DURKIN, John Joseph, 66, died January 6, 1997. Born January 28, 1930. John was a well known real estate broker for many years. John will be remembered by his family and friends for his great sense of humor and incredible knowledge of the world. He will also be remembered for his strength and courage in fighting his overwhelming illnesses over the past few years. FETTERHOFF, Charles R., 84, a 21 year resident of Tucson, passed away January 5, 1997. Born June 20, 1912 in Indiana. Mr. Fetterhoff was a Navy Veteran of World War II. A member of the Rotary Club and American Legion Post #102. In retirement he and his wife became avid hikers. PHELAN, Rev. Reginald L., a retired priest of the Diocese of Tucson, died Wednesday, January 1, 1997 in Tucson after a long illness. Father Phelan gave faithful priestly service in the Diocese of Tucson from 1974 until his retirement for health reasons in 1991. He was born on October 15, 1922 in Morell, Prince Edward Island, Canada, to the late Ambrose and Melvina Stewart Phelan. He attended St. Dunstan’s University in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island before entering the Grand Seminary of Montreal. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Charlottetown on June 17, 1951. He received a Licentiate in Theology from the University of Strasbourg in 1974. Father Phelan served in a number of parishes in the Diocese of Charlottetown before beginning his priestly ministry in the Diocese of Tucson in 1974. His assignments included: associate pastor at SS. Peter and Paul Parish, Tucson; chaplain at St. Mary’s Hospital, Tucson; associate pastor at St. Ambrose Parish, Tucson; administrator at St. Bernard Parish, Pirtleville and associate pastor at St. Odilla Parish, Tucson. Father Phelan was pastor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Many Parish in Florence from 1981 to 1989. He served as pastor at Sacred Heart Parish in Clifton from 1989 to 1990. Father Phelan is survived by two sisters, Elvina Sullivan and Evelyn Sharkey of Charlottetown and a brother, Ernest Phelan of Lindsey, Ontario. The Funeral Mass will be Friday, January 10, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral, concelebrated by the Most Rev. Manuel D. Moreno, Bishop of Tucson and priests of the Diocese of Tucson. REICH, Molly, 87, died January 5, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband Hyman Reich. Survived by son, Sheldon Reich of Tucson; and daughter, Frances Griffith of Los Angeles; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Reich was born in New York City September 9, 1909. She worked in a graphic design company in New York as a typesetter and office manager. Mrs. Reich will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.

RUHL, Robert Calvin, 88, of Tucson, passed away January 6, 1997. Survived by wife, Virginia; children, Sharon Des Rosiers, Judith (Cris) O’Neill, Philip (Nina-Clare) Ruhl; grandchildren, Claire (Chris) Tasev, Adele (F. Robert) Rivard, Marie Des Rosiers and Ian O’Neill. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son-in-law, Paul Des Rosiers. Mr. Ruhl graduated from Purdue University in 1932. He began his career as a professor of Civil Engineering at Indiana Institute of Technology in 1934. Eventually rising to the position of Dean of Engineering. BEIGEL, Gisela, 95, born on September 19, 1901 in Vienna, Austria, died on January 4, 1997 in Tucson, AZ. Gisela Beigel left Vienna with her family in 1939 after the invasion of Hitler. She settled in Northern California where she worked as a state employee until her retirement. Known for her lively intellect, she was an accomplished linguist, a painter and an award winning photographer. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Alfred, Simon and Rudolph; and nephew, Allan Beigel. She is survived by her sister, Alma Bottigheimer; and sister-in-law, Genie Beigel, both of Cincinnati, OH; nephew, Herbert; and great-nieces, Jennifer, Jill, Eliana and Micaela Beigel. She graduated from Mary Washington College in Virginia and worked as an Administrative Assistant Bee Lab at the U.S. offices in Tucson, AZ for 19 years.
