CLARK, Shirley A. Memorial celebration of Shirley Clark’s life to be held at Gilbert Ray Picnic Area #C 42 on Sunday, June 22, 1997 at 7:00 p.m. Bring candles and memories to share. Shirley died June 12, 1997 at Tucson Medical Center. Born March 3, 1927 in Elyria, OH, she lived in Ashtabula, OHbefore moving to Tucson, 20 years ago.Survivors are her brother, John A Fees of Lisbon, OH; her parents, George A. and Anna C. Fees; brothers, Eugene and Edwin Fees and sister, Leona Horvath are deceased.

CRAWFORD, James Lafayette, age 74, died on June 15, 1997 at the Carondelet Hospice Unit at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Tucson, Arizona. He was a devoted husband and the father of four adult children and seven grandchildren. A native of El Paso and Alpine, Texas, Mr. Crawford received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Sul Ross State University. A World War II veteran, he served as a Navy Corpsman attached to the First Division Marines. He participated in the siege of Peleliu Island; part of the attack on the Philippines. He continued his civilian service as a Coach, Principal and teacher at Alpine High School in Texas and completed his distinguished career as a chemistry teacher at Burges High School in El Paso, Texas, retiring in 1985. James was preceded in death by his parents, Guy B. and Mamie McNeese Crawford. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Crawford of Tucson, Arizona; four children, Guy Moore Crawford of El Paso, Texas, Rex Charles Crawford of Olympia, Washington, Alan Bruce Crawford of Lenexa, Kansas and Amy Sue Allison of Tucson, Arizona. James is also survived by two sisters and a brother, Dorothy McMillan of Alpine, Texas, Robert Crawford formerly of El Paso, Texas and Betty Robertson formerly of El Paso, now residing in Alpine, Texas. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, June 18 at Kastor, Maxin and Futrell at 8817 Dyer St., El Paso, Texas. Graveside Services will be in Alpine, Texas the following day. Local arrangements by BRINGS BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

FREELAND, George W., 83, of Tucson, died June 15, 1997. Survived by wife, Bernice I. Freeland of Tucson and daughter, Jo Ann Taylor of San Marcos, CA. Graveside Service, Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., Evergreen Cemetery, with Pastor Dale L. Moe of Lord of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile.

HARRIS, Lanora Ethel (Craig), 83, a resident of Tucson since 1988, passed away June 14, 1997 from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Stroud, OK, in 1935 she married Glenwood Harris, who survives. They had been active in the United Methodist Church in the various cities in which they had lived: Tulsa, Kansas City, Birmingham, AL, and Houston. Mrs. Harris also is survived by the couple’s three daughters and their families, Wanda and Adrian Harris Manktelow of Dartmouth, England; Elaine and Steve Hedden of Tucson, Trevor Hedden of Tucson, and Jared Hedden of Los Angeles; Frieda and Jack Skinner of Tucson, Rob Skinner of Tucson, Jeff (Linda); and daughter, Emily Skinner of Houston, and Jill (Carl) and daughter Layni Bowen of Richmond, VA. Also surviving are her sisters and their husbands, Ara Mae (Wayne) Calhoun and Genevieve (Ralph) Scott of Bella Vista, AR. Preceding her in death were her granddaughter, Sabrina Wilson and Sabrina’s father, John Wilson. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on June 17 at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway). A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. June 18, 1997 at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. Memorial Services to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church United Methodist. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Christ Church United Methodist, 655 N. Craycroft Rd., in memory of Lanora. HATTOON, Emil J., born April 14, 1928, died June 16, 1997. Theologian in residence at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, master musician most recently with Big Band Express. He is survived by his wife of 25 years Anne (nee Norton), Christopher Hattoon (Sarah), Mark Hattoon, Lise Britt and Matthew Hattoon (Lisa), Don Bethune (Ann), Tom Bethune (Jean), Jennifer Bethune, Nancy Ingerson (Andy); 15 grandchildren; sisters, Annice Edmundson (Eldon), Bettie Coffey (Bert), Kay Hoffmann (Alfred). Memorial service will be held Thursday, June 19, 1997, 2:00 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 901 E. Old Spanish Trail. For additional information telephone (520) 298-9782.

HUGHES, Jane W., 75, died on Wednesday, May 28, 1997. She had been a resident of Tucson since 1958, formerly of OH, and was a 1943 graduate of The Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Lt. Col. Frank M. Wyman, Jr., USAF; and second husband, Lawrence E. Hughes. She will be remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Gail Wyman Remaly and Dick Remaly of Morristown, NJ; grandson, Scott Remaly of Morristown; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Homer Smith; niece, Alison Husted, all of Tucson. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 26 at 5:00 p.m., in the chapel of Christ Church United Methodist, 655 North Craycroft Road. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Memorial gifts may be given to the Jane Hughes Memorial Fund, Water for Wildlife Foundation, PO Box 13, Lander, WY, 82520. LOVETTE, Barbara Elaine 'Bobbie', 59, of Tucson, formerly of Lansing, MI, died at 2:00 a.m., June 13, 1997 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Barbara was born March 30, 1938 in Lansing, MI, she was the daughter of Leo E. and Marian L. Green. She was a Unit Coordinator and an LPN at Santa Rosa Care Center of Tucson. Barbara is survived by her mother, Marian L. Green of Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Kelly Lynn Dohring of Sierra Vista, AZ; sons, Kenneth W. Lovette, Michael Hill of Tucson, AZ; sister, Martha J. Whitman of Las Vegas, NV; brother, William Green of Las Vegas, NV and seven grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her beloved brother, James A. Closky. Bobbie as she liked to be called by all her dearing friends at Santa Rosa Care Center. Bobbie loved her work as a nurse, helping others. She also loved all her friends at Santa Rosa with a special mention of her best friends, Lucy and Jan and all the people at Santa Rosa. She will be missed by all. A Memorial Service will be Wednesday, June 18, 1997 at Santa Rosa Care Center, 1650 N. Santa Rosa at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Killian officiating. Arrangements handled by WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway, 881-0338.

