GREEN, Betty L., 68, passed away November 25, 1996 following a long and courageous battle with kidney failure and severe diabetic problems. Betty was well known and respected for her integrity and fairness in the field of Real Estate. There are many young men and women who were in her Cub Scout and Girl Scout troops who are much better person to have been guided and given good values to live by and pattern themselves after. She is survived by her loving husband, Roy E. Green; son, Rodger A. Green of Lincoln, NE; daughters, Debra K. Johnson and Vicki Fisher of Tucson; two loving adopted sons, Ernest Roy Green and Jesse Ray Green, also of Tucson. Also survived by five grandchildren who will also miss her very deeply. MITCHELL, Hamilton Barnes 'Ham', of Tucson, AZ and Castine, ME, died suddenly on Wednesday, December 4, 1996. He is survived by wife, Betty; sons, John H. (Margaret) of Scarborough, ME and Thomas W. of Tucson, AZ; brother, Marshall W. (Thetis) of Atlanta, GA and grandchildren, Jeffery H., Linda A., Laura L. and Julie A. He was preceded in death by son, William B. and sister, Jane M. Golly. Hamilton was born August 13, 1916, in La Grange, IL to Gertrude and Herbert Mitchell. He attended Loomis and Dartmouth College. Upon graduation from Dartmouth, he attended the University of Michigan Law School. He joined the Chicago, IL branch of the R.H. Donnelley Company as a sales and management trainee in 1939. He was with the Chicago branch until 1945, when he moved to Pelham, N.Y. and served in the New York office. He progressed to vice president and Eastern Marketing Manager in 1954. He became president of the company in 1961. At that time, he moved back to Chicago until 1962, when R.H. Donnelly became subsidiary of the Dun and Bradstreet Corp. He then moved to Rye, N.Y. and was elected president and CEO of Dun and Bradstreet in 1968. He was named Chairman of the Board in 1972, a position he held until his retirement in 1975. He continued to serve on the board of directors until 1986. He also served on the boards of Union Pacific Railroad, North American Phillips and Irving Trust. In 1964, he received and Honorary Doctorate from Bryant College in Providence, R.I. At the time of his death, he served on the Margaret Chase Smith Library Advisory Board in Skowhegan, ME and was a member of Blind Brook, Apawamis, Tucson National and Castine, ME Golf Clubs. Memorial Services will be held Monday, December 9, 1996 at St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4440 N. Campbell Ave. at 2:00 p.m., with Reverend Roger O. Douglas officiating. ANDREE, Verlin, 81, of Tucson, died December 3, 1996. Survivors include: her daughter, Suzette (Kirk) Brookshier; son, Skip (Ann) Andree; grandchildren, Gary, Michael, Randy (Tara) Brookshier, Jeff (Tina) Brookshier, Michelle Andree, John Paul Andree; four great-grandchildren, Joe, Scott, Brenden, and April; and one brother, Hisey Harris of Arkansas. Mrs Andree opened up her first beauty shop, Andree’s Beauty Salon, with her husband Vitold, during the 40's in the Broadway Village. Later opening the first beauty shop in the Casas Adobes Shopping Center and one location at Broadway and Longfellow. In her later years, Verlin enjoyed expressing herself through canvas and china painting until arthritis prevented her from doing that which she loved the most. In spite of the pain she experienced, her loving smile and positive attitude will be greatly missed by all of us. Memorial Services will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. COOPER, Lillian M., 89, born in Liverpool, England, November 6, 1907, died in Tucson, Arizona at Harmony House Adult Care Home, December 5, 1996. She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Lloyd of Tucson; daughters, Patricia Gafa of San Diego, CA, Mary of Tucson; sons, Phillip of Redding, CA and Timothy of Pleasant Ridge, Michigan. Lillian is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Always the optimist, cheerful, with never an unkind word to say, Lillian loved nature, feeding the birds and tending to her yard. Lillian enjoyed her association with Tucson estates art group. DICK, James Robert 'Jim', was born December 21, 1925 in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, and died in his home in Tucson, Arizona on December 4, 1996. For 33 years Jim was a teacher in TUSD, with most of that time spent at Palo Verde High School as head of the Social Studies Department. Jim and his wife, Helen (Robbie) were the catalysts, in Tucson, for Citizen Diplomacy with the Soviet Union. Their unofficial diplomatic ventures into the so-called 'evil empire' brought many visitors from the USSR to Tucson, resulted in Tucson having a Sister City in the former Soviet Union (Alma Ata, Kazakhstan), and ultimately contributed to the collapse of the Iron Curtain. Jim is survived by his wife, Robbie; three sons, Dana, Kirby and Dallas; three daughters-in-law, Rita, Barbara and Jean; six grandchildren; a brother, Don; two sisters, Lucille Franklin and Joyce Johnson; and thousands of students and friends who have been touched by his compassion and love. Jim’s Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 14 at 2:00 p.m., at Saint Francis in the Foothills United Methodist Church, 4625 E. River Road. A party celebrating Jim’s life will follow immediately. An outdoor Performing Arts Center, located at Saint Francis in the Foothills, will serve as a lasting memorial to Jim’s keen interest in The Arts. HARRIS, Isabelle B., of Tucson, died November 24, 1996. Ms. Harris was born in California, Pennsylvania on September 11, 1896, a daughter of James M. and Alice Harris. She was graduated from California Normal School (later California University of Pennsylvania) in 1914 with a teaching degree. She taught in Perryopolis and Newell, Pennsylvania prior to her position as a music and English teacher in Carrick High School, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She furthered her education at many schools, including the University of Munich, Germany, University of Michigan and the University of Pittsburgh where she earned her MA degree. She retired from teaching in 1953 and settled in Tucson, Arizona where she and her life-long friend, C. Gloria Paul, established the Paul-Harris Travel Agency. Ms. Harris retired from this business in the early eighties. She is survived by a brother, James A. Harris of Frankfort, Michigan; a sister, Mildred Conaway of Milton, Florida; and 20 nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents; brothers, Joseph and George of California, Pennsylvania and Oliver of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; sisters, Eva Inks of Dawson, Pennsylvania, Margaret McCain and Mary Emelo of California, Pennsylvania. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in California, Pennsylvania and more recently, a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Tucson, Arizona. Ms. Harris was active in musical societies in the Tucson area, such as the Tucson Women’s Symphony Association and donated a pipe organ to the University of Arizona which was dedicated at Holsclaw Recital Hall on October 30, 1994. Ms. Harris was also very active in Hospitality International, now known as Tucson Council for International Visitors, which hosts international visitors, and was their Treasurer for many years. Tucson Council for International Visitors works with the U.S. Information Agency. Memorial Service will be Saturday, December 7, 1996 at 11:00 a.m. at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2450 E. KALAHAR, Thomas 'Tom' 50, of Tucson, passed away December 4, 1996. Survived by wife, Pat Kalahar; daughters, Nichole (Ed) Owen and Crystal Kalahar.
