KERN, John H., 77, died January 13, 1997. Husband of Gay Kern; father of John M.(Michele) Kern Jr. and Gregory P. (Hao) Kern. brother of Juanita Jones. Also survived by one nephew; two nieces; 12 grandchildren two great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Stanley Taylor; sister-in-law, Billie Taylor and cousins, Wanda and Leo Heffington. Mr. Kern was a member of the Masonic Order-Scottish Rite, DAV Chapter #28 and Pipe Trades Local #741. Memorial Service, 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 1997 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 4520 W. Ajo Way, with Pastor Jeffrey Greene officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Zion Rose Garden Fund or St. Mary’s Hospices Family Center Paint Fund. KIRKA, Diane, 50, of Tucson, died January 13, 1997. Diane is beloved wife of Marty; devoted mother of Heather; caring daughter of Anne Stec; and best friend of cousin, Karen Oldenburg. Diane is a longtime dedicated employee of State Farm Insurance. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., where Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 16, with Pastor Kevin Kritzer officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Palms Cemetery. LAING, Gloria Mae, 62, died January 12, 1997 at UMC Hospital. Beloved wife of Herbert Laing of Tucson for the past 41 years; devoted mother of Kim Espino of Tempe, Tim and Anita Laing of Tucson, Dwayne and Jackie Laing of Tucson, cherished grandmother of Stephanie, Peter, Bobby, Chrissy, Ben, Jennifer and James; great-grandchildren, Devon and Antonio; dear sister of Bob and Fred Henley, Patricia Henley and Margaret Worley. Also survived by many, many friends. Funeral Services will be offered Thursday, January 16, at 10:00 a.m. at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, with Pastor Pat McClanahan will officiate. LANG, David P., 67, died January 5, 1997. Korea War Vet, former P.O.W. and U.S. Marine. No known survivors or next of kin. Cremation was January 11, 1997 and no immediate services planned. Lee of Tucson; sister, Tara (Jack) Cox of Tucson; brother, Tyre (Rachelle) Lee of Tucson; grandparents, Charles and Lillian Wood of Boulder City, NV; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. MEDEMA, Charles Edward, 81, died January 13, 1997. Husband of Adina Medema; father of Charles Stanford (Cheryl) Medema of McGee Ranch and Sharon Louise (Robert) Conine of Japan; brother of Florence E. Kraklow of Moline, Illinois, Gertrude D. Caid of Tucson, Jean (Joe) Sutton of Lake Havesu City, AZ and James D. (Millie) Medema of Homer, Alaska. Also survived by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. MORROW, Melissa B., 83, died January 13, 1997. wife of Johnnie Morrow; mother of Betty (Fred) Holly, Phyllis (Tom) Passonos, all of Benson and Richard L. (Elaine) Wirth of New Mexico; sister of Harold Woodworth of Michigan; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive. URRUTIA, Loreto Contreras, 67, a resident of Tucson, died Monday, January 13, 1997. Survived by numerous children, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. Memorial service, 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, at Capilla Del Calvario, 5170 S. Julian Dr. Arrangements by SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY.

WALSH, Edward F. Jr., an award-winning creative writer and marketing executive, died in Tucson on Saturday, January 11, 1997, after a long battle with throat cancer. Born in Palisades Park, New Jersey, he attended Columbia University and earned a degree in Management from Carnegie Institute of Technology. His skills in marketing and advertising helped save several large, struggling corporations all over the country. After his retirement last year, he continued to write and publish. He was a beloved father and grandfather and is survived by his devoted companion, Patricia Bardon Cadigan and five children, Kerry A. Stavert, Edward F. Walsh III, Robert V. Walsh, Kathleen M. Hart and Kevin A. Walsh and nine grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 1997, at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church, 4775 East Pima, Tucson. The family requests that, instead of flowers, donations be made in his name to the Carondelet Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 13170, Tucson, AZ 85732-3170.

