MONJE, Maria M., 89, of Tucson, passed away January 18, 1997. Survived by daughters, Alegandrina Moreno, Francisca Bracamonte; sons, Carlos Carrillo, Ramon Carrillo, Victor Carrillo, Cruz Carrillo, Alberto Monje. Also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 1997 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at TUCSON MORTUARY, (North Chapel), 204 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Wednesday, January 22, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Church, 602 W. Ajo. Interment at Holy Hope Cemetery. SIMON, Edward L., 72, of Oro Valley, AZ, died January 16, 1997. Survived by wife, Toni. Mr. Simon was a graduate of the University of Missouri (Phi Delta Theta) and was Past President of the Kiwanis Club of the Desert where he was a very active and dedicated member and he was a member of the Oro Valley Country Club. Memorial Services will be held 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 1997 at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. at Magee. Contributions may be made to the Desert Kiwanis Foundation, P.O. Box 35322, Tucson, AZ 85740 in his memory.

THAYER, Lawrence, 74, of Tucson, died January 14, 1997. He is survived by his children, Lawrence Jr, Loren, Lonnie and Lori as well as 10 grandchildren. There will be no services. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY.

BINION, Carol L., 51, of Tucson, died January 14, 1997. She is survived by daughters, Suzanne (Thomas J. Denchy, Jr) Binion and Lisa (Chad) Hammack; brother, Ronald Wicks; niece, Leah (Matt) Schindlbeck and nephew, Shaun Wicks. A Memorial Service will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. at Magee, Wednesday, January 22, 1997 at 5:30 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Haas officiating. CARTY, Frank, 71, died January 14, 1997. Husband of Geraldine Carty of Tucson; father of Karen Carty, Jeff (Susan) Carty and Joel (Barbara) Carty all of Tucson; brother of Richard Carty of FL and Mary Carty of WV; eight grandsons and one great-grandson also survive. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #2532 of Tucson and the Society For The Preservation and Encouragement Of The Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. He was a WWII Navy veteran. Memorial Service, 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 1997 at Spanish Trail Lutheran Church, 8701 E. Old Spanish Trail, with pastor Hal Hoekstra officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions to The Spanish Trail Lutheran Church would be appreciated. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

FALLON, Kathleen W., 74, died Friday, January 17, 1997 in Tucson. Survived by husband, John W. Fallon of Tucson; three daughters, Patricia Glover of Tucson, Kathleen Carbonne of Jacksonville, FL and Amy Fallon of Milford, N.H.; one son, John W. Fallon Jr. of Santa Cruz, CA; three brothers, Walter, Francis, Patrick Kilkenny; three sisters, Dorothy Morgan, Eileen McDermott and Rosemarie Weber; five grandchildren. Mass for Mrs. Fallon will be Monday, January 20, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m Sunday at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, with a Vigil service at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be at Our Lady of the Desert. Arrangements by WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. GAXIOLA, Bernardina, 97, died January 16, 1997. Preceded in death by her husband, Juan and two sons, Gus J. and Gilbert C. Survived by daughters, Gloria M. Kowren of Tucson and Alexandra Hammonds of Green Valley; 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Gaxiola was a long time resident of Bisbee before moving to Tucson in 1965. Rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 19, at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL. Mass will be offered 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 20 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 215 S. Craycroft. Burial in Holy Hope Cemetery. HUGHES, Frecia Moreno, 89, a pioneer Tucsonian with roots extending back to the times of Arizona’s territorial days, died peacefully January 15, 1997 in Tucson. Mrs. Hughes, a homemaker, who graduated from Tucson High School (Class of ’25) was married to the late William F. Hughes Jr., also a pioneer Tucsonian and a retired banker from the Southern Arizona Bank and Trust Co. Her numerous relatives were pioneers and settlers in the Old Pueblo and played key roles in developing Arizona. Her death signals a passing of and era but leaves a legacy rich in history and tradition. She was the youngest of six children born of Emilio Moreno Sr. and Rosa Gomez deMoreno and the last of her generation, having survived her sisters, Julia Velasco, Adelina Felix, Elisa Lerua; brothers, Nolberto and Emilio Moreno and was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Prudence Goulding Hughes of Tucson who died in 1966; her daughter-in-law, Lynn Spencer Hughes of Alexandra, VA who died in 1988 and her daughter, Patricia Hughes Crater of Vail, AZ who died in 1995. She is survived by her sons, Richard WM. (Carol) Hughes of Tucson and James L. Hughes of Alexandra, VA and her son-in-law, Donald V. Crater of Vail, AZ. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Ronald (Nancy) Hughes, Robin Hughes, Belen (Eric) Almquist, Tracey Hughes, Todd Hughes, Teague Hughes, Tegan Hughes, Daniel Crater, Carolyn Crater and Sherri Crater and two great-granddaughters, Shauna Zepeda and Shelbie Crater. Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 20, 1997 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1800 S. Kolb Rd. Interment to follow at the Rincon Memorial Cemetery in Vail, AZ. Rosary will be recited 7:30 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 1997 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, and friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m Sunday, January 19 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. in lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials, in memory of Frecia Hughes be sent to the Arizona Historical Society, 949 E. 2nd St. Tucson, AZ 85719 or the Rincon Memorial Cemetery Association, 8310 E. Via Arboleda, Tucson, AZ 85710.

