CONINGSBY, Alice Taylor (Nee Brenckle) of Tucson, AZ, died March 12, 1997, age 89 years. Beloved wife of the late Mark Taylor and Art Coningsby. Dear mother of Wanda Stoops and Frances Alier and a loving grandmother. Also survived by her sister, Marian McConochie; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Daughter of the late Arthur and Helen Brenckle and sister of the late Genevieve Jewel and William Brenckle. Alice grew up in Milwaukee, WI, and graduated from Downer College (Lawrence College). She served her country as a U.S. Navy Wave during World War II. She then became head dietitian of Chester Public Schools in PA, until her retirement to Tucson. The family would like to thank Handmaker’s for giving Alice care and dignity the last two years and Dr. David Smith for spiritual support; and to give special thanks to Alice’s dear friend, Dottie Pate, for her love and loyalty. Through her life Alice touched many lives and she will be dearly missed. A Memorial Service will be held April 9, 1997 at 1:30 in the afternoon at Casa Adobes Congregational Church, 6801 N Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ 85704, (520-297-1181). FORSBERG, Margery L., 84, passed away at her home in Tucson, Arizona, on March 12, 1997. She was born December 16, 1912, in Dayton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert A. Forsberg. Mrs. Forsberg spent many years in Madison, Wisconsin, where she was very active in Attic Angels, the Madison Symphony, and the Presbyterian Church Guild before retiring with her husband to Tucson. She leaves behind six children: Anne (Larry) Stuart, Sue (John) Bryant, Chuck Forsberg, Chris (Tom) French, Connie (Sandy) McClure and Adele (Randy) Thompson. She leaves behind 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The family requests that any donations be to your favorite charity. There are to be no services.

LEATHERWOOD, Allen N., 85 years, passed on March 13, 1997, peacefully at home. Survived by daughters, Lela S. (John) Lesson and Ruth J. Leatherwood; grandchildren, Kimberly D. Lesson, Michele A. (Jody) Babiash and John Allen Lesson, his namesake; great-granddaughters, Dakota and Sierra Babiash; sister, Violet Vlock;sister-in-law, Mary J. Overly and brother-in-law, George Overly, also other family and friends in the Columbus Ohio area. Born April 11, 1911 in Columbus, spent his childhood in 'The Hills' of Ross Country. He worked as a water well driller and retired from the City of Tucson in April 1977.Married Helen L. (Overly) December of 1941 who predeceased him in June of 1995. He will be laid to rest beside her at South Lawn Cemetery. Former member of Thomas Ave. Church of Christ in Columbus, Sunnyside Christian Church, Mountain View Christian Church and Park Avenue Christian Church in Tucson. He was a Christian man who lived by God’s rules, a man of few words, but a big heart. He was never a man to sit idle. He was a foster parent to many children in Columbus and Tucson. PERLMAN, Nathan David 'Nate', 85, of Tucson, formerly of Denver and Ann Arbor, MI, died March 16, 1997. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth I. Perlman; daughters, Julie Perlman of Denver, Nancy Perlman (Tom Klingenstein) of New York City, NY; son, David (Elisa) Perlman of Ann Arbor, MI; grandchildren, Jeff Greenblatt of CO, Andrew (Robin) Greenblatt of CA, Mitch Greenblatt of NY, Hannah Perlman of MI, Anna Rose Klingenstein and Sophie Klingenstein, both of NY; great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Greenblatt of CA; many nieces and nephews and many friends around the world. Mr. Perlman was a founder of the Jewish Community Center, served on the Board of Directors of the Tucson Art Museum, he supported the Tucson Peace Center, The Arizona Theater Company, the Invisible Theater, and other community organizations. MURPHY, James M., a native Tucsonan and lawyer, died March 12, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Billie; and sons, James (Grace), Thomas (Chris) and Richard (Kim) and five grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, James, Joseph and Patrick. James was born in Tucson in 1917 and his grandparents were an early pioneer family who came to Tucson in 1880. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Martin and Bridget Duffy and his parents, Alice and James S. Murphy; also his aunts, Harriet Murphy, Mary Collins, Myrtle Duffy and Catherine Foy (the five Duffy sisters for whom the Duffy school was named). James was educated at St. Joseph Academy, Tucson High School, University of Notre Dame and had a Juris Doctor’s degree from the University of Arizona law school. He served three years in the F.B.I then became a legal officer in Guam for the Navy during World War II. Returning to Tucson in 1946, he was Deputy County Attorney until he joined the oldest law firm in Tucson in 1967, Conner and Jones. He later started his own law firm, Murphy, Goering and Roberts, where he practiced law until his retirement in 1991. James was extremely active in the Tucson Community, serving as Chairman of the Board of Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital for eight years, as Counsel to the Catholic Diocese of Tucson and as President of the Old Pueblo Club. He was President of the Arizona Historical Society for eight years and helped guide that organization both as officer and Counselor. It was during his tenure that the present Arizona Historical Society building was built. He was President of the Pima County Bar Association, the State Bar of Arizona and served as a director of the American Bar Association. He was the Arizona Bar Association delegate for the first joint meeting of the American Bar Association and the English Bar Association, held in London in 1957. It was during his Presidency of the Pima County Bar that the first committee of lawyers and doctors were formed to hold hearings on medical law suits before they were filed to try to eliminate frivolous law suits. He also served as a lecturer on business law at the University of Arizona. James served as President of the Tucson Airport Authority during its big expansion period. He and Bunny Fontana were the instigators for the renovation of San Xavier group which has raised money and supervised the funds for the renovation of San Xavier Mission. James was extremely interested in Southwestern History and wrote a book entitled 'Spanish Legal Heritage in Arizona' which is now in the rare book list. He also wrote a book which was published by the University of Arizona press entitled 'Law, Courts and Lawyers' which was a history of the Arizona State Bar and its colorful characters. He was a member of the Arizona Academy, Arizona Catholic Conference, Arizona-Mexico Commission, Southwest Mission Research Center (board member), Editorial Board of Western Legal History and Tucson Corral of Westerners. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be sent to Patronada San Xavier, P.O. Box 522, Tucson, Arizona 85702 for restoration of the mission. Burial service will be private and a memorial mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 5150 North Valley View Road at 12:00 noon Saturday, March 15, 1997.
MYERS, Lucille, age 95 years, of Tucson, passed March 6, 1997. Survived by daughter, Dorothy Cooke, Calif.; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Martha Jean Martin of Calif; many nieces and nephews.
