BOWDISH, Margaret E., 79, died January 31, 1997. Mother of Denise Bowdish (Ricardo) and Roger Daniel. Mrs Bowdish was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Theodore Richter Bowdish, USAF. Memorial service 11:00 am. Saturday, February 8 at Christ Presbyterian Church, 6565 E. Broadway, with Pastor Steve Melde officiating. She was one of the original founding members of the Let’s Dance Club of Tucson and a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She will be missed by friends and all of her dance partners. CHALMERS, William L. Harrison, of Tucson, passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on January 28, 1997. Born to a Santa Cruz county pioneer family on January 15, 1915 in Nogales, Arizona. He was a conductor for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 41 years and a member of the Elks and Moose lodges. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Gladys; daughters Cheryl (Larry) Taylor, Mary Bich, Robin Chalmers (Michael Purser); grandchildren Shawn (Jerry) Wofford, Chris (Tiffany) Taylor, Lisa Taylor, Laura Bich, Julia Purser, Rebecca Purser; 3 great grandchildren; sisters Genevieve Gray, Blanche Currin and brother William Harrison. The family would like to give thanks to the staff members of Villa Maria for the care and attention given to our father. DAVIS, Andrew Ottis, 71, died February 3, 1997. Husband of Betty Davis of Tucson; father of Sheila (Paul) Banko and Debra Mechelle (Michael) Hammer, all of CA; grandfather of Danielle; brother of Mary Cassady, Naomi Intermenn and Judy Urquhart. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by granddaughter, Ana Banko and his former wife, Evelyn Warthom Davis. Memorial service, 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 9 at Voyager R.V. Resort, 8701 S. Kolb Rd. with Chaplin Merris Brady officiating. Mr. Davis was a member of Mason Delta Lodge #425 F & AM and the Elks of Tucson. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and retired in 1982 from the FAA. HECKEL, Harold Coyle, born in Rockport, MI, November 21, 1911 to Clara and Earl Heckel. Graduated from Rockport High School in 1929 and attend Platte Guard Business School. He married Vivian Sons Eilers on December 24, 1941. He and his family moved to Tucson in 1953 where they attended Our Saviours Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Vivian of Las Vegas, NV; sons, Larry Eilers of Las Vegas, NV and Harold R. Heckel of Tucson; one daughter, Carolyn Rees of Simi Valley, CA; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one brother, Lorraine Heckel of Rockport, MI. He was employed by Magma Copper Co. San Manuel, AZ for 22 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and acquired many friends during his lifetime. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m.Saturday, February 8 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1949 E. Helen St. Visitation for friends will be at the church at 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral. Interment will follow the funeral at South Lawn Cemetery.
HICKS, James E., 72, died February 5, 1997. Survived by brother, Glenn B. (Barbara) Hicks, Jr. of Tucson and sister, Barbara H. Scott of Fox Point, WI; nieces, Ceil (Gary) Duclon of Tosa, WI and Debbie (Wayne) Jones of Tucson; nephew, Glenn B. (Sally) Hicks, III of Tucson; great-nieces, Jessie, Tony and Lindsey; great-nephews, Ben and Chris Jones; great-great-nephew, Zachery Wisdom Jones. Jim spent his early years in Duluth, St. Paul and Winona, MN. Attended Northwestern University in Evanston, ILL. Worked in Civil Service at Great Lakes Naval Station in ILL. until his retirement in 1974. Moved to Tucson with his father in 1976 to be close to his brother. He loved people, golf, politics and the Chicago Cubs. He never met a stranger who didn’t become a friend for life. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. MILLER, Martin Jefferson Jr., 76, died February 3, 1997. Survived by his wife, Patricia Miller of Tucson; son, Martin Jefferson Miller, III of Denver; daughter, Judy Jo Miller of Denver; brothers, Frederick Miler of Monrovia, CA and Joseph Miller Puyallup of WA; Mr. Miller was a USAF veteran of 32 years. MUSTALESKI, Leona Elizabeth, 73, died February 6, 1997. Survived by her son, Thomas Mustaleski of Knoxville, TN;daughters, Susan Eck of Tucson and Jillaine Abel of Tucson; brothers, Thomas McNally and Peter McNally both of NJ; eight grandchildren also survive. Ms. Mustaleski was a volunteer with elder care at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was a member of Desert Threaders and member of Ft. Huachuca Widows Support Group. SMITH, Christine C., 92, of Tucson, died peacefully in her home on January 29, 1997 of age-related causes. She was born in Guthrie, OK on July 27, 1904. After spending her childhood there, she graduated from the Teachers Normal School in Bellingham, WA. 1923 marked the beginning of a long career devoted to children through teaching and tutoring. Christine married Robert W. (Bob) Smith in 1933 in Omak, WA. They raised three children there until 1955, when they moved the family to an apple ranch near Wenatchee, Washington. Christine soon became the beloved fourth grade teacher of the Monitor School. After school and on weekends she helped migrant workers learn to read and write. Christine and Bob retired to Congress, AZ in 1969, moving back to Cashmere, WA in the mid70's. Upon the urging of their daughter, Sue, they finally settled in Tucson in 1979, where they lived happily until Bob’s death in 1985. Christine’s sunny disposition