WAID, Guy N., 89, died April 19, 1997 at Midvale Manor in Tucson. He is survived by three loving sons, Jim (Beverly) of Tucson, Carter (Margaret) of Houston, Crandell (Julia) of New York City; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary. Born in Illinois Bend, TX on May 30, 1907. He was raised in Oklahoma. He received his Doctorate in Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1952. He served as a school teacher, school administrator and college professor for 45 years. He served as a Southern Baptist Sunday School teacher for most of his life.
AGUIRRE, Alberto, 21, of San Manuel, passed away April 22, 1997 in San Manuel. He was born April 17, 1976 in Silver City, New Mexico. He came with his family nine years ago to San Manuel where he attended high school, graduating in 1995. He was captain of the football team, an All-Conference Champion in wrestling and was a member of the basketball team. He graduated from the Arizona Automotive Institute in 1997. He was recently employed by BHP Copper Co. in San Manuel. He was a wonderful father and husband and loved all his family dearly. Survivors include his wife, Jennifer and baby son, Alberto Jr.; parents, Efren and Maria Aguirre; brothers, Efren Jr. (Karla) and Noel; grandparents, Esteban and Guadalupe Aguirre and Francisco and Rosa Holguin. The Rosary will be at 8:00 p.m., Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Mammoth. The Mass will be at 9:00 a.m., Friday, also at Blessed Sacrament. HAAG, Evelyn L., born June 15, 1921 in Williams County, Ohio and a resident of Tucson for 41 years, died April 23, 1997. She was preceded in death by her loving and beloved husband, Robert. Survivors include her loving son, Jim M. (Barbara) Haag of Panama City, FL.; her beloved grandsons, Robert Haag and Michael Haag of Albuquerque, NM.; sister, Laona Ladd; and brother, Carl Lash; sisters-in-law, Julia Haag of Tucson and Ann Haag; plus brother-in-law, John Haag. Evelyn was retired from DMAFB Department of Finance and Accounting, where she worked for 25 years. Evelyn was a member of Spanish Trail Lutheran Church. She was a lifetime member of Sigma Phi Gamma, Alpha Gamma Chapter where she had served in many capacities including past President. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliaries of the VFW Unit 4903 and the American Legion, AZ Unit 36. As the widow of Robert she enjoyed a long affiliation with BPO Elks Lodge 385. PAJUNAS, William A., (Bill Page) departed this world for his spiritual journey on April 17, 1997. Bill was the beloved husband of Marlene Borland Pajunas, wed on October 14, 1971. Born in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania on October 26, 1930, Bill was one of six children of John and Kathryn Bekampis Pajunas; sister, Ann; brothers, Anthony, Edward, John, Joseph and Norbert. Bill was a proud member of the U.S. Marines, honorably discharged as Staff Sargeant; a long standing member of IBEW Local 570; and a TRB Licensed Trainer. Bill raised and trained racing Thoroughbreds at his Wil-O-Mar Ranch since the 1970's. He enjoyed rodeo competition with Bull-Dogging as his major event. When Bill, with his guitar, entertained at Tucson and New York Guest Ranches, he was known as Bill Page. His collection of old western story songs was beyond comparison. Bill will be missed in many ways. RICKSECKER, John Mitchell, 86, of Tucson, AZ, died April 23, 1997. Born September 16, 1910 in Findlay, Ohio. He has been a resident of Tucson since 1952. Preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Gladys M. Ricksecker. Survived by his four children and spouses, Marilyn and Francis Altman, John E. and Icela Ricksecker, Doris K. Solis and Thomas L. and Karen Ricksecker. His survivors also include six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. John was a long time member of the Tucson Rod and Gun Club and an avid outdoorsman. In recent years he enjoyed the programs and his many friends at the Tucson Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. CARLSON, Elizabeth (Betty) Jane, 81, of Tucson, passed on peacefully April 6, 1997 at Tucson Medical Center. She was healthy and active up to the time of death from a stroke. Born June 4, 1915 in Oakland, CA to Wilbur (Pocky Bill) Bolton and Bess (Baba) Bolton (Warner). She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Oscar Carlson, her sister, Mary Ann (Chub) Whiting, and her brother, Bill Bolton. Survived by sons, Charles Oscar Carlson, Juneau, Alaska and Eric Bolton Carlson, Tucson; daughters, Linda Good, Marietta, GA and Cory Moore, San Jose, CA, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; sister, Eda Jean May, San Rafael, CA; nieces and nephews. Betty and her husband were both reared in Palo Alto, CA where they graduated from high school. They raised their family in Gilroy, San Jose, and Los Gatos, CA. Mrs. Carlson attended Oregon State University and graduated from San Jose State, taught school in Lindsey, CA, was active with the Girl Scouts, and worked with Mrs. Herbert Hoover in the scouting leadership program. She was a member of PEO for 59 years. An outdoor enthusiast, at the age of 71, Mrs. Carlson hiked across the Grand Canyon. Betty hiked her favorite location in the desert overlooking the Sabino Canyon the morning before her stroke at home in the early afternoon. CONLEY, Mary Alice, born on June 11, 1925, in Marshalltown, IA, died in Tucson on April 19, 1997. She was preceded in death by her parents, Brig. Gen. Edward A. and Nona Shunick Conley. She is survived by 13 cousins and many friends. (Mary Alice had, all her life, a rare genius for friendship.) She earned a B.S. in Business Administration, with high distinction, in 1952 at the University of Arizona, and immediately began working there in the Office of the Registrar (Degree Certification section). She performed with high distinction there as well for the next 23 years. She was a member of the Newman Club, Beta Gamma Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi scholastic honorary, and the Marian Guild at SS. Peter and Paul Parish. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 23, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2545 N. Tucson Blvd., with recitation of the Rosary at 3:30. HOPPER, Albert N., 83, born in Suffern, NY, October 18, 1913, died April 21, 1997. Al was a direct descendant of early Dutch settlers, one of whom served on Peter Stuyvesant’s Colonial Council. Albert is preceded in death by his wife, Pat (Sawyer) in 1981. He is survived by his son, Albert, Bisbee; and daughters Andrea, Edith Abbott, WA State and Mary Christ; also grandchildren, Adam, Sarah and Mason Williams, Rachel and Joseph Christ, Keith and Clark Abbott; also sister Elinor Bishop, Green Valley. To the day he died and in spite of some health obstacles, Albert impressed everyone he met with his cheerful, positive outlook and his genuine love of people. KOREMAN, Edward H., 83, a Tucson resident, died April 18, 1997. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, NELLY. Colonel Koreman is a highly decorated U.S. Army Officer having served at the highest level in the military. He served in the Pentagon, Washington D.C. for 12 years in the Office of the U.S. Army Chief of Staff. He served in WWII in Europe and in Japan during the Korean War. While in Europe he served on General Omar Bradley’s 12th Army General Staff as Assistant Adjutant General. He holds a Bachelors degree in Science from Manhattan College NY City and a Masters in Business Administration from U of PA. After more than 28 years of military service to his Country he retired in 1962. At that time he was the Adjutant General USAEPG Ft. Huachuca, AZ. Shortly after retirement Colonel Koremann with his wife NELLY moved to Switzerland where he served as a Director on several Boards of Swiss American Corporations. He and Nelly returned to Tucson in 1979. Colonel Koreman was a Honorary Member of the Swiss Officers Club, the DM Officers Club, the Retired Officers Association, American Legion, AMVETS, DAV, Elks, MOWW, and the VFW.
