FELIX, Dorothy 'Dottie' age 72, born October 5, 1924 in Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully in Tucson on January 28, 1997. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Dr. Robert L. 'Bob' Felix; six children, Bill (Peggy) Valentine, of Sacramento, CA, Cindy (David) Shadegg, Jim Felix, Bob Felix, Debby Moreno, all of Tucson, and Greg (Debbie) Felix, of Fountain Valley, CA; and seven grandchildren, Camille, Demetria and Katie Shadegg, Alisa and Anna Moreno, and Brandon and Garrett Felix. She is also survived by many friends who will miss her dearly, and knew her as 'Amma.'She was very active in the Tucson Junior League and many other philanthropic organizations. FUCHS, Morton, M.D., 73, of Tucson, died January 29, 1997. Survived by wife, Harriet M. Fuchs; mother-in-law, Estelle Kissileff of Tucson; children, Robyn Louise (Kenny) Martin of State College, PA, Michael Ian (Paula) Fuchs, M.D. of Tucson, Lyn Nancy (Steve) Umles of Irvine, CA; and John David Fuchs of Costa Mesa, CA; sister, Irene Singer of Philadelphia, PA; and grandchildren, Matt, Ronni and Sam Umles, Colin, Sean, Seth and Emilia Martin, Harrison and Natalie Fuchs; nephew, Stephen J. Greenberg of Las Vegas, NV. Preceded in death by parents, Ruth Meinhardt Fuchs and Charles Fuchs, and sister, Elaine Fuchs Greenberg. Dr. Fuchs was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA and was a graduate of Overbrook High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WWII and was a B-24 bomber pilot. He returned home to attend St. Joseph College in Philadelphia and was first in his class; he then graduated from Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital in 1952 first in his class and he was a charter member of Hahnemann Medical College’s Chapter of the National AOA (Honor Society.) He served his Medical Internship and Residency from 1952-1956 at Hahnemann. He began his private practice in Internal Medicine in 1956 and was boarded in Internal Medicine in 1959. In addition, he maintained the position of Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital from 1956-1971. During that time, he published numerous articles and texts and was an internationally known authority on Hypertension and Edema. He moved to Tucson in 1969 and had his private practice in Internal Medicine until 1994. From 1972 until his death, he served as the Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program of Tucson Hospitals Medical Education Program. He was a Fellow in the American College of Physicians since 1972 and served as Governor of the Arizona Chapter from 1994 until his death. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Internal Medicine, the Arizona Medical Association and the Pima County Medical Society and served as President in 1981. He was on the Board of Directors of MICA from 1985-1996 and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Tucson Medical Center in 1978. Services Friday, 11:00 a.m., Temple Emanu-El, 225 N. Country Club Rd., with Rabbi Jeffrey Ronald, Rabbi Albert T. Bilgray and Rabbi Joseph S. Weizenbaum officiating. HENSS, Wilhelmina, 75, of Tucson, died Saturday, January 25, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ferdinand; son, Fred L. Henss and granddaughter, Michelle. She is survived by her children, Yvonne Bergier and Robert E. Henss; grandchildren, Fred, Monique, Donna, Mark, Yvette; and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Henss was born in The Hague, Netherlands on July 9, 1921 and has been a resident of Tucson since 1950. She was a longtime member of the Dutch Club. HILS, Marie Antoinette, passed away January 21, 1997. Marie was born near Marseille, France on February 7, 1903. She is survived by her daughter, Annette (Howard) Baldwin of Tucson; son, Paul Resta, Ph.D. of Austin, Texas; her granddaughters, Denise Baldwin of Tucson, Challys True of Spokane; three other grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Marie was an adventuresome soul. Marie began her great American adventure when she arrived in Ellis Island in November, 1926. After learning English and struggling through the Great Depression, she proudly became a United States Citizen. Marie had a curious mind, and was always active. As a lifelong student of learning she appreciated the beauty of all religions; the music of Chopin and Bach; operas and ballets. Social at heart, she loved being with people and caring for her family. Marie was unique individual who often said she lived during the best years of the world, beginning with horse and buggy to space ship travel. She knew in her heart women were just as strong and capable as men and took pleasure in seeing the gain of women’s rights and racial equality. She loved children and her family deeply and held great optimism for each new generation to participate in a life which gives youth the opportunity to blaze their own path, just as she did. Her family admired, respected and loved her and