arizona. She was working as a manager for Planet Hollywood Restaurants and living in San Antonio. She is survived by her mother, Irene; and brother, Rene. A Memorial Service will be held at Shadow Mountain Kingdom Hall, 19008 N. 34th St., Paradise Valley, Phoenix, Sunday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m.

SOTO, Reynaldo, 17, a lifelong resident to Three Points, died October 8, 1996. Survived by mother, Ernestina Soto; father, Jose N. Soto; brothers, Abel Angel Soto, Jose Soto III; sister, Crystal Soto; paternal grandparents, Jose and Alicia Soto; maternal grandfather, Ebaldo Ochoa; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. TARVER, Leon, H., 90 years, of Tucson, died October 9, 1996. Survived by children, LLoyd Tarver, Emma Nicholson, Ervin Tarver, Van Tarver, all of CA, James Tarver of Oregon, and Melvin Tarver of Tucson; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. BROUSSEAU, Leo Roy, 65, died October 7, 1996. Husband of Gloria Brousseau of Tucson; father of Philip Brousseau and Darren Brousseau, both of Tucson; brother of Joan (Herb) Van Slyke of Alpine, AZ; two nieces and two nephews also survive. CHMIELEWSKI, Helen Rita, 80, died Tuesday, October 8, 1996 in Tucson.Survived by daughter, Jolene Neubaum of Tucson; four grandchildren. Memorial Services for Mrs. Chmielewski will be held on Friday, October 11, 1996 at 7:00 p.m. at the Pantano Christian Church, 10355 E. 29th St., Tucson. CRAIG, M. Ford, 88, died October 8, 1996. Survived by his wife of 67 years, Thora; son, James and his wife, Zuleika. Graveside Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 11, 1996 at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd.

DAHLBERG, Virginia C., 88, of Tucson, passed away October 8, 1996. Survived by her husband, Henry; children, Carol (Paul) Gaudette and Henry (Linda) Dahlberg, Jr.; grandchildren, Craig and Keith Burns, Kristina and Kenneth Dahlberg; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kendahl and Kandyce Burns. Also survived by her sister, Elinor Weining. Virginia’s great-grandfather, the Rev. James Culberston, one of the first Presbyterian ministers in Ohio, arrived in Zanesville from Chambersburg, PA in 1812. His son, Dr. Howard Culbertson, was on General Grant’s staff during the Civil War. His son, Virginia’s father, was a pharmacist who died at the age of 42 in the 1918 flu epidemic. There were four children in the family, an older brother and three sisters. The brother had graduated from college and was in business in Buffalo, when Virginia’s mother, Mabel Culbertson, brought the three sisters to Tucson in 1926, hoping the warm, dry climate would benefit Mary Louise, who had tuberculosis. Virginia attended the University of Arizona where she met Henry Dahlberg, an Economics Major. After graduation, she taught English and Latin at Mansfeld Jr. High School. She had definite ideas about education, being confident that the phonics method was the most successful way to teach reading. Latin, she considered, a necessary preparation for professions requiring communication through writing. Virginia married Henry Dahlberg in 1934 and in December, 1941, they moved into their present home in El Encanto Estates. Private Graveside Services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church or to a charity of choice. Arrangements by ARIZONA MORTUARY.

DAVENPORT, Jack F., 82, of Tucson, died October 8, 1996. Survived by his wife, Kathleen H. Davenport; and son, Paul (Mercy) Davenport of Tucson. Mr. Davenport was a retired Davis-Monthan Civil Service employee and a member of the Palo Verde Baptist Church. Mr. Davenport has been a resident of Tucson since 1941 and he and his wife Kathleen have been married for 36 years. Graveside will be at East Lawn Palms Memorial Park Friday, 9:30 a.m. October 11, 1996 with Rev. Martin Jensen and Rev. Carl Vereen officiating. Interment will follow at East Lawn Palms Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to TMC Hospice Care, 5301 E. Grand Rd. Tucson, 85712. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

EISKANT-SEITER, Linda, 45, of Tucson, died October 5, 1996. Survived by her parents Helen L. and Edward E. Eiskant, husband, William T. Seiter, brothers, Duane and Robert Eiskant, sisters, Laura Naccarato, Janet Vito, Jeanine Whittington; three nieces and six nephews. Services will be held October 11, 1996 at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2545 N. Tucson Blvd. Friends may visit at 2:00 with memorial service at 3:00. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Spina Bifida Foundation.

