MCNAY, William Emerson 'Mac', a long time Tucson resident died July 25, 1997 at Navapache Regional Medical Center in Show Low. Mr. McNay retired from Southern Pacific Railroad after 20 years in the automotive shop. He was a member of th BPOE Elks Lodge and a member of the White Mountain United Methodist Church in Show Low and enjoyed bowling. Mr. McNay is survived by wife, Evelyn Brindle McNay of Show Low; two sons, William of Tucson and Stephen of Mesa; two brothers, Eugene of Indianapolis, IN and David of Redlands, CA; two sisters, Naomi Lee and Ruth Kinnear, both of Indianapolis and three grandchildren. There are no Services planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: RTA Hospice, Rt. 4 Box 1740, Suite 6, Lakeside, AZ 85929.Owens Mortuary, of Show Low handled arrangements.

Dr. Vaughn R. Stewart, 83, of Tucson, died July 23, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Jeannette and son, Dan, both of Tucson; his daughter, Betty Detweiler and son-in-law, Ken from Denver; three granddaughters, Lori Gray, Kathy Neeb and Diana Geck; one great-grandson, Nathaniel Geck. Dr. Stewart was a chiropractor in Tucson for 54 years. He was also active in Toastmasters International and First United Methodist Church. His hobbies included writing and drawing. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions could be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Dr. Vaughn R. Stewart. A private Graveside Service will precede the 10:00 a.m. Memorial Service at First United Methodist Church. A reception for friends and relatives will follow the Service in the Church Social Hall.

Edna Arlone Jennings Zeavin, 66, of Tucson, entered into rest July 23, 1997. Edna was born November 6, 1930 in San Francisco, of Carlton and Violet Jennings. She graduated from ASU with a Master’s in Microbiology. Edna enjoyed freelance writing, travel, teaching, cooking and reading. She published seven books. Preceded in death by April Antonetti and David Zeavin. Survived by husband of 38 years, Barney Zeavin; ex-husband, Dan Antonetti; daughters, Bonnie Bonfield (Harry), Lorna Humphreys (Robin), Becky Lines (David); son, Carl Zeavin and three grandchildren, Robert Bonfield, Paige Humphreys, Lana Lines. Friends may call at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway, Friday, July 25, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held Saturday, July 26, at 2:00 p.m. at Fairmount Chapel of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 6150 E. Fairmount, with viewing one hour prior in the Relief Society room. Graveside Services immediately following at Binghampton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St.Joseph’s Hospice. GOMEZ, Bertha Cota, born March 27, 1945 in Vicam, Sonora, Mexico joined our heavenly father on July 23, 1997. Preceded in death by son, Francisco Rivera Cota and parents, Dolores Cota Alvarez and Argelia Osuna Paredes. Beloved wife of Dolores F. Gomez; loving mother of Sylvia (Ray) Tautimer, Estevan (Veronica) Gomez and Jorge Gomez. Cherished grandmother to Veronica, Ray Jr and Marissa Tautimer and Estevan A. Gomez, Jr. Caring sister to four brothers and two sisters of Sonora, Mexico. Will be missed by all including many nieces, nephews and friends. LeKANDER, Russell V., 81, of Tucson passed away on July 22, 1997. He is survived by his wife Betty Rex LeKander. Russell had three children, Lawrence M. LeKander, Salinas, CA (predeceased), Neil W. LeKander, Hudson, WI and MaryAnn Deitering, Aurora, OR; 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Russell was a 57 year resident of Tucson and was long-time owner of Russ Plumbing of Tucson, retiring in 1975. Russell was born in West Chicago, IL, the fourth of six children, survived by Keith LeKander, Camarillo, CA, Gene Edwards, Kermin, CA and Dale LeKander of Tucson. He was predeceased by Glen LeKander, Aurora, IL, Fred LeKander, Genoa, IL and parents Clarence and Anna of West Chicago, IL. No formal services are planned until a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your personal charity.

