KUSIAN, Walter A., passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 1997. An Arizona native, born in Miami, AZ, on June 13, 1917, he was the ’35 Tucson High quarterback, and a U of A graduate who remained an avid fan all his life, missing only two home football games since WWII. During WWII he served in the Air Force as navigator in the first B-29 missions over Japan, was shot down over China, and returned to Tucson to join his father at Time Market. In 1959 he purchased Cox Produce, and merged in 1986 with Tooley & Sons Produce to form Tucson Fruit and Produce. Walt loved the action and challenge of the produce business and rarely missed even one day. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Lou and son John, he is survived by his sons, Richard (Deanna), Thomas (Peggy), Patrick; his granddaughters, Morgan, Carolyn, Julia, Shelly; by his sister, Lenor Harrell (Sheldon); brother, Peter Kusian; by loving nieces and nephews. We will all miss his wit, strength and gentle nature. Services will be private. BERLIN, Grace Rose Salasnek 'Gitela', born May 29, 1915, Detroit, MI. Passed away May 4, 1997. Survived by daughter, Judith (Gary) Clifford of San Francisco; and son, Dr. Sanford Berlin of Tucson; along with beloved grandchildren, Dina and Tony Berlin. Grace studied Opera for many years at the Detroit Conservatory of Music. She was married to Herman Berlin for over 50 years until his death in 1987. Grace was active in many religious and cultural activities along with being a successful businesswoman in Oak Park, MI, for many years. She will be missed by all who loved her for eternity. CAHOON, Joe Sullivan, 72, passed away on May 4, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Tallia; sons, Joe and John. Joe was born at home, June 6, 1924 in Muskogee, OK. He attended schools there and graduated from Central High School in 1942. He attended Conners College in Warner, OK and received his undergraduate degree from Oklahoma A and M, Stillwater, OK in 1946. He performed graduate studies in soil science there as well. Mr. Cahoon completed post graduate work in soil science at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, 1966. Mr. Cahoon’s professional career as a soil scientist began in 1948 in Farmington and in Shiprock, NM and continued in several locations in field and administrative positions in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Oregon until his retirement in 1981. He retired as the State Soils Correlator for Oregon and Washington with the Bureau of Land Management, Portland, OR. At this time he and his wife, Tallia, returned to Tucson to live permanently. There he worked part time for two geo-technical firms. During his employment Mr. Cahoon authored several publications pertaining to the soils of Klamath County, OR. Mr. Cahoon was a member of several professional soils science organizations, Phi Sigma, biological honorary and the recipient of several professional awards. Mr. Cahoon held offices in the Jaycee Chapter, Chiloquin, OR and was the co-organizer and first president of the Lake County Jaycees, Lakeview, OR. He was a SCUBA diver, a private pilot and was listed in Who’s Who in the West. He was a quiet man who loved the out-of-doors and enjoyed camping, reading, photography, carpentry and woodworking. FLENNER, William Harry, 87, of Tucson, died May 4, 1997. Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Annabelle; one son, Kenneth (Donna) Flenner of Tucson; one daughter, Elaine (Herbert) Cox of Hudson, FL; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. MEAD, Ralph V., 93, of Tucson, passed away May 2, 1997. ROBLES, Reynaldo Morales, passed away April 7, 1997. Survived by his daughter, Virginia Elaine Robles; his grandchildren, Yvette, Michael and Alberto Garcia; and very close friend, Vincent Sanchez. Known to his grandchildren as 'Tata Rey'. Rey took time to be with his grandchildren and they will always remember, love and miss him.
