GASH, Bonnie Kay, age 53, died February 19, 1997 at Elko General Hospital. She was born March 22, 1943 in Conneaut, Ohio to Carl and Virginia Samuelson. She was raised and schooled in Ohio and Pennsylvania, graduating from High School in Erie, Pennsylvania. married Denney Gash on August 9, 1971 in Tucson, Arizona. She then moved to Battle Mountain, Nevada and lived there for 11 years before moving to Elko, Nevada in 1986. She was employed at Donuts N More in Elko for eight years, before devoting herself to her battle with cancer. She was a member of the Elko Women’s Bowling League. Bonnie is survived by: mother, Virginia Honeyman of Tucson, Arizona; husband, Denney Gash of Elko, Nevada; son, Dan Richardson of Elko; daughters, Donna McGregor of Elko, Jennifer Gash of Elko; five grandsons. Bonnie was preceded in death by her father, Carl Samuelson. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 24, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home Chapel, in Elko. Cremation will follow at Sunset Crematory in Elko, Rev. Whitney Dempsey of the First Presbyterian Church of Elko will be officiating.

GOGOLA, Francis P., 78, of Tucson, died February 18, 1997. Survivors include his loving companion and caretaker, Peggy Sage of Tucson; one brother, Eddie (Elsie) Gogola; one sister-in-law, Sue Gogola all of Yonkers, NY, plus numerous relatives in NY, Calif. and Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Anne Ferine Gogola. Three of his four years of military service was spent in the Aleutian Islands. After returning from the service to Yonkers, NY, he and his wife moved to Tucson in 1950. Frank was a life member of VFW Post #10188 and DAV and a member of American Legion Post #36. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), Sunday, February 23, 1997 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 24, 1997 with interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.

GRUVER, M.D., Frank A., 63, of Tucson, died February 15, 1997 of complications from diabetes. Born in Memphis, TN on March 18, 1933. Son of Frank and Berniece Gruver. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Jo; two sons, Jeffrey, Tokyo, Japan and Michael, Tucson; one aunt, Connie, La Mesa, CA. A Memorial service will be held at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 9252 E. 22nd St. on Monday, February 24, at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Gruver graduated from Albuquerque High School and the University of New Mexico. After completing medical school at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City in 1959, he practiced medicine for two years in Victoria, TX. In 1962, he was granted a P.A.R.S. Fellowship from the Rockefeller Foundation which gave him the opportunity to study for one year at Union Theological Seminary, New York, NY. From 1963 to 1966, he was Medical Director of Student Health Services for Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN. Completing his residency in Psychiatry from the University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock, he and his wife moved to Tucson in 1969 where he began private practice in his specialty. In 1981, the family moved to Temple, TX where Dr. Gruver was Associate Professor and Deputy Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry, Texas A&M University College of Medicine. Returning to Tucson in 1989, he again entered private practice. From 1991 to 1995 he was Medical Director of Community Mental Health, Raymond W. Bliss Hospital, Ft. Huachuaca, AZ. During his practice of medicine in Tucson, he had numerous positions serving on the Executive Committee of Wilmot Psychiatric Hospital, head of the department of Psychiatry, St. Joseph’s Hospital and member of the board of directors of the Pima County Health Planning Council. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and remembered for his great love and compassion for others. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Arizona Children’s Home or the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements by ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL.

LEON, Caesar M., 19, of Tucson, passed away February 18, 1997. Survived by grandparents, Juan and Jessie Montiel, Jose and Filomena Leon; parents, Arnulfo H. Leon and Sylvia M. Leon; sister, Celina M. Leon. Also survived by nephew and Godson, Jesus R. Leon and Goddaughter, Jessica D. Godoy and many aunts and uncles, Juan M. Montiel, Amelia (Jesus) Encinas, Cecilia (Inez) Salinas, Frances Montiel, Patsy (Miguel) Lopez, Joe (Juanita) Leon, Ruben (Gay) Leon, Eva (Manny) Carpio, Irma (Frank) Lopez and many cousins, also survived by many friends. Visitation will be held Monday, February 24, 1997 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO’S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Tuesday, February 25, 1997 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone. Arrangements by CARRILLO’S TUCSON MORTUARY, INC.