eventually prevailed over her loss and she continued her lifelong love of poetry, reading, the English language and children. She continued to tutor students in reading and phonics. Tucson offered Christine the opportunity to enjoy many activities with her daughter. She also maintained a rigorous fitness schedule, walking four miles a day and swimming at Gym’s Fitness Club. This helped counter her advanced osteoporosis, and she became a role model to many club members whose lives she touched. Christine was surrounded by many neighbors and friends who will miss her deeply. Christine is survived by two brothers, Wayne Lindgren of Little Falls, MN and Harry Lindgren of Sparks, NV; three children, Patricia Davis of Seattle, WA, James Smith of Vancouver, WA and Sue Smith of Tucson; also many grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Smith, sister, Betty Kyner of Cashmere, WA and brother, John Lindgren of Guthrie, OK. The family wishes to thank long-time devoted caregivers Lisa Leon, Kathy Florez and Carol Bivens who provided comfort and care through her final days. DAVIS, Eleanor Robbins 'Ellie' age 81, died at home on January 31, 1997. She was born on January 8, 1916 to Homer E. and Lena R. Robbins in Claremont, CA. She was preceded in death by husband, Stew in 1969; her sister, Esther Moody in 1981 and her nephew, Stu Moody in 1970. She is survived by daughters, Judy (Sam) Thompson of Tucson and Susie (Carl) Kircos of Santa Barbara, CA; grandchildren, Mandy Doimas and Joanna Thompson of Tucson, Michael, Jeffrey and Cindy Kircos of Santa Barbara; sister, Janet (Redge) Ranyard of Roseburg, OR; brother-in-law, Stewart (Hillie) Moody of La Mesa, CA; nieces, Sherry (Alan) Doyle, Nancy Ranyard, Carol (Mark) Bilyeu of CA; nephews, Mike (Sally) Moody and John Ranyard of CA and Bruce (Tobi) Ranyard of HI; and many wonderful friends. Ellie graduated from Pomona College in 1937 and was married to William Stewart Davies on January 30, 1942. They moved to Tucson in 1956, and she returned to college to receive her teaching credential in 1959. Ellie was a talented and gifted teacher touching the lives of many children both here and in Claremont where she and her family moved in 1962. She retired from teaching in 1982 and moved back to Tucson. She was a member and past president of the GFWC Tucson Woman’s Club, Chairman of TWC Past Presidents, member of the GFWC Voyagers International and member and past president of the Ott YMCA Women’s Club. Ellie will be remembered for her contribution to education, her terrific sense of humor, her enthusiasm for sports (Go Cats!), her compassion for all people and her devotion to her family. LYNCH, G. Louise, 89, passed away January 22, 1997. Born July 28, 1907 to Frank E. and Annie P. Snow. She was preceded in death by her parents, by husbands, George Hitchins and Jack Lynch; brothers, Frank and Howard Snow; and sister-in-law, Rose Snow. She is survived by brother, Edwin Snow; sister-in-laws, Corinne Snow and Isabelle Snow; nieces, Carol (Frank) Cain, Phyllis Lim, Wendy (Mike) Lee, Betsy (Joe) Lamb; nephews, Samuel (Margaret) Snow, Howard B. (Diane) Snow, Jr., Dana (Kathy) Snow, Bart (Tula) Snow; and several great nieces and nephews. Aunt Louise was born in historic Marblehead, Massachusetts where the Snow family has lived for many generations. She was a proud member of the Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants. Aunt Louise was a member of St. Stephen’s Methodist Church in Marblehead and was active in The Lend a Hand Guild. She also belonged to Victory Chapter No. 157 Order of the Eastern Star. Louise married George Hitchins and remained in Marblehead for most of her life. She worked for Gilbert & Cole Lumber Co. and the Winslow Chip Co. Louise also operated her own beauty parlor for many years. After George passed on, Aunt Louise moved to Tucson to spend her retirement years. In Tucson, Louise married Jack Lynch, a childhood friend from Marblehead. Jack and Louise resided on Lazy S Street in Tucson Estates and had many happy years together. We all have fond memories of the family times together and will especially miss the holiday gatherings. We’ll miss the Spanish cream and apple pies, the pancakes on Sunday mornings, and those pink and white cakes from birthdays long ago. Aunt Louise, I know you are happy to once again be with Howard and Frank and you’re certainly right, 'old age isn’t for sissies.' NIXON, Patricia 'Pat', 63, of Tucson, died February 4, 1997. Survived by husband of 43 years, Robert, of Tucson; daughter, Terry (Troy) Mickelson, of Tucson; mother, Grace Bourguignon, of Tucson; brother, Bill Bourguignon, of Tucson; sister, Jackie Hartshorne, of Tucson; and many friends. Patricia was an avid skier, hiker and trail bicyclist. She liked the outdoors and all it had to offer. She was the owner of 'Dolls by Pat.'She has been a resident of Tucson since 1944, moving here from Illinois. She was loved and will be missed by many. Private services were held.

SILVESTRI, Frank V., 82, of Tucson, died Monday, February 3, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Nanette Roberts, Francis Silvestri, Micheline (Nick) Johnoff; grandson, Brian (Amy) Roberts. Mr. Silvestri received his B.S. in Physics from Penn State University in 1941, where he was on the Football and Boxing Teams. A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he served in the 3rd Armored and 7th Armored Divisions before transferring to the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 1997 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 8650 N. Shannon.