will miss her dearly. No service will be held except within the hearts of those near to her. MYERS, II, Dr. John F., 41 years old, passed away January 23, 1997 at home surrounded by a loving family and friends. John was born at Ft. Bragg, NC, November 14, 1955, He graduated from Yuma Union High School in Yuma, AZ, in May 1973. John attended the University of Arizona and graduated with honors from the University of Arizona Medical School, in May 1982. John was the first recipient of the Van Winkle award for his participation in surgical research at the University Investigative Medical Nature Center. After completing his anesthesiology residency at the University Medical Center, he was appointed Associated Professor of Anesthesiology and served in that capacity from 1987 to 1994 when he was medically retired. He was a musician and accomplished pianist performing for the public and also served as a church organist. He was an avid equestrian. PHILLIPS, Jimmy Doyle, age 63, a 25 year resident of Tucson, passed away January 27, 1997. Born May 17, 1933 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mr. Phillips was a highly decorated Marine Veteran of Vietnam and Korea. He received numerous medals, including the Presidential Unit Citation. He was a member of VFW Post 549. Mr. Phillips is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Joyce; daughters, Laura (Robert) Eastman and Debra (Robert) Montano; sons, Danny (Suzette), Jimmy, Jr., and Russell (Norma); brothers, Russell (Norma) and Morris; sister, Virginia (Frank) Mascari; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews. SHAW, Robert Tyler, 71, of Tucson, passed away on January 26, 1997 from extensive injuries sustained in a tragic automobile accident on January 22, 1997. Bob Shaw was born in Washington D.C. on June 18, 1925, the son of Maj. Gen. Franklin Prague Shaw and the former Mary Inez Skees. He spent his childhood in Virginia, Kansas, China and Ohio. During WWII he served in the U.S. Army as a photo intelligence analyst. He graduated with distinction from the University of Arizona in 1947, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He was also a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Shaw worked briefly as an editor for Proctor and Gamble before joining the brand-new Central Intelligence Agency in early 1948. He remained with the CIA as an Operations Officer in the Clandestine Services until his retirement in 1980. During those 32 years he served abroad at six Foreign Service posts in Latin America and traveled extensively in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Asia. He was the chief of four CIA overseas installations and was the charter member of the Senior Intelligence Service. In 1979 he was awarded the Intelligence Medal of Merit. Subsequent to his retirement, Shaw established a security firm which provided training in how to anticipate, avoid and survive terrorist attacks. In 1990 Bob Shaw returned to Tucson and was active in the Tucson Committee on Foreign Relations, Foreign Service Retirees of Southern Arizona, Central Intelligence Retirees Association, Association of Former Intelligence Officers and Tucson Rod and Gun Club. Shaw was involved in flying, amateur radio, gun collecting and shooting, antique car restoration and with several collections, most recently British horse brasses. He was also a strong supporter of animal welfare issues. Bob Shaw is survived by his wife, the former Janet Lee Ruggles, a Tucson native; three children, Barbara Lee Hurt, a bilingual teacher in San Antonio, TX, Richard Wilson Shaw, a US Army officer currently serving on the Joint Staff in the Pentagon and Thomas Ruggles Shaw, a US Marine Corps fighter pilot currently stationed at San Diego, CA; four grandchildren, Steven, Mark, Michael and Helen. Shaw is also survived by two brothers, Franklin Prague Shaw, Jr. of Santa Fe, NM and Harry James Shaw of Easton, MD. Service will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church, Friday, January 31, 1:00 p.m., with Dr.William F. Dean officiating. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. ARRIOLA, Manuel 'Manny', Sr., age 76, a life time resident of Tucson, passed away Monday, January 27, 1997. Born February 17, 1920 in Glendale, Arizona. Mr. Arriola was a Army Veteran of World War II from 1940 to 1945, and a dedicated member of the 158 Bushmasters Association and the American Legion. He also coached for many years and is a lifetime member of Sunnyside Little League. He retired from the city of Tucson Fleet Department after 34 years of service. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Bertha; sons, Frank (Virginia) and Manny (Yolanda); daughters, Irma (Henry) Loya and Gloria (David) Loya; son, Rick (Carmella); sisters, Licha Salas of California and Anita Palafox of Tucson; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by brother, Frank Arriola of Tucson and sister, Carlotta Williamson of California.
