He is survived by his children, Robert Kiehn, Gail Gallardo, Edna Kiehn; grandchildren, Stacie Hadlock, Christopher Kiehn, Louis Gallardo, Alex Kiehn; mother, Edna Kiehn; sisters, Katherine Andersen, Joan Angel; brother, George Kiehn. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, 1997 at East Lawn Palms Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Rd.Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.

KING, Helen B., 95 years old, died Tuesday, January 21, 1997 in Tucson. Survived by nephew, John E. Juul of Tularosa, New Mexico; niece, Eunice Anderson of Phoenix, AZ. PARKER, Drew E., 39, was killed by hit and run driver while riding his bicycle on January 17, 1997. He is survived by daughter, Brittany; parents, Bob and Glendis; brothers, Brian of Durango, CO and Craig of San Jose, CA. Drew graduated from Canyon del Oro and the University of Arizona. Memorial Service Saturday, January 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 8799 N. Northern (corner of Hardy & Northern). Memorials may be made to Shepherd of the Hills Building Fund.

PEREIDA, Maria C., 'Nana', 93, of Tucson, passed away January 13, 1997. Born August 6, 1904 in Sonora, Mexico, she moved to Douglas in 1960 and then later to Tucson. She was dearly loved and will be missed by many. She will be remembered for her strong will, her ability to make others laugh and her love of all animals. Her friends wish to thank those at Park Villa Convalescent Care Center for the loving care they provided. Services will be held Saturday, January 25, at 10:00 a.m. at LDS Cemetery. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd., (at Speedway).

PERRY, Paul Jones 'P.J.', 79, a 44 year resident of Tucson, passed away January 19, 1997. Born October 29, 1917 in Virginia. In 1941 Mr. Perry was a member of the Flying Tigers in China. He was a Veteran of World War II. Retired as a Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force. A member of VFW post 549, DAV post 18 and American Legion post 36. Survived by wife of 50 years, Thelma; daughter, Jane (Myron) Young; son, William Perry; grandchildren, Dan and Teri Young. A Graveside Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 1997 at South Lawn Cemetery, 5401 S. Park Ave. Arrangements by SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY.

WAPNER, Ruth, 75, of Tucson, died Tuesday, January 21, 1997. She is survived by her children, Bernie Bernstein, Judy Chapman; grandchildren, Zachariah Bernstein, Michael Giatan, Megan Chapman, Grace Bernstein, all of Tucson; brothers, Aaron Makrouer of Flint, MI, Jerry Makrouer of Tucson. Mrs. Wapner was a member of Congregation Ner Tamid, Congregation Beth Israel of Flint, and Hadassah. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 1997 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd., with Rabbi Joseph Weizenbaum of Congregation Ner Tamid officiating. Interment will follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.

WILKES, Charlotte Vickers nee Bedford, 54, of Tucson, died suddenly of complications due to asthma on January 22, 1997. She is survived by her husband, William F. Wilkes and her children, Deborah C. Wilkes of San Francisco, W. Russell Wilkes of Denver and Linda Katherine Wilkes of Scottsdale. She is also survived by her mother, Janet Bedford; her sister, Jennifer Sporleder, both of Tucson; and her brothers, Eugene Schuyler Bedford of Oklahoma and Dirk Bedford of Anaheim, California. Charlotte, 'Vicki', had been a resident of Tucson since 1964. As well as being a wonderful wife and mother, Vicki was very active as a volunteer in the community. Over the years she has served enthusiastically as a volunteer for: the Tucson Museum of Art League, the Assistance League, Manzanita Elementary Parent-Teacher association, Salpointe High School Parent’s Association, The Junior League and the St. Luke’s Board of Visitors. Vicki has worked for the last 10 years in the office of Dr. Larry Leber, where she created a warm atmosphere for her co-workers and patients alike. All who knew her loved her and were lifted by her spirit and boundless energy. We can scarcely imagine this vibrant and lively person gone. She will be greatly missed. Memorial Service Saturday, January 25, 4:00 p.m. St. Philip’s in the Hills. In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to Asthma Foundation of Southern AZ.

BLAKELEY, Elizabeth J. Gubser, 29, passed away suddenly January 19, 1997 in St. Louis, MO. Survived by husband, Derek of St. Louis; mother, Shirley Curtis of Tucson; father, Merlyn Gubser of VA; brother, William 'Bill' Curtis of Tucson; grandfather, Charles Curtis; paternal grandmother, Orva Gubser; aunt, Gloria Curtis Lutz; and cousin, Andrea McEvoy, all of OR; aunt, Ann Carr of WA; and many friends including those at the History Department at Washington University. Elizabeth grew up in Tucson and graduated from CDO High School in 1984 where she received the Donaldson Award for outstanding student and was also a National Merit Scholar. She graduated from Carlton College in 1988 Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. She was close to completing her PHD at Washington University in St. Louis where she was past head of the Graduate Student’s Association, a NEH Fellow and a member of various historical associations. She also taught history at Washington University and St. Louis University. A Memorial Service will be held Friday in St. Louis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Community Food Bank.

