Reba Ethel Douglass Grubb, 81, died at her home in Tucson on July 27, 1997. Mrs. Grubb was born in Morgantown, KY on March 30, 1916 to Ona and Ethel Douglass. She came to Tucson from Welch, WV in 1960. She always had a passion for history and it showed not only in her vocation, but also in her home where she had wonderful collections of antique books and porcelain dolls. She had published numerous articles and books to include a history of Tucson Medical Center. Mrs. Grubb was also a member of numerous organizations to include the National League of American Pen Women where she had been past president. She also participated in the United Methodist Church Workers, the Clan Douglas Society of North American, the Society of the Antiquaries-Scotland, the Arizona State Historical Society, the American State and Local History Association and the American Medical Writer’s Association. Reba was also very active in the Methodist Church both back in West Virginia and here. She was always known as simply 'Grandma' to all who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind. She is survived by her sons, Douglas 'Andy' Grubb of Glendale, AZ, Robert Grubb of Idaho Falls, ID; her sisters, Marie Wood of Phoenix, AZ and Florence Tritt of Pensacola, FL; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Reba was predeceased by her husband, Frank of 56 years and a daughter, Pamela Mayhall. Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, July 29 at 7:30 p.m. from the Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway, Tucson. Donations may be made in Mrs. Grubb’s name to the Pima Co. JACOBS, E. A. 'Lee', 93, of Tucson, passed away July 25, 1997. Survived by daughter, Mary Lee (Joel) Valdez; sons, Walter (Lilia), Lionel (Stella), Ben (Mary Ann) Jacobs; sisters, Eva Arriaga, Elvira Amado, Isola Martinez, Leticia Fuentes; brothers, Alfonso and Benjamin Jacobs. JOHNSON, Billy Wayne, passed away on July 23, 1997. He was born in Muskogee, OK on December 26, 1922. married Marion Virginia Longacre on September 3, 1945.Father of Kenneth, Dennis (Ingrid), Glenn (Selina Dearing), Martha Elaine, Beth (Edward Donahue), Steven and Michael (Ann Christiansen). Grandfather of Byron, Neil, Deven, Kyle, Ryan, Christopher and Maren Johnson. He is also survived by five brothers and three sisters. Billy spent most of his life in the military, starting as a private in the Army Air Corp in WWII and retiring in 1964 at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base as a Major. He was Chief Administrator of Bien Hua, Vietnam until the capture of Saigon by the Viet Cong. He was a member of VFW Post 4903, the American Legion Post 36, and a past member of the board of Directors of the Tucson Boys Chorus. Bill served as team chief with the DMAFB Search and Rescue Team and helped with the Pima County Sheriff Dept. team that searched for the three Tucson Boy Scouts lost in the Santa Rita Mountains during the November 1958 snowstorm. He led the search team that recovered the remains of a crashed plane of 'Flying Tiger' Lt. General Claire Lee Chennault from the Gila Wilderness in New Mexico which are now located in the U.S. Air Force Museum. Bill enjoyed serving annually as a official for the PGA and LPGA Golf Tournaments at Randolph and Star Pass Golf Courses and playing on the DMAFB Golf Team. Remembrances may be made to the American Indian Scholarship Fund at the University of Arizona (621-7989). Glen Nelson, Born August 6, 1914, died July 25, 1997. His survivors are a loving wife of 55 years, Elsie Marie; daughter, Brenda Rae; son, David Glen (Tanyha); three grandsons, Mano Ortega (Maria), Angel Ortega (Rachel), Chris Ortega; three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter, all of Tucson; brother, Albert Edward of Taylor Ridge, IL; plus many extended family members. Glen was a self-employed craftsman. His quality workmanship, skillful knowledge and patient approach has provided the Tucson area with a custom individualized service for 45 years. A veteran of WWII and a 25 year member of Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church. His talents and service along with his loving nature and personal integrity will be missed by all. DRURY, Lawrence V., 'Larry', 71, of Tucson, died July 26, 1997. Survivors include his loving wife of 27 years, Kathleen; five children, Scott Drury, Victoria Watje, Lawrence V. After serving his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII, Larry graduated from Temple University. He was a long time member of the Catalina Rotary Club and a well-respected businessman of the Tucson Community for the past 18 years. An historian by nature and vocation, she published numerous articles and books including a two volume history of the Tucson Medical Center. Reba was a natural leader, public speaker and consultant. Some of her many organizational memberships include the National League of American Pen Women (former President of the Tucson branch), the United Methodist Church Workers, the Clan Douglas Society of North American (published the newsletter Dubh Glase, for many years), the Society of the Antiquaries-Scotland, the Arizona State Historical Society, the American State and Local History Association, and the American Medical Writer’s Association. Reba was also an active part of the United Methodist Church both in Tucson and in Welch, WV. Her love of history and her passion for education were reflected best in her home. She was a tireless collector of antique books and dolls of all varieties. She won recognition for the beautiful porcelain dolls she taught herself to make. But Reba was best at “collecting' people. She was simply 'Grandma' to nearly all who knew her with a ready hug and smile She was loved very much by so very many, and she will be greatly missed. OLSSON, Elizabeth (Betty), 71, of Tucson, peacefully joined her friend Jesus in Heaven, July 25, 1997. Born February 16, 1926, in Traverse City, MI, she has resided in Tucson for the past 24 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, William A. and Mildred P. Bovee; her brothers, William, Lloyd; and her sister, Laverne. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Otto, whom she met in Tucson 50 years ago. Her sons, John, David, Eric; daughter, Karen Strong; her grandchildren, Michael, Stephen, Robert Strong, Amy, Linnea, Daniel Olsson, and Marika Giers; and her brother, Tom Bovee. Beloved wife, mother, and friend, Betty took great pleasure in her many friendships and in the enjoyment of God’s creatures and plants, as well as the worship activities at Tanque Verde Lutheran Church. Rachel Marie Capanna, Age 18, died tragically July 23, 1997.
