MOES, Clifford L., Lt. Col., U.S. Air Force, Ret., 79, died May 13, 1997. ROMERO, Alfredo Altamirano, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 13, 1997. An Arizona native, born in Calabazas, AZ, October 22, 1915. In World War II, he served in the Army with the 822nd Military Police Company in Germany. Survived by his wife, Guadalupe Saenz Romero; sisters, Rosa Furr, Lydia Nichols, Lola Corrales and Ernestina Soto; brothers, Manuel Romero and Tony Romero; daughters, Gloria (Thomas) Lowe, Delia (Richard) Lowe, Elena (Pedro) Moran, Mary Ann (Chuck) Elliot; sons, Francisco (Connie) Romero, Alfred Romero and Ernie Romero; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 18, 1997 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. WIGGLESWORTH, James C., Jr., 34, passed away May 12, 1997. Survived by his son, Trevon; parents, Diane and James; sister, Carla Clark; brothers, John and Anthony (Cresia); and a host of family and friends. James will be greatly missed. BARNHILL, Kaia Johnson, age 59, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 1997. She was born in Madison, WI on January 12, 1938. Her parents were Sally and George Johnson, longtime winter residents of Tucson. Kaia graduated from the The Masters School, Dobbs Ferry, NY, in 1955. She attended Bradford Junior College, Bradford, MA, and the University of Wisconsin. She majored in Occupational Therapy and Nursing and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
While in Madison, Kaia was a volunteer at the Arts Center, The United Way and the Girl Scouts. In Tucson, she was an active member of the Colonial Dames of America and was on the Silver and Turquoise Ball Board of the Tucson Festival Society. She was instrumental in starting the Docent program at the Reid Park Zoo.
In 1981, Kaia and her husband Bob moved to Sonoita, AZ, where they raised Arabian Horses. Their Merry Star Ranch was a haven for their many friends and family members. Kaia and Bob were valuable participants in the Sonoita community and helped establish the Sonoita Crossroads Forum. They were very active in the Santa Cruz County Fair and Rodeo Association and the Sonoita-Elgin Emergency Services organization and the Elgin Club.
In November 1989, Kaia became Dr. Jack Copeland’s 15th Heart-Lung Transplant recipient at the University Medical Center in Tucson. She and Bob started the Arizona Heart/Lung Transplant Fund through the Tucson Community Foundation. Her determination and courage were exemplary; her devotion to her family and friends was unceasing.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; a daughter, Sara Bunn Chesney of Tucson; and a son, Carl Bunn of San Carlos, Mexico; brothers, Richmond Johnson of Templeton, CA, Hobart Johnson of Redwood City, CA and Graham Johnson of Manila, The Philippines; stepchildren, Meg Gebert, Jim Barnhill, Sam Barnhill and 10 grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, May 17, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. at The Santa Rita Abbey, Sonoita. Her family requests that donations in her name be made to the Arizona Transplant Fund, Tucson Community Foundation, 6601 E. Grant Rd., Tucson, AZ 85715; or to SEESI, Sonoita, AZ; or to a favorite charity.
BLAZAK, Mitchell Thomas, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Thursday, May 8, 1997 to work for our Lord. He was born on November 14, 1946 in Niagara Falls, NY and lived most of his life in Tucson, AZ. He had resided in El Paso with Bob and Sara Addis for the last two and one-half years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Harriet Blazak. Mitchell was a trucker and was employed by Cecil Trucking Co. in Duncan, AZ when he was tragically killed in an accident while on the job. He was a graduate of Western Technical Institute and International Trucking School, both of El Paso.
Survived by one daughter, Kathleen Addis of El Paso; father, Steve Blazak; one sister, Lori Pfaff, both of Tucson; one brother, James (and Lea) Blazak of Las Vegas, NV; one niece, Nickie Ann (and Scott) Perger; one nephew, Steven McBrayer; one great-nephew, Donovan Rich, all of Tucson; dear friends, Bob and Sara Addis of El Paso and many loyal and loving friends.

BOBILLO, Tillie (Otilia), was received into the arms of the Lord on May 14, 1997 in Tucson, Arizona. She was born on February 18, 1912 in Teverga, Oviedo, Spain. Her husband, Tomas Bobillo, preceded her in death in 1983. She is survived by her daughter, Natalia Bobillo; and son, Antonio (Martha) Bobillo of Tucson, a son, Donald (BJ) Bobillo of Phoenix and Raymond (Virginia) Bobillo of Michigan City, Indiana. Surviving are sisters, Louise Iglesias of Tucson; and Mary (Ed) Kasiak of Gary and brothers, Joe (Emily) Perez and Floyd (Jo Ellen) Perez of Gary, Indiana. Mrs. Bobillo was the proud grandmother of 13, great-grandmother of 27 and great-great-grandmother of one. After her retirement from the #4 Open Hearth, U.S. Steel Corporation in 1974 Mrs. Bobillo came to Tucson from Gary. She was an active member of Club Espana de Tucson and the Golden Age Club #1. There will be no visitation or service. The family wishes to publicly acknowledge the tender care provided by the Tucson Cancer Center, Units 300, 600 and the Hospice Center of Tucson Medical Center. COSHLAND, Robert Lee - Was granted freedom from the physical restrictions of this world on May 10, 1997. He lived a life of passion – for his family, for his work, and for protecting the beauty and diversity of the earth. Born in New York City on October 27, 1909, he earned a Masters Degree at Columbia University’s Schools of Business in 1930. For 25 years he worked for RCA in government service operations, budgeting and negotiating contracts with the US government and British Air Ministry. Finding that work interfered with all his other interests, he retired at age 58 and moved from Haddonfield, NJ, to Tucson. He became an environmentalist, active in local and national organizations. For ten years, he represented the the National Parks and Conservation Association by testifying at hearings concerning inclusion of lands in the National Wilderness Preservation System. He represented the Tucson Audubon Society in the Arizona Wilderness Coalition. He challenged developers, both private and governmental, whose proposals threatened precious natural beauty of animal species or resulted in improper use of water resources. He and his beloved wife of 60 years, Helen J. Coshland, did much of their research from a modified Harvester Travel-all on Arizona’s backroads. They also traveled the globe; not as traditional tourists, but to experience nature and life in remote places; Alaska, Baja, Ethiopia, central and southern Africa, the Galapagos Islands, Australia, Tahiti, Greenland, and South America. An avid photographer, his travel shows helped to fund many charitable organizations. He was known for his great sense of humor and dry wit. He is survived by his wife, Helen; daughter, Elizabeth Peasley-Fimbres of Tucson; son, Gilbert (Pat) C. Coshland of Reston, VA; grandchildren, Allison Peasley of Tucson, Jennifer Gibbons of Redondo Beach, CA, Sarah (Jean) Blanchard of Virginia Beach, VA, Karen Wickstrom of Salt Lake City, UT, Jill Jackson and Jeffrey Coshland of Reston, VA; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Joshua, Virginia, and Ryan. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 17th at 11:00 a.m. at Catalina Baptist Church, 1900 N. Country Club; Rev.David Wilkinson, St. Francis in the Foothills, officiating.
