ANDERSON, Ester J., 75, passed away at her home on October 5, 1996. Ester was born to Harry and Hazel Otis in Orangeville Township, MI on June 29, 1921. Her early years were spent in Michigan. She retired from Eaton Mfg. in Battle Creek, MI. Ester married Lt. Col. L. B.Anderson in Tucson on April 5, 1962. They traveled extensively during their marriage spending two years in Thailand. Ester was a caring and loving person who will be very missed by her many friends and family. She is survived by her husband; one sister, Elinor Shedd; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held at 11:45 a.m. Friday, October 11, 1996 at Rincon Mobile Home Park Rec. Center.Burial Service will be in Battle Creek, MI. BURTON, Audrey Ruth, 72, a 19 year resident of Arizona, passed away October 4, 1996 in Tucson. Born February 6, 1924 in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Burton Sr. and sister, Avonelle Cordes. Survived by her children, Robert C. Burton, Jr, Bonnie Werner, James Burton, John Burton, Maryana King; brothers, Wallace Ashby and Charles Welcko; seven grandchildren. FLORIAN, Edward George, 89, of Tucson, died Tuesday, October 8, 1996. He was born October 3, 1907 in Grand Ledge, MI and lived in Eaton Rapids until moving to Tucson in 1948. He retired on October 31, 1972 as Vice President from the First Interstate Bank completing 49 years of banking services. He was the first manager of the Broadway/ Country Club office of Southern Arizona Bank. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Hope; daughter, Mabel (Ken) Deeg; son, Kenneth (Marge) Florian; six grandchildren, Bill (Patti) Deeg, Charles (Laurie) Deeg, Tom (Denise) Deeg, Susan Sisler, Gary (Cindy) Florian, James (Laura) Florian; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one half-sister, Marjory Buckingham. Predeceased by his first wife of 45 years, Maxine. He was an active member of Christ Church United Methodist, Golden Age Club, past president, Senior Friends and headed the paper drive back some 15 years ago to purchase the church organ. JONES, Ernie Grover, Jr., died October 3, 1996 in Tucson, Arizona, following a brief illness. He was born September 26, 1926 in Ensley, Alabama, the son of Earny Grover Jones and Wilda Collum Jones, one of eight children. After serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II in the Pacific, Ernie attended college at Auburn University and Birmingham Southern College. In 1948 he married Charlotte Traweek in Birmingham, and the following year they moved to Williams, California where Charlotte’s father was pastor of the Williams Methodist Church. Ernie and Charlotte were very active in the church’s noted choir. They moved to Sacramento and later became founding members of St. Mark’s Methodist Church. They graduated from Sacramento State University in 1952. Ernie and Charlotte began their long teaching careers at Sylvan School in Sacramento. After directing the Safety and Training Division of Aerojet General’s Rancho Cordova plant in the 1960's, Ernie returned to the San Juan Unified School District to administer vocational education programs until his retirement in 1989. Over the years Ernie worked as a vocational counselor and administrator at La Sierra, Encina, Mira Loma, El Camino and other high schools in the San Juan District, and helped guide hundreds of Sacramento area students toward their career goals. Ernie was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, ECV, Rotary, Kiwanis and the Navy League. He is survived by sisters, Nell Brockman of Ashville, Alabama, Pauline Nesmith of Columbiana, Alabama, Aline Starlin of Pelham, Alabama and Clarice Sexton of Eastlake, Alabama; brother, Robert Jones of Cottonwood, Arizona; daughter, Constance Jones of Tucson, Arizona; son, Stephen Jones; daughter-in-law, Elisa Yadao Jones; and grandsons, Sihon and Stuart Jones of Kahaluu, Hawaii. Services will be held at the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Tucson, 915 East Fourth Street, Tucson, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 10. OLSON, Leslie H., 69, of Oro Valley, AZ, died October 8, 1996. Mr. Olson was born in Sioux City, IA. He began his career working as a messenger for the Toy National Bank, Sioux City, progressing through all departments of the bank and in 1972 was elected President. In 1984 he joined Peoples Bank and Trust Company, Waterloo, IA, and in 1985 accepted the position of President and CEO of Commercial Trust and Saving Bank, Mitchell, SD. Mr. Olson served as President of both the Iowa Bankers Association and South Dakota Bankers Association. He was a founder of the Sioux City Community Theater and served many years as its treasurer. He also served as Treasurer of the Congregational Church for over 25 years. Mr. Olson was active in the Masonic Order, a Past Master of Morningside Lodge #625 A.F. and A.M., a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason, past treasurer of Abu Bekr Shrine Temple and a member of Chapter #124 R.O.J. He was also President of the Kiwanis Club in Sioux City and Oro Valley, a Community Board Member of Liberty Bank and Trust and on the Board of Directors of Oro Valley Country Club. Mr.Olson is survived by his wife, Faye of Oro Valley; a daughter, Karen of Des Moines, IA; and a son, Kirk; and granddaughter, Katy, both of Sioux City. A Memorial Service will be held on October 18, 1996 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 1431 W. Magee Rd., Tucson, AZ, with Rev. Haas officiating. VANERKA, Joseph A., 84, of Tucson, born October 18, 1911 in Chicago, IL, died October 5, 1996 in Tucson. Graduated from the University of Illinois in 1933 and moved to Tucson in December 1944. Began his career as a custom homebuilder in 1946 and retired in 1972. Raymond Dean Watson, Sr. - Dear relatives and friends, it is with heartfelt emotion that we must inform you the loss of our beloved husband and father, Raymond Dean Watson, Sr. He went to meet his Heavenly Father at 12:45 p.m., Sunday, October 6, 1996. He left peacefully, surrounded by loved ones in his home in Tucson, AZ. Ray was a native of Arizona, born in Miami on January 18, 1918, He spent his early years in Douglas, Arizona where he was a member of the First Christian Church where he sang in the choir. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1946 during World War II. He was a resident of Tucson for the last 44 years, where he was employed by O’Reilly Motor Co. He retired in 1980. A man of great humor who loved the outdoors and music. He was outgoing and well liked by all who knew him. Mr. Watson is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy 'Dot'; daughter, Cynthia (Bruce) Stubbs of Carlsbad, CA; and son, Raymond Dean Watson II of Tucson. He also leaves a sister, Eleanor Reuter; and brother, Gerald Watson, both of Tucson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Nellie Watson; a daughter, Judith Darlene; a brother, Clyde Jr.; and sister, Vivian Elson. He will be greatly missed, but forever in our hearts.
