JACKSON, Dorothy Voss, born September 11, 1917 died on January 4, 1997. She was the daughter of Ralph and Dorothy Arneson, and raised in Madison, Wisconsin where she attended East High School and the University of Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Marjorie Paynter and her first husband, E.J. Voss. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, William Jackson; her daughter, Barbara (Bradley) Armstrong; son, E. John (Kristine) Voss and seven grandchildren, Brett, Bryce and Bryan Armstrong, Jonathan, Daniel, Tina and Anders Voss. Small in stature, she was a women of great courage and integrity, successful in the business world, a working woman long before it became the trend, and devoted wife and mother. The family will celebrate her life with a catered reception at Handmaker Nursing Home, 2221 Rosemont Blvd. on Tuesday, January 7 at 3:30 p.m. All past and present nursing assistants and nurses are invited to attend. The family will hold an open house for family and friends Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. A ceremony of Christian burial will occur at a later date. KWADER, Retired Arizona Air National Guard Lt. Col Stanley J., 49, whose call sign was 'Darth' died January 4, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Ellie and daughters, Dr. Dawn Walker, D.O., (Joe) of Mesa; Tiffany, presently studying in Central America; his granddaughter, Antoinette Marie Walker of Mesa; his mother, Patricia Gorman and stepfather, Charles Gorman of New Jersey. Other relatives include his sister-in-laws, Betsy Abril (Bobby) of Tucson, Terry Belschner (Dick) of Florida; brother-in-law, Freddie Schwartz (Melinda) of Texas; his in-laws, Bernie and Fred Schwartz of CT. He was preceded in death by his brother, Timmy Cronen and stepfathers, Jim Cronen and Carmen Carleo. Stanley was a 1964 graduate of Seton Hall Preparatory High School, South Orange, N.J. He was attending Seton Hall University when he was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1968. He later earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Psychology and Guidance Counseling from Troy State University and from Northern Colorado University. Colonel Kwader began his military career as a U.S. Army Warrant Officer and 'Chinook' helicopter pilot, attaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer II for the 101st Airborne Division based in Phu Bia, Vietnam. In 1972 he transferred into the U.S. Air Force, trained at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas and at Craig Air Force Base near Selma, Ala. In 1974 he was transferred to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base where he served as an instructor pilot in the A-7D 'Corsair II' aircraft. From 1979 to 1981 he flew for Continental Airlines. Afterward, he joined the Arizona Air National Guard in Tucson flying as a full-time A-7 instructor pilot, then as an F-16 instructor pilot until his retirement in January 1994. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross with three oak leaf clusters (OLC), the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Air Medal with 13 OLC, the Army Commendation Medal, the Air Force Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with three OLC, the Vietnam Service Medal with three OLC, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with device, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Arizona Meritorious Service Medal and the Southwest Asia Service Support Ribbon. The family wishes to thank the medical support staff at the Tucson VA Medical Center, especially those in Ward 3E, MIC and Hospice for their loving care. Also, their supportive friends in the Arizona Air National Guard, and St. Joseph School and Parish for their prayers and outpouring of love and support. LAUDERBACK, Dorothy Ann, 64, of Tucson, passed away on January 3, 1997. Survived by husband, Robert 'Bob' Lauderback, their two sons, Greg Lauderback of Tucson and Michael and wife, Bertha Lauderback of Mesa; grandchildren, Slade, 15 and Ashley, 12 of Mesa; mother, Genevieve Porter of Tucson; sisters, Polly Armstrong of Wichita, Kansas, Jennylynn Bouziden of Tucson; nieces and nephews and many other family members. Born and raised in Enid, Oklahoma, Dorothy married and moved to Tucson with her husband and children in 1969. She attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma and graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas. Throughout her life she worked in the health care field and was an active member in the Daughters of the American Revolution, El Presidio Chapter. Loving wife, mother will be greatly and dearly missed. LEEHAN, Rev. Patrick, C.Ss.R., 75, died in Oakland, California, on December 29, 1996. From the early 1980's 