LYNCH, George V., 70, died June 11, 1997. Originally a native of Brooklyn, New York, he retired as an electrician. Survived by daughters, Christine (Robert) Robbins and Kathleen Lynch, all of Tucson; grandchildren, Keith and Kerri Robbins and Jordan Lynch. In lieu of flowers, his daughters request remembrances in his name to Hospice Family Care, 3838 N. Campbell, Tucson, AZ 85719. Memorial Service will be conducted 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 18 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, with Fr. Charles Cloud officiating.

MATHESON, Carney D., 95, died June 15, 1997. Survived by his sons, Bob (Julie) Matheson and Bill Matheson; grandchildren, Robert C. and Barbara Matheson. Mr.Matheson has been a resident of Tucson since 1982, moving here from Detroit, MI where he was a Corporate Attorney for many years. Private family Services were held. PERINO, Lura L., 73, of Tucson, died June 15, 1997. A 49 year resident of Tucson. Mother of Camille Perino-Jones of McGill, NV, David L. Perino of Casacabell, AZ, Thomas J. Perino of Ely, NV, Mary Consul of Las Vegas, NV and Daniel Perino of Tucson; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass Wednesday, June 18, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Burial to follow in Holy Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Tucson Community Food Bank. Visitation Tuesday, June 17 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3435 N. 1st Ave., (888-1111).

RUDOLPH, Joseph A., age 79, a 20 year resident of Tucson, passed away June 14, 1997. Born December 28, 1917 in Middleboro, Massachusetts. Mr. Rudolph had a military career spanning 35 years. He was a Charter Member of John D. Martin V.F.W. Post #9260 in Weymouth, Massachusetts. A lifetime Member of the V.F.W., Navy Seabee Veterans of America Inc. and Fleet Reserve Association. He also worked at the Boston Naval Shipyard for 28 years. Survived by his wife, Odet; son, Richard A. Rudolph of Kissimmee, Florida; stepson, Richard A. Barriault, Jr. of Tucson; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held today from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave., with Funeral Service at 7:00 p.m., Rev. Lian Leahy of St. John Catholic Church officiating. Military honors will follow by V.F.W. Post 549.

SALENY, Mary, age 95, passed away June 14, 1997 in Tucson. Born June 5, 1902 in Myto, Czechoslovakia. Survived by two children; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, 1997 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave.

Genevieve Rea Van Heeswyk, September 22, 1949 – June 15, 1997, A loving wife and mother, who gave selflessly to help others overcome obstacles she herself faced in her life. Choosing to be an occupational therapist was her way of returning the care and compassion she received as a child stricken with polio. If we, family and friends, can show half the courage and strength she did we will all survive this tremendous loss and be forever touched by a truly wonderful person. 'Jeannie will be in our thoughts daily and our hearts forever'. Jeannie is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Jerry; her daughters, Mary, Victoria and Kristen; four sisters, Martha, Sheila, Rhonda and Karen; two brothers, Joseph and Michael and stepmother, Betty Alejandro. Friends may call at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Wednesday, June 18 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in California. WASKO, Gertrude J., 84, of Tucson, passed away June 15, 1997. Born in Duncan, NE on October 26, 1912. Preceded in death by parents, Frank and Josephine and brothers, Frank Jr., Joe, Chester and Matthew Wasko. Survived by sister, Susie Fouts of Iowa; brothers, Andrew Wasko of Iowa, Charlie Wasko of Iowa, Dennis and Bob Wasko of Tucson and Bernard Wasko of New Mexico. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 1997 from 9:00 to 9: 45 at Villa Maria Geriatric Center, 4310 E. Grant Rd., with Rosary recited at 9: 45 a.m. Mass will be offered on Wednesday, June 18, 1997, 10: 15 a.m. at Villa Maria. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Howard Zeskind, born August 13, 1945 in Baltimore, MD died suddenly of a heart attack, June, 15, 1997. Howard was a historian, teacher, college counselor and assistant headmaster at St. Gregory College Preparatory School, where he worked for more that 16 years. Avid golfer, tennis player and sportsman, he attended Brown University where he was All Ivy League in La Crosse. His graduate Degree was earned at the University of Sussex College in England. Howard’s encouragement and willingness to allow his students to choose their own paths, as well as his strong guidance and wisdom, helped shape their futures. He will be dearly missed by the many whose lives he touched. Howard was a man with the best of heart. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Glazar; sons, Peter and Teddy; mother, Helen Zeskind and brother, Robert Zeskind of Baltimore, MD. Friends may call at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E.