Also survived by grandparents, Grace and Bryan Princ, Andy and Sharon Gwinnup, Albert and Joyce Espinosa; great-grandparents, Luz Marquez, Tony and Grace Espinosa, Vera Schurr; God parents, Sheila Salgado and Rodney Espinosa. FLORIAN, Edward George, 89, of Tucson, died Tuesday, October 8, 1996. Friends may call at DODGE CHAPEL, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 1996. Private Funeral Services will be held and a Memorial Service will be at Christ Church United Methodist at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 11, 1996 with Rev. Tom Kiracofe officiating. JOHNSON, Kermit F. On October 8, 1996, Kermit F. Johnson passed away here in Tucson. Kermit Johnson was born January 14, 1909 in Nevada, Iowa. He received his LL.B degree from Des Moines college of law in Des Moines, IA, in 1939 and was admitted to the State and Federal Bars in that same year. He entered the Federal Bureau of Investigation in May of 1943, serving in Atlanta, GA, Charlotte, NC. and Springfield, IL. before being transferred to Phoenix. He served as the Senior Resident Agent in Tucson from 1958 until his retirement from the FBI in December 1974. Kermit married Hazel Marie Hamilton, March 12, 1935 in Adel, IA. His wife, Hazel passed away here in Tucson, May 3, 1995. Survived by son, K. Bryce Johnson and his wife Rita of Danville, CA and their children, Stephen, Ki Ki and Mark; daughter, Mary F. Johnson of Anchorage and her daughter, Angela, Evan and Brett Johnson. Kermit was active in the Tucson Chapter of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, having served as Chairman for several years. He was also an active member of the Downtown Rotarians and an Elder at Trinity Presbyterian Church for many years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in the name of the Kermit and Hazel Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund. These can be sent to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 400 E. University, Tucson, AZ 85705. A Memorial Service will be held in honor of both Hazel and Kermit Johnson this Friday, October 11, 1996 at 9:30 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, with reception following at the church. Interment will be in Nevada, IA at a later date. Local arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.

LONGMIRE, Jacqucine E., 72, died October 7, 1996. Survived by husband, Wallace E. Longmire; daughters, Melodie Ann (David) McDonald of Tucson, Jayne Elyn (Paul) Thistle of Kalamazoo, MI; son, Mark (Lesa) Longmire of Tucson; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister, Lynne Bowles of Havre, MT. SLICHTER, Mae, 87, of Tucson, died September 4, 1996. Survivors include, niece, Joan Graff of Tucson; and nephews, James Slichter of Florida, Kenneth Groff of Tucson, William Groff of Tucson, and James Groff of Albuquerque, NM; also survived by grandniece, Joanie Kelley of Snowflake, AZ; and grandnephew, James Slichter Jr. of Miami, FL. Memorial Services will be at Lutheran Church of the Foothills at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 1996 with Reverend Gerald M. Conrad officiating. Burial will follow at Honeybrook, PA. VANERKA, Joseph A., 84, of Tucson, born October 18, 1911 in Chicago, IL, died October 5, 1996 in Tucson. Graduated from the University of Illinois in 1933 and moved to Tucson in December 1944. Began his career as a custom homebuilder in 1946 and retired in 1972. He is survived by daughter, Lynne Jackson of Tucson; grandsons, Matthew (Kathleen) Clements of Los Angeles, CA and Michael Clements of Manhattan Beach, CA; and sister Helen Fayette of Tucson. Preceded in death by wife, Alice and brother, Charles. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Lute Olson Basketball Camp, University of Arizona, Men’s Basketball Office, McKale Center, Tucson, AZ 85721 Attention: Camp Director or charity of donors choice. Private Services to be held by the family.

WORTHINGTON, Mrs. William B. Mrs.William B. Worthington passed away on October 9, 1996. Born in Louisville, KY, Mrs. Worthington moved to Tucson with her family in 1952. She has been active in her sorority Pi Beta Phi, PEO and for several years was volunteer food service manager for the American Red Cross blood drives. She was founding director of Haven, Inc. and sat on their Board for 25 years. At her death she was still on their Advisory Board. Receiving her B.A. in Education from the University of Arizona she taught school in Sierra Vista while living there. She is survived by her two sons, Rear Admiral George Worthington, USN (Ret.), and Captain Bill Worthington who is Coast Guard licensed Master. She is also survived by her brother, Rhodes Frost of St. Petersburg, FL; and six grandchildren. Elizabeth was deeply loved and will be missed by many. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 11, 1996 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip’s In The Hills Chapel, Reverend David Richardson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to Haven, Inc., 1107 E. Adelaide Tucson, AZ 85719 would be appreciated.Local arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).