CARISTO, Catherine, 84, of Tucson, died January 21, 1997. She is survived by her daughter, Rose A. Filippelli; five grandchildren, Jim (Brenda) Filippelli, John (Karen) Filippelli, Cathy (Jeff) Matchett, Ben (Mary) Palazzo, Domonic (Charlotte) Palazzo; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister and three brothers. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. at Magee, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, with Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Odilia Catholic Church, 7570 N. Paseo Del Norte, Friday, January 24, 1997, 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery.

COFFMAN, James H., 72, died January 19, 1997. Preceded in death by his wife, Loretta. Survived by a sister and two brothers.Visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 1997 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

LEHMAN, Steffenie Georgia, 55, of Tucson, died Monday, January 20, 1997. She is survived by her children, Thomas Miltner, Teresa Warr; grandson, Maxwell Warr; sister, Sandra Rubin; brother, Morgan Smith. Ms. Lehman was General Manager of Rodeway Inn on Grant Road. Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 1997 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Memorial donations are requested to the Arizona Cancer Center, University of Arizona Foundation, 1501 N. Campbell Ave., Tucson, AZ 85775-2402.

MELONE, Joseph J. He was born March 23, 1919 and joined his three brothers on January 18, 1997, Marco, John and Bill. Joe made his living working construction before his retirement. He was a proud American who earned a purple heart in the jungles of the Philippines during World War II. He enjoyed gardening and inventing household gadgets. (He rarely threw anything away.) He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his nephew and nieces, Frank Melone (Gail), Christine Hamilton (Rick), Elsie Velek (Jerry), Jonna Art (Mickey) and Annette Melone (Judy); and his three sisters-in-law, Teresa Melone-Durako, Clara Melone and Marie Melone. The family wishes to thank Uncle Joe’s friends at the local Disabled American Veterans Post #18 for all the friendship and affection they gave him over the years. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m Friday, January 24 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the D.A.V. Post #18, 4656 E. 1st. Street, Tucson, AZ 85711.

MORENO, Lidia E., 80, died January 19, 1997. Mother of Jennie Romero, Frank Moreno, Stella Villavicencio and Ralph Moreno, all of Tucson; sister of Joe Moreno of Tucson and Mary Valencia of Phoenix, AZ; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Moreno was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Kodalen. Funeral Service, 9:00 a.m. Friday, January 24th at BRING’S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, with Rev. Don Gorham officiating. Survived by grandchildren, Nadine Adams from WV, Isaac Woods from CT, William Woods from OH, Phyllis Williamson from GA, Rebecca Wells from WV; 28 great-grandchildren; 32 great-great-grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 1997 at Grace Temple Baptist Church, 1019 E. 31st St., with Rev. Larry Rosette. Interment will be at South Lawn Cemetery. RING, Charlotte Addie, 81, of Tucson, died Tuesday, January 21, 1997. She is survived by her husband, Clinton; sons, Robert C. Ring of Tucson, Alan D. Ring of Louisville, KY; grandsons, John of San Diego, CA, David of Boston, MA, Steven of Austin, TX, Evan of Louisville; great-grandson, Clinton of Boston; and sister, Eunice Roberts of Bisbee, AZ. Mrs. Ring graduated from the Univ. of Arizona in 1937 and taught school in Bisbee for one year before marrying Clinton in June, 1938. She and Clinton moved away from Arizona later that year, but retired to Tucson in 1976. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 1997 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 750 W. Chapala Dr., with Rev. Barbara Anderson officiating. Private burial will be at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. Friends may call at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, are requested to the American Cancer Society, 1636 N. Swan Rd., Suite 151, Tucson, 85712.

ROSTEK-COOLEY, Lynda K. 'Mouse', 49, of Tucson, died January 18, 1997. Preceded in death by grandparents; Paul and Ruby Sollers, Otto and Lousie Rostek; father, Don Rostek; step-father, Billie Smith; uncle, Paul Sollers, Jr.; aunt, Pauline Hill. Survived by daughter, Shannon Rose; mother, Anna C. Smith; sister, Donna Winsor; niece, Daleen (Eric) Good; great-nephew, Trenton; uncle, Clarence Hill; Troy Picarello who is like a son to Lynda; and Zeek, her favorite companion. Lynda loved life, friends and animals. She will be missed by her co-workers, family and friends. Her laughter will be in our hearts forever. Memorial Service will be held 6:00 p.m., Thursday, January 23 at Nelson C. Bledsoe Masonic Lodge, 4830 S. 6th Ave. (Northwest corner of Irvington and 6th Ave.) In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Greyhound Adoption League. SCHULTHEIS, Lawrence, 83, died January 19, 1997. Father of Gerald (Judy) Schultheis and Elizabeth (Walter) Hall, all of San Diego, CA; brother of Theresa (Pete) Palima of Cleveland, OH; uncle of Thomas Schultheis of San Diego, CA, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. Cryptside Services 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, at TMP East Lawn Mausoleum. Mr. Schultheis was a resident of Tucson since 1953; a master tool and die maker and a graduate of Ohio State University. THURMAN, Philip D., 59, of Tucson, died January 19, 1997. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 428. Survived by wife, Jan Thurman of Tucson; children, Conel Thurman and Cydnee Thurman both of Phoenix, Terri Hahn of Goodyear, AZ, and Renee Cannon of Miami, AZ; and 10 grandchildren. Memorial Service Thursday, 1:00 p.m., EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile.