Wife of, Howard L.; mother of, Timothy S. and Ronda Lynn Waltermire, all of Oracle, Dawn Marie Liggett of Tucson; seven grandchildren, Joseph, Timothy Jr., Dakkota, Johnny, Anthony, Jessy and Mya; daughter of, Mr. & Mrs. Warden Austin of New York; sister of, Richard Austin of PA and Gordon J. BRACKETT, James F., 81, of Glendale, retired mechanic, died January 11, 1997. Born Jordan, Montana. Survivors include: wife, Claire; daughters, Elaine Walter, Teri Parker, Lynette Wright; sons, Jeff Beaudoin, John Beaudoin, Greg Beaudoin; brother, Ralph Brackett; and eight grandchildren. CASE, Diane Anona, June 14, 1951 to January 11, 1997. Born in Tucson. Graduate of Canyon del Oro High School. Worked for the Sabino Canyon shuttle for six years.
Survived by parents, Richard and Juanita Case, Tucson; grandfather, Russell Clark Case, CA; brothers, Stephen (Leticia) Case, Tucson, and Richard (Deb) Case, NH; nieces and nephew, Gretchen, Tessa, Tanya, Caroline, and Mitchell.
Diane worked as a volunteer for Handy Dogs. She was an avid hiker and lover of the outdoors, in constant search of a new adventure. She will really be missed by her favorite hiking buddy 'Nugget'. Friends will always remember her bright eyes and contagious smile. Please join us for a memorial tram ride up Sabino Canyon, Friday, January 17 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a brief service at the summit. Reservations required. Call: 749-2327.

COINMAN, William H., passed away at home at the age of 81, in the presence of his wife Ellen, his son John, and other close members of the family. Born and raised in Elyria, OH, he served in the Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. Following his graduation from New Mexico State University, he worked for 29 years throughout New Mexico for the Farmers Home Administration of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. Bill was responsible for bringing water systems to small rural farming communities and securing federal loans for farmers in that state. He worked with a special group of individuals, who through their efforts, compassion, and education raised the standard of living for numerous communities in New Mexico. Bill and Ellen moved to Tucson in 1978 where they have been surrounded by friends and the desert they love. He has been an active volunteer with Friends of the Public Library. Bill is survived by his wife, Ellen Howenstine Coinman; his son, John (Jo Andersen) Coinman; his daughter, Penny (Norman) Saude; and his four grandchildren, Sahara, Justin, Christopher of California and Will of Tucson. Memorial donations may be made to the Howenstine School, 555 South Tucson Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85716. Memorial Services will be private.

CRAMER, Mildred, 80, of Tucson, died January 11, 1997. Preceded in death by Edwin G. Cramer, husband. Survived by Linda Butzin, Karen Kliora-Clinton, Allen Cramer, Tammi Paulson, children; Virginia Dix Mable Linder, sisters; Kenneth Hampsten, brother; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd (at Speedway), on Tuesday, January 14, at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.

DAVIS, Clarence Eldon, 82, was invited into the presence of our Lord on Saturday, January 11, 1997. Preceded in death by wife, Lois Rude Davis. Survived by beloved wife, Helen Kyle-Davis; sons, Robert (Marlene) Davis, Tempe, AZ, Douglas (Betty) Davis; daughter, Lynn (Larry) Geyer; step-son, Greg (Amy) Kyle of Tucson, AZ; sister, Bernice Storm of Prescott, AZ; 25 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Retired from Arizona Public Service Company (APS) after 30 years of service; served as chaplain to APS Retirement Association for 10 years. Member of BPOE #385. Enlisted and served in the Naval Construction Battalion during WWII. Clarence was a wonderful, giving, gentle man of God whose life was a daily witness of his abiding faith in his Savior. A celebration of his life will be held at Foothills Community Church, 3301 W. Overton Road, Tucson, AZ on Wednesday, January 15 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jon Farmer officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to Foothills Community Church will bless his memory. Arrangements by ADAIR AVALON CHAPEL.