KAEMLEIN, Wilma, 87, died January 3, 1997 in San Diego, CA. Survived by niece, Carol (John) Frederickson, nephew, Mike (Shirley) Fehner, three grandnieces and a grandnephew, all of CA. Wilma lived a full life, traveled extensively and had many friends. She earned her RN early and served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific from Jan. 1942 to Oct. 1945 where she was awarded the Bronze Star; then returned to the University of Michigan for a MA in Anthropology, and worked two summers at the U of A Point of Pines Field School. Wilma spent her 1965 sabbatical in Europe researching southwestern collections in museums, and retired from the U of A State Museum in 1975. She also spent a year with the VISTA sickle cell anemia program in Okla., chaired the Tucson Festival Society’s San Xavier Fiesta for several years, and was active in the S.A. Hiking Club, Ariz-Sonora Desert Museum, the Nature Conservancy, Western Museums Assoc., Ariz. Arch. & Hist. Soc., Red Cross Blood Bank, and the United Nations Assoc. Contributions to your favorite charity may be made in her memory. Memorial services are pending.

MALLERY, Bruce Allen, 91, died January 15, 1997 in Sarasota, FL. Mr. Mallery was born May 15, 1905 in Erie, PA. He is survived by nieces, Faith Higby, Albuquerque, NM, Eleanor Bisgrove, East Northport, NY, Kay James, Englewood, FL, Elaine Stroebel, Sherman, NY; nephew, Ronald Mallery, Quakertown, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred. She passed away June 6, 1990. Mr. Mallery lived in Tucson, Arizona, from 1945 to 1991 and has lived in FL since that time. He was a retired service station operator in Tucson. He was a member and head usher of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church for 44 years. He was also a member of the Arizona Preceptory DeMolay Legion of Honor, Scottish Rite, Lodge Council Chapter Consistory, Valley of Erie, Mount Olive Commandery No. 30, Knights Templar, Erie PA, Tyrian Lodge No. 362, F & A.M., Erie, PA. Funeral Services will be held at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 1949 E. Helen St., Monday, 5:00 p.m. Friends may view from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Church. Interment will be at South Lawn Cemetery. Local arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

MAY, Edward W., 77, Tucson, AZ and Mercer, WI, died Wednesday, January 15, 1997, Wausau, WI, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jim Sislo. He was the president of May Broadcasting Co. which formerly owned television station KGUN. Services will be held in Shenandoah, IA. Memorial donations can be made to Comfort Care and Hospice Service, Wausau Hospital, 333 Pine Ridge Blvd, Wausau, WI 54401.

PILOTE, Henry J. 'Hank' 76, of Tucson, died Thursday, January 16, 1997. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and three sisters. He is survived by his wife, Ann; sister, Dorothea Burbine; sister-in-law, Rita Pilote and many loving relatives and friends. A longtime educator. Mr. Pilote was the first principal of University High School. Mr. Pilote was a U.S. Navy World War II Veteran. He received his BA from Brown University, his MS from Springfield College and his Ph.D from Northern Arizona Univ. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, the American Order of the French Croix De Guerre and Phi Kappa Phi. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20 at St. Ann’s Convent. Interment will follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. The family requests that memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to St. Anne’s Convent, 4100 N. Sabino Canyon, Tucson, 85750. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.

ROSEMAN, Evelyn Slavin, of Tucson, died January 15, 1997. She is survived by daughter Donna (Bruce) Beyer; and granddaughters, Lisa and Amy Beyer, all of Tucson, AZ; brothers Max and Manuel Slavin, of Cleveland, OH; and numerous other family and friends. She was preceded in death by husband Lew J. Molden in 1965, and husband Frank H. Roseman 1987. She was also preceded in death by sister, Pauline Slavin; and brothers Louis and William Slavin. WOLFE, Ivan K., 15, of Tucson, found dead January 15, 1997. Survived by his mother, Rita E. Wolfe and father, J. Peter Wolfe, both of Tucson; maternal grandparents, Sol and Edith Kaminsky of New York City, NY; paternal grandmother, Marjorie Lynch of Tucson; two aunts; four uncles and several cousins. Wong Jr. and David (Teresa) Wong all of Marana, Ronald (Linda) Wong of Tucson; daughters, Frances (Raymond) Tom of Lakeside, AZ, Helen (Jerry) Dick of Los Alamos, NM and Margaret (Frank) Gee of Saratoga, CA; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Survived by wife of 47 years, Loretta Addison; daughters, Kate (Bill) Ringlelberg, Beth (Harry) Spontak and Connie Bush; sons, Steve Addison, Tom (Carolyn) Addison; 10 grandchildren, Clay, Raven, Ashley, Christy, Kellie, Courtne, Emily, Liz, John and Savannah of Tucson; one brother, Bill Addison; and nieces and nephews, all of Baton Rouge, LA. BUGG, Mildred W., 79, of Tucson, died January 11, 1997. She retired from General Motors and was a resident of Tucson for five years. Mother of, William G. (Linda) Bugg of Tucson; two grandchildren, Cindy Bugg and Katie Browning; sister of, Anna K. Wooten of Clinton, KY. A Memorial Service, Saturday, January 18, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Henry Wooten officiating at ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3435 N. 1st Ave. (888-1111).

CANNICI, Harry, Sr., 86, died January 13, 1997. Survived by wife, Della Cannici of Tucson; son, Harry Cannici, Jr. (Cheryl) of Tucson; and daughter, Kathleen Barker (Tony) of Tucson; three grandchildren, Chris DeFelice (Raschell) of Tempe, Brenda and Andrea Cannici of Tucson; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Cannici was born in Passoic, New Jersey and moved to Tucson in 1980. Mr. Cannici was a member of SPEBSQSA (Barbershop Quartet singing) and active in sports for many years.
