KINTNER, Galen D., 76, passed away at his home in Hemet, California on Sunday, April 20, 1997, due to lung failure. Mr. Kintner, born in La Place, Illinois, served in the Navy, 1942 to 1945. He was a teacher and coached basketball in Decatur, Illinois from 1947 to 1959 and at Catalina High School in Tucson from 1959 to 1983. While coaching in Tucson, his 1962-63 Trojan team won the State Championship. He retired to Hemet, California in 1983, where he enjoyed golfing, cards, traveling and watching all sports. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gloria; two daughters, Gay Harris of Belvedere, CA and Sally Lutgerding of Riverside, CA; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
McIVER, Cathleen Carroll (Ashe), 71, died Sunday, April 27, 1997. Born in Chuquicamata, Chile 1925 to Martha and Michael Ashe. Survived by husband, John D. McIver of Oracle, AZ; four children, John 'Jack', Thomas, Richard and Helen, all residents of Phoenix; three grandchildren; two living brothers, Herbert John and Donald George Ashe. Cathleen studied pre-med at Creighton University in Omaha, NE and was a graduate RN in nursing from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Denver, CO. Services Saturday, May 3 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Helen’s Church in Oracle, with a reception following at the Oracle Community Center in Oracle.
MOYZA, Alyce Ruth, age 59, of Tucson, AZ, passed away peacefully on April 26, 1997. Alyce’s life was dedicated to bringing happiness and love to her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband, Armando, Sr.; daughters, Fran, Olga, Anna; sons, Armando Jr. and Gilbert; her son-in-law, Michael; sister and brother-in-law, Olga and Jesus Aguilar; brother, Chris Quezada; beloved grandchildren, Christen, Adrianne, Jennifer, Raymond, Andrew, Sarah, William, Natalie, Katie and Rebekah; her nieces, Julie (Bob) and Cecilia; her nephew, Lenny (Nadine), Patsy and Diane (Martin); her special surrogate daughter and son, Susie and John, Rae Leanne and Trevor; great aunt, Julia Peralta; and her cousins, Angie and Dick Yrigoyen, Joanne, Diane, Jackie, Pam, Roberto, Debbie, Sandy, Mickey, Arnold, Armando (Racheal), Virgie, Sister Gloria, Eleanor (John), Chuck (Lydia), Darlene (Fernando), Carlos, Eddie and Annie; and her special friend and helper, Alex. This was the family she loved and lived her life to the fullest for. She also had many additional friends and relatives who she loved dearly.
Alyce worked in the banking industry for more than 33 years. Upon graduating from Salpointe High School, Alyce worked for Southern Arizona Bank and subsequently Valley National Bank where she made many life-long friends. Alyce positively affected the lives of many. For those who knew her, she was always happy, had an infectious smile and would make everyone laugh. She lent a helping hand to anyone who would ask. She will be dearly missed by all.
A Rosary will be held at Santa Cruz Church on Thursday, May 1 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Mass also at Santa Cruz Church will be held on Friday, May 2 at 9:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Tubac Cemetery directly after the Mass.

TOLSON, Dorothy, born March 2, 1910, Globe, Arizona to Ben and Dorothy Tolson, passed away Monday, April 28, 1997.Survived by brother, Bob of Tucson; nieces, Betty (Jim) Peterson of Madison, SD and Kay (Sid) French of Tucson; nephews, Brad (Alice) Tolson and Tom (Pam) Tolson, all of Tucson. She attended ASC in Flagstaff, UA in Tucson, UCLA in CA and Oregon State in Corvallis, OR. She earned a Master’s Degree in Home Economics, started teaching in Globe in 1934, taught four years before moving to Winslow, AZ. She returned to Globe and taught Home Economics until she retired in 1975. She was past president of Arizona Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society. WAER, Armida Higuera, 86, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 1997 in Marrero, Louisiana. Beloved wife of the late Richard Waer. Mother of Richard D. Waer, Ph D. and Anna Marie Waer Renegar. 'Nani' was a native Tucsonan and worked in Better Dresses at Jacome’s Department Store for over 25 years. She had lived with her daughter in Louisiana for the past eight years. DAVIS, Daniel E., 75, of Tucson, died April 27, 1997. He was born July 3, 1922 in Creston, Iowa. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa and did graduate work at the University of New Mexico and the University of Montana.
Davis retired to Tucson in 1977 after a distinguished 30 year career in the National Park Service. A two-time recipient of the Meritorious Service Award from the Department of the Interior, Davis completed his career as Associate Regional Director of Operations in Omaha, Nebraska, where he was responsible for the operations of 40 National Park Service areas. Davis spent nearly a third of his career in Arizona, primarily at the Grand Canyon. He authored several publications about that area including, 'Hikers Guide to the Grand Canyon', 'Boatman’s Guide to the Grand Canyon', and 'The Little Colorado'.
While weekend supervisor at the Desert Museum in 1978, David was asked to be Acting Director by the ASDM Board of Trustees following the resignation of the Director. The trustees appointed Davis Director of the Desert Museum in 1979. He retired from that position in 1989.
During Davis’ tenure the Desert Museum was put on a firm financial footing, the education program was expanded and several major exhibits were built including the Earth Sciences Center, the Mountain Habitats and the Tyler Hummingbird Exhibit. It was also during this period the current popular PBS program, 'The Desert Speaks', was created by the Desert Museum and KOLD-TV, Channel 13 in Tucson.
Davis was an expert in the area of comprehensive planning for national parks. He consulted in the U.S. and abroad to lead park studies in Libya, Israel, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Curacao, among other locations. In addition, he led numerous natural history trips to Africa and India on behalf of the Desert Museum and Tucson’s Tohono Chul Park.
Davis is survived by his wife, Joan; children Daniel, Nancy, Terry, Barbara and Michelle; sisters, Martha Gray and Elizabeth Harvat of Denver; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
There will be a Memorial Service at the Desert Museum in the Desert Garden at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 30. Friends are invited to attend. Mr. Davis’ remains will be interred near the Grand Canyon at the end of June.

IRWIN, John Henry Barrows. Dr. John B. Irwin died of lymphoma cancer at the age of 87 years, nine months and three days at Manor Care, April 10, 1997. He was born in Princeton, NJ, July 7, 1909. His parents were Frank and Mary (Barrows) Irwin. in 1936 he married Ruth Catherwood with whom he had four children. In 1986 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in Tucson, AZ. After the death of his first wife, he married Lorine Warrick in 1994, and they resided at 2879 East Presidio Road in Tucson.