MUNOZ “Wimpy', Eleazar J., of Tucson, died February 20, 1997. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Estella. He is survived by his loving companion and dance partner, Aina G. Wright; son, Cris Munoz (Dr. Bob Henry) of Louisville, KY; daughters, Dolores Ramirez, Cecilia (John) Escobedo and Annie Raun. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Victor, Veronica and Vincent Ramirez and Ysabela and Nathan Escobedo, along with many other relatives and a host of friends. He was descendant of the Otero family, he was born in Nogales, Arizona on December 26, 1925 and moved to Tucson as a small child. 'Wimpy' served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. As a Civil Engineer, he worked for the Corps of Engineers for several years, eventually retiring from Sundt Corporation in 1987. He was currently working for Lee Myers as an Inspector for the City of Tucson on construction projects. He truly loved being a professional Civil Engineer. He was devoted to his family and he loved his dancing. An avid Square and Round dancer and clogger, 'Wimpy' left a smile on the face of every person who knew him. Like the small birds he so loved to watch, he 'hummed' with energy, vitality and fun. His mischievous spirit will always be remembered. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations for the Hummingbird enclosure at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum would be appreciated. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), on Sunday, February 23 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Services will be at ADAIR on Monday, February 24 at 1:00 with graveside services to follow at Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery. PALMER, Gene A., 64, of Tucson, died February 18, 1997. Survived by wife, Carol; children, Zandra, Zina, Gene II and Maury all of WA; step-children, Robert and Rose; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Palmer was a member of DAV #2, VFW Post 549 and of the Chosen Few. Funeral Service, 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 24 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S. Park Ave. Interment South Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

ROMERO, Antonio M., age 67, born May 25, 1929 took God’s Hand February 20, 1997. Preceded in death by his son, David J.Romero; brothers, Jesus Arturo and Juan Romero. Survived by loving wife, Alice B. Romero; mother, Guadalupe M. Romero; children, Mary Romero, Lori (John) Carter; grandchildren, Tony (Angela) Romero, Leah Prentice, Melissa, Amanda, Samantha, John, John Carter; sisters, Eva Flores, Francis (Robert) Sandoval, Clara (Jesus) Vargas; brothers, Mike, David William, Allen Donald Romero, all of Tucson; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 23, 1997 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO’S TUCSON MORTUARY, (North Chapel), 204 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Monday, February 24, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Church, 602 W. Ajo Way. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery.

SCHAMPER, Margaret E., 90, of Tucson, passed away February 20, 1997. Survived by brother, George (Marguerite) Burger of Tucson; sister, St. Matthew of Baden, PA; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brother, Thomas and sister, Anna Felix. Prior moving to Arizona Mrs. Schamper worked for ABC Radio in New York. She was an honorary member and past president of Columbiettes Our Lady of the Lake Council and past president of Ladies of Most Holy Trinity Church. A Rosary will be recited Sunday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1300 N. Greasewood Rd. Funeral Mass will be Monday, February 24 at 1:00 p.m. at Most Holy Trinity Church. Interment in Holy Hope Cemetery. Arrangements by ARIZONA MORTUARY.