'Padre Patricio' was the friend of great numbers of Central American refugees in Southern Arizona and the San Francisco Bay Area. During those years his ministry also took him to Chiapas, El Salvador, and Guatemala (where the peace accord was signed on the day of his death.) In the Bay Area he was relentlessly active on a wide range of justice and peace issues, identifying himself as a 'peace advocate.'There will be a Memorial Mass for Father Pat at Picture Rocks Retreat, 7101 W. MACDONALD, Paul, was born in Evanston, IL on June 30, 1925 and died in Tucson on January 5, 1997. He graduated from Northern Illinois University and Columbia and started his career teaching English at Farleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. He then became administrator and museum curator of USGA in Far Hills, New Jersey, Paul then joined the Dunlop Tire and Rubber Co. as Vice President of sales in the company sports division. He served as the president of the Golf Club Manufacturer’s Association, the Golf Ball Manufactures Association, and the National Golf Foundation. He has been a member of the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, NY, Wanakah Country Club in Buffalo and was an active member at the Ventana Golf and Racquet Club. In 1995 Paul proudly received the prestigious Grainger Award given to him by the USGA for many years of volunteer service. Paul MacDonald is survived by his wife, Joan; two daughters; and two grandchildren; and two brothers and a sister. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 9 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church. OIEN, Margaret D., 96, passed away December 27, 1996. Preceded in death by husband Theodore, son Burton and son Dixon who died in infancy. SHIFF, Howard A., 70, of Tucson, died January 5, 1997. Survived by wife of 47 years, Beverly F. Shiff of Tucson; daughters, Suzanne Shiff of CA, L. Stephanie Shiff, Sally N. Shiff; and son, Sanford N. (Anne) Shiff, all of Tucson; sister, Frances Shiff Kopp of Ohio. Born in Brooklyn, NY on November 6, 1926, a Tucson resident since 1941, he graduated Tucson High School class of 1944 and alumni of the University of Arizona, where he proudly played on the undefeated 1945 football team. When WWII called he joined the Army and attended Oregon State University where he majored in Civil Engineering. Upon return from the service, he re-entered the U of A and continued his engineering studies. Howard and his brother, Murray, began Shiff Construction Company and were instrumental in the rapid development of Tucson. Their many projects include Kitt Peak National Observatory, the Tucson International Airport, the entire town of Kearny, AZ, many local schools, shopping centers, banks and churches. His fondest projects were the participation in the Apollo Moon Project in which Shiff Construction was contracted to build a test stand for the rocket used for the escape vehicle for the lunar capsule, in White Sands, NM, and then the vertical assembly buildings for the second stage of the Saturn Rocket in Seal Beach, CA. His professional career then shifted to Insurance where he thrived for the next 25 years until retirement. He worked as a life underwriter for Midland Mutual Life, and was named agent of the year as well as receiving numerous other awards throughout his insurance career. He founded Howard Shiff & Associates, Ltd. and successfully built the brokerage, which continues today. Howard was a builder, the son of a builder, a generous, compassionate father, a teacher, a creative force who willingly shared his genius to all who were lucky enough to have known him. Locally, he actively and tirelessly served the community; he chaired the Tucson Boards of Adjustment, Planning and Zoning, and the Tucson Community Center. He helped found the Ronald McDonald House, and recently worked with the Copper Bowl Foundation. He served on the boards of many, many more charitable and civic organizations, especially as a member of Lions International for over 35 years, serving two terms as president of the Tucson Breakfast Lions Club (TBLC), in addition to his statewide and international humanitarian efforts through Lionism. His proudest achievement was to help start the Lions Eye Research Center, located on the U of A campus, which has helped thousands. Service Tuesday, 2:00 p.m., EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, N. STALONS, Rev. E. L., 82, of Tucson. Rev. Stalons has now entered into his heavenly home after being a faithful pastor, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved to study the Bible and go to church. He is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God for 59 years, and pastored churches in Missouri, Illinois, and Tucson.
