Theresa Judith Ortiz Felix 'Jona' 'Tia Annie'
Born January 25, 1948, Theresa went to meet her Creator on Monday, June 9, 1997 at 1:00 a.m. Preceded in death by her father, Rev. Ralph F. Ortiz, Sr. Survived by her loving husband, Pastor Manuel P. Felix, Sr.; her two children, Manuel 'Dittos' Felix, Jr. and Athinia 'Chini' Felix; her mother, Catalina Ortiz; and her paternal grandmother, Micaela Ortiz.
She is also survived by her sisters, Druscilla Troncoza, Orpha Zaragoza, Bithinia Navallez, Johanna Duran, Priscilla Martinez, Sarah Ortiz and Cattie Ortiz; and her two brothers, Ralph Ortiz, Jr. and Reuben Ortiz. Her nieces and nephews, David Jr., Jonathan and Nina Troncoza, Phillip A. Zaragoza, Yvette, Ciria and Jeannette Marie Ortiz, Jennifer Ashley Ortiz, Rudy Jr. and Melody Joy Martinez. And by many other loving uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Her Going Away Celebration will be held at Bacon Memorial Church of God in Christ at 1218 N. Riverview Blvd., on Friday, June 13 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 14 at 9:00 a.m.

HALSTEAD, Earl Wayne, Jr., 49 years, native Tucsonian, born November 3, 1948. Found deceased in his residence on May 31, 1997, in Artesia, CA. Earl grew up in Tucson and attended Pueblo High School between 1964 and 1967. Worked numerous jobs from mining to construction. Last working rerouting the railways in Southern California. Enjoyed a life of many outdoor adventures. Most remembered for his compassion and fairness to others. A true friend. Preceded by father, Earl Wayne Halstead, Sr, born 1919 in Michigan and survived by mother, Lillian Johnson, born in New Jersey in 1919. Also stepmother, Betty Halstead, born in Illinois. Also survived by three children, Tonya Halstead, Brandi Halstead and Gary Halstead, all who reside in Lakewood, CA. Also nine grandchildren and three sisters, Madeline Truman Halstead, Tucson, Irene Rankhorn, Tucson, Lillian Lincoln Halstead from Georgia. Also two brothers, Ronald Halstead, Tucson and Peter Halstead, Virginia Beach and many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. Graveside Service will be held at South Lawn Cemetery, 5401 S. Park Ave., on Friday, June 13, 1997, Section 7 at 5:00 p.m.
HAWKINS, Gertrude Roma, 98, passed away following a brief illness on June 11, 1997. She was born on October 20, 1898, the youngest of 10 children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, George Rush Hawkins. She is survived by her two sons, Ivan R. Hawkins and David G. Hawkins; her grandchildren, Anne Hawkins Welsh, James H. Hawkins, Linda Sue Kelly and Kathy Crowe and 12 great-grandchildren. Gertrude will be remembered as a devoted mother who was always available to give loving care to the members of her family and others as well. She never refused to lend a helping hand even though it might be an inconvenience for her. She was active in the Republican Party, serving for over 50 years as a Precinct Committeewoman and holding several offices in the Party on a voluntary basis. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 14 at BRING’S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 S. Scott, with Dr. Lee Scott officiating. Interment will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.

Gloria Earlene Logan Marx, 74. On April 4, 1923 the Lord began a good work in his child and servant, Gloria Earlene Marx, and was faithful to complete it on June 9, 1997. Gloria follows her father, Claude Earl Stripling; mother, Verna El Frieda Stripling; sister, Winifred and brother, James into eternal glory. She leaves behind her children, Charles Logan (Alicia) of Tucson, Richard Logan (Linda) of Ft. Worth, TX, James Logan (Pat) of Tijeras, NM, Scherrell Love of Rio Rancho, NM and Diane Purcell (Michael) of Albuquerque, NM; her brothers, William (Yolanda) of Rio Rancho, NM, Wallace (Iris) of Kent, WA, Warren (Neet) of La Habra, CA and Joseph (Jolynne) of Phoenix, AZ; many nieces and nephews also survive. Gloria was blessed with nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Gloria will be missed in the singles ministry and choir at Casa Adobes Baptist Church. Gloria also made many friends during her 18 years at the front desk of the University of Arizona Law Library. Those of us who were fortunate enough to have known Gloria will miss her deeply, but are joyous in the knowledge that she has claimed her richly deserved reward and will be eternally with Jesus Christ, who she has so diligently served. SHULL, Harry, 93, passed away on June 9, 1997 with Bess, his wife of 71 years, at his side. He retired to Tucson in 1965 and began his second career working in real estate management with his son, Jerry and daughter-in-law, Ann until he was 90. His other son, Arthur and daughter-in-law, Charlotte live in Ithaca, NY; his five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. GENTRY, Emmitt, 70, of Tucson, AZ, passed away peacefully on June 6, 1997. He is lovingly survived in life by his wife, Eileen of Tucson; sister, Lorene Graves of Berea, KY; brothers, Burt (Marie) Gentry of Mt.Vernon, KY and Gilbert (Marie) Gentry of Boiling Springs, NC. Emmitt’s loving relatives include his stepchildren, Carmela (Gerald) Plunkett of Tucson, Timothy (Jing) Clennon of Geneva, Switzerland, Cary Clennon of Washington, D.C. and Christopher Clennon of Tucson; niece, Phyllis (Steven) Fielder of Tucson; nephews, James (Betty) McClure of Paint Lick, KY and Charles (Gloria) Hensley of Tucson; great-niece, Renee (Michael) Griffith of Tucson; great-nephew, Darren (Jeanie) Hensley of Tucson; and grandchildren, Shawn Plunkett and Nicole Plunkett, both of Tucson. Emmitt is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and other loved ones in Kentucky and elsewhere. Emmitt was born in Rockcastle County, Kentucky and moved to Tucson in 1954. He served for over 30 years in a variety of positions at the Hughes Aircraft Company, where he made many friends before retiring in 1985. Emmitt was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army. His ready smile and gentle manner will be sorely missed by all who shared the privilege of knowing him. A memorial service of remembrance will be held for Emmitt on Wednesday, June 11, 1:00 p.m. at St. Cyril’s Church, Pima St. and Swan Rd., in Tucson. GROSETH, Gary William, 60, passed away at home on June 8, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Carol; mother, Gretchen; sons, Kit William (Donna), Robert Gordon (Tracy) and Jeffrey Kent and his new, beloved grandson, Grant William.