SLIVA, Kathleen 'Casey' 60, of Tucson, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 1997. She is survived by husband, Kenneth A. Sliva; children, Kimberly and her husband, Kenneth Murphy, Kelley Sliva, Karie and her husband, Chuck Taylor and Kevin Sliva; grandchildren, Mariah, Meredith and Michael Murphy; father, Melvin Cosgro. Casey was born in Miami, Arizona. She graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Tucson, AZ. Throughout her life, Casey was deeply committed to serving children with special needs and their families. She was one of the founders of the Tucson preemie project. She worked in the Arizona early intervention program. Casey was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and a dear friend to many. Her energy was boundless which she gave freely to all. Casey will be remembered for this energy, her ability to give and her unforgettable smile. A mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 1997 at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church, 4725 East Pima Street, Tucson, AZ. In lieu of flowers family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Casey’s Children Fund the Center for the Family, 662 North Craycroft, Tucson, AZ 85711. SMITH, William A. 'Dick' 78, a native of Tucson, passed away February 18, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Hazel (Erickson) Smith; children, Nancy (James Hermann) Chaney of Scottsdale, Marjorie (John) Spencer of Tucson and Craig (Regina) Smith of Yuma; sister, Lucy Mills of Wilcox and nine grandchildren. During World War II Dick served with the U.S. Marines Corps in the South Pacific. He retired from Lily Ice Cream Co. in 1980. Memorial Services will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 23. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arizona Historical Society.

STEPHENS, Helen Marie, 78, of Tucson, died Wednesday, February 19, 1997. Survived by son, Gary R. Stephens of Tucson; brother, Virgil V. McClure of St. Louis, MO; daughter-in-law, Barbara E. Stephens; grandson, Jeffrey R. (Kim) Stephens; granddaughter, Kecia Lynne (John) Holman; great-granddaughter, Adrianna Alyssia Stephens, all of Tucson; sister-in-law, Rose McClure of Columbia, MO. Funeral service, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 22 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S. Park Ave. Interment in South Lawn Cemetery, Pastor David Houchin of 22nd Street Baptist Church officiating. ARNOLD, Virginia G., 71, beloved mother and grandmother entered into rest February 1, 1987. Preceded in death by husband, Doyle E. (Eddy) Arnold. Isaac Roberts; grandchildren, Lori, Jessica, April; great-grandchildren, Justine, Luis, Brittany, Dakota, Tristan.

AZAR, George J. 'Papa George' 68, of Tucson, died February 19, 1997. Survivors include: wife of 41 years, Norma of Tucson; son, George (Susan) Azar, Tucson; daughter, Andrea (Jerry) Elliott of Tucson; brother, William Azar, Detroit, MI; grandchildren, Michael Elliot, Andy and Brendon Scott. Mr. Azar was the owner of the Cedars Lounge on Speedway for many years. He was deeply loved by his family and will be missed by his many friends. Memorial will be at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 1997. Interment will be private. BUMPS, Frances Edith, 94, passed away on February 18, 1997, at her home in Tucson. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy I. McKee and Marjorie E. Bumps and is survived by her niece, Jean M. Blackwell; her grandnephew, Forest M. Blackwell and his wife, Elizabeth and their children, Cameron and Emily Jean, all of Tucson. Frances was born in Detroit, Michigan December 11, 1902. She was employed in Detroit by the Hearst Organization and in Indianapolis by the Overhead Door Corp. Retiring to Tucson in 1965, she enjoyed studying art and traveling to Europe. Services will be private. Friends may make memorial donations to the Tucson Humane Society, 3405 N. CLARK, James Jr., 83, of Tucson, died February 20, 1997. Survived by son, Bruce (Marianne) Clark of Tucson; daughter, Annie Smedberg of IN. Preceded in death by wife, Bertha Clark. Mr. Clark served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of B.P.O.E. Lodge #385 in Tucson, life member VFW Post #2640 and member of Masonic Lodge #259 in New Jersey. GREENHOLT, Henry David, born November 13, 1908 in North York, PA, died February 18, 1997. Son of the late Curtis and Fannie (Green) Greenholt; husband of Grace Day Greenholt. He attended William Penn Senior High School in York, PA. He served during WWII with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre and in China. He retired from active duty after 21 years of service with the rank of Printer 2nd class. He was employed by Arizona Daily Star after being in charge of the composing room for 21 years. He belonged to the Fleet Reserve Association and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. In addition to his wife, he is survived by nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 22, 1997, 11:00 a.m. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. at Magee. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