LEW, Edna Bik Wan, of Chandler, AZ, died July 24, 1997. Born September 26, 1929 in Canton, China she came to Tucson in 1946 as a 'War Bride' of Foong Sheung Lew. Survived by sons, Louis (Dorothy) Lew of Tucson, Don (Betsy) Lew of San Jose, Hanly Lew of Tucson, Phillip (Pat) Lew of Phoenix and Tony (Marty) Lew of Chicago; daughter, Barbara (Peter) Ngai of Chandler; grandchildren, Thomas, Brian, Donald, Jennifer, Kenneth, Kathryn, Samuel, Christopher, Timothy, Bethany and Joshua; brothers, Wu Ching Po and Wing K. LINTON, Eric B., age 84, of Tucson, Arizona, died July 24, 1997. Preceded in death by wife of 62 years, Marjorie in 1992; brother, Gustav in 1996. Survived by children, Marjorie (Marvin) Bonner of Bellvue, Texas, Eric J. (Mina) Linton of Lewisville, Texas, Barbara Smith of Tucson; grandchildren, Marianne (Mike) Paulsen of Texas, Eric R. (Dawn) Linton of Lewisville, Texas, Robert (Staci) Smith of Tucson, Jennifer (Jeremy) Dutton of Tucson; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jill and Grant Paulsen, Kelsey Linton, Jared and Jonathan Dutton. He was a fireman of 26 years in New York, 12 of these as fire chief, also worked J.C. Penny in Tucson until his retirement and as a security guard at Tucson Meadows Mobile Home Park until four years ago. No Services will be held. Remembrances may be made to a charity of your choice. MURRAY, MATE E., 90, of Tucson, passed away July 24, 1997. Survived by sister, Dorothy Anderson of California; brother, Dan Rice of Montana; nephews, Braxton Brown. Manuel Adolfo Pombo, 29, of Tucson, died July 23, 1997. Born October 10, 1967 in Flagstaff, AZ. He will be missed by his wife, Rebecca; parents, Adolfo and Vitalia Pombo; sister, Maria Pombo; brother, Jose Pombo; the Tellez family; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Manuel graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Architecture and was sole proprietor of FORMA Planning and Design. Viewing and Rosary will be held Sunday, July 27, 1997 at 7:00 p.m. at Nativity Catholic Church in Flagstaff, AZ. Mass will be offered Monday, July 28, 1997 at 8:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church. SMITH, Doris C., 89, of Tucson, passed away on June 24, 1997. Wife of the late Rodney F. Smith. Born in Winthrop, Mass. She served as a captain in the Women’s Defense Corps. She and her husband moved to Tucson in the 1950's where together they managed Solana Y Sombra Mobile Park. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Joel Douglas Streb, 51, of Tucson, passed away July 9, 1997. Preceded in death by father, Claude R. Streb and mother, Elizabeth R. Streb of Grosse Pointe, MI. He is survived by twin sister, Jann (Howard) Schmohl of Tucson and brother, Dr. Richard (Chris) Streb of Baton Rouge, LA; and cousins, Pat and Fred Alvord of Tucson. TAYLOR, Robert D., 39, of Tucson, died July 21, 1997. Survived by longtime companion, Wanda McCray; children, Robert, Tanisha, Charity, Brittney, Isaiah, all of Tucson, Juvon of New York; father, Samuel W. Taylor, Jr. of Bayshore, NY; mother, Beatrice Taylor of Brooklyn, NY; sisters, Sandra Harper, Daionne Sparks; brother, Kevin Taylor all of NY; and one grandchild. Michael Lee Buchholz, 24, of Tucson, passed away on 20 July, 1997 while on temporary duty for the Air Force at Incerlik Air Base, Turkey. Those who knew him, know who they are missing. Michael, the son of German immigrants grew up in the USA and Germany. He was born in Delhi, NY. He was fluent in English and German and was a great asset, as well as a friend to everyone he knew. He entered the Air Force from Tucson. He was stationed at Luke AFB, Phoenix, AZ, in South Korea and until recently, at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. He was an Aircraft Armament Systems Specialist, allowing him to be near the things he loved, airplanes. He will be missed by his parents, Heinz and Margarete Buchholz; his sister, Marion, his brother-in-law, John Flanagan, his nephew, John Flanagan III and his niece, Elise Flanagan. He is also survived by many relatives from Germany. Services will be performed by Father Robert Wicht, on Davis-Monthan AFB – date is not known at this time. Lillian G. Fagan, 75, of Tucson, died July 17, 1997. Beloved mother of daughters, Carol J. Putman, Burnham, IL (Leslie), Linda S. Frei, Schofield, WI., (Richard), Diana L. McDonald (Bill) and Janet K. Fagan, both of Grayslake, IL. Loving grandmother to Paul, Chris, Marty, Adam, Anne, John, Meghan and great-grandmother to Sean and Clarissa. Mrs. Fagan was preceded in death by her husband, Martin George Fagan. She loved life and made everyone laugh. In her day she was a great cook. She will be sadly missed. We love you, mom. Memorial Mass will be on Thursday, July 24, 1997 at 8: 15 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, 602 W. Ajo. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY, 1040 N. Columbus Blvd.

HOUSMAN, Martin F., 82, of Tucson, died Monday, July 21, 1997. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Helen, plus many nieces, nephews and friends. Martin was the former owner of Mar-Lens Babyland. He was also a charter member of Tucson Reformed Church. Friends may call at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Thursday, July 24 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Tucson Reformed Church, 5005 E. Winsett, Friday, July 25 at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Judy Marvel officiating with interment to follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Martin’s name to the Tucson Reformed Church Memorial Fund.
