DINWIDDIE, Nancy Lou, 60, of Tucson, passed away suddenly on June 1, 1997. Survived by beloved husband, Tom; and five children, Tom (Barb), Kathy Armbruster (Rob), Mike (Myla), Lisa Panzero (Richard), all of Tucson, and Clay of Bullhead City. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Jack McGrael of Dallas. A graduate of Tucson High School in 1954, Nancy was always dedicated to her family. In recent years she also enjoyed painting and tennis. She will be missed greatly by all her family and friends. The family will have a private Memorial Service. An open-house Celebration-of-Life will be held for all her friends and family at the Arizona Inn, Thursday June 5, 1997 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Foundation at 1760 E. River Road, Suite 115, Tucson, AZ 85718. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.

GORDON, Mae Lester, 80, wife of Dr.Morris J. Gordon, died Saturday May 31 in Tucson, AZ, after an extended illness. She was a resident of Seville, OH and Green Valley, AZ. Funeral services will be held at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St, Wooster, OH, Wednesday June 4, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the residence, 8307 Wooster Pike, Seville, OH on Wednesday following the service and Thursday. Contributions suggested to the charity of one’s choice. Mrs. Gordon was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on July 24, 1916, the daughter of the late Nathan and Goldie (Pollack) Lester. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Morris; daughters, Gail Gordon Sommers of Akron, Marsha (Donald) Frantisak of Danville, Genie Gordon of Akron, and Naome (Dwaine) Carter of Lodi; eight grandsons; one great-grandson; two brothers, William and Thomas Lester of FL; sister Phyllis Sloane of Cleveland.Preceded in death by a sister Rose White of Cleveland, OH.

HARSHFIELD, Cecelia, 82, of Green Valley for 22 years, formerly of Birmingham, MI, died June 2, 1997. Survived by son, Roger Eckerman (Patricia) of MI; grandson, Jeremy; niece, Loretta Elsholz of Tucson, AZ; three great-nieces and one great-nephew. She was a library and White Elephant volunteer. Remembrances may be made to Square and Compass. Arrangements were handled by Green Valley Mortuary and Memorial Gardens.

HARTZEL, Joseph T., 75, retired real estate broker, died May 31, 1997 at the Veterans Administration Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. Survivors include his wife, Hillery; son, Thomas J. Hartzel; daughter, Julie Williams; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. Hartzel served in the Marine Corp during WWII and was a volunteer at the VA Hospital for many years. In accordance with his wishes there will be no services.

HUGHES, Jane W., 75, died on Wednesday, May 28, 1997. She had been a resident of Tucson since 1958, formerly of OH, and was a 1943 graduate of The Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Lt. Col. Frank M. Wyman, Jr., USAF; and second husband, Lawrence E. Hughes. She will be remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Gail Wyman Remaly and Dick Remaly of Morristown, NJ; grandson, Scott Remaly of Morristown; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Homer Smith; niece, Alison Husted, all of Tucson. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 26 at 5:00 p.m., in the chapel of Christ Church United Methodist, 655 North Craycroft Road. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Memorial gifts may be given to the Jane Hughes Memorial Fund, Water for Wildlife Foundation, PO Box 13, Lander, WY, 82520. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd.

KOBES, Brigadier General Frank J., Jr., born May 27, 1914 in Crete, NE, died June 1, 1997, at age 83.
Frank was raised fishing for bullheads in the Blue River in Crete, NE, attended Doane College in his hometown for two years and obtained an engineering degree from the United states Military Academy, graduating in 1939. He received his M.A. in physical education from New York University. Frank married his high school sweetheart, a former Miss Wilber, Lydia Bessie Fritz, on August 16, 1941.
Prior to WWII he coached football at West Point with the legendary Earl 'Red' Blake and Vince Lombardi.
He landed in Morocco in the African Campaign with the 3rd Infantry Division.
He was medically evacuated from Sicily and discharged with disability.
He served as Commandant of Cadets at Valley Forge Military Academy before being called back to active duty to be the Professor of Physical Education at the United States Military Academy in 1950.
He retired as a Brigadier General in 1974, with the Distinguished Service Medal, to Beaufort, SC, and moved to Tucson, AZ in 1989.
He was an active member of the community, serving in the Kiwanis Club, Christ the King Church Choir and the Board of Directors of Copper Creek Elementary School, as well as numerous committees at Sun City Vistoso.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lydia Kobes; sister, Mary Jo Winter of New Hampshire; three children, Jane Richter of Tucson, Frank Kobes IV of Western Springs, IL and Kenneth Kobes of Sumner, WA and nine grandchildren.
His two sons and oldest grandchild, Capt. Jean Kobes (Henderson), are also graduates of the U.S.M.A.
Services will be on Tuesday, June 3, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Episcopal Church.
Donations may be made to the Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.

LAMBERT, Clinton H., 100, of Tucson, died June 2, 1997. Survived by his wife, Domitila A. Lambert; sisters-in-law, Rose Lambert of Phoenix, Esther de la Rosa and Alicia de la Rosa, both of Cananea, Sonora Mexico; close friend, Maria Gama of Tucson; many nieces and nephews. No services are planned. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY.

LEWIS, M.D. Raymond O., Col., US Army, Ret., 83, died June 1, 1997. Husband of Vera Lewis of Tucson; father of Robert K. Lewis of Gilman, IL, Patricia Chadwick of Boulder, CO, Nadine Hyde of Denver, CO and Kerry Sue Lewis-Bradfield of Tucson; eight grandchildren also survive.
He was a flight surgeon in WWII.
A member of Sabbar Shrine Temple, Tucson and Helena Lodge #3 F & A.M. Helena, MT, a Fellow American Academy of Otolaryngology and a member of the American Medical Association. Memorial Service, 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 4, 1997 at Sabbar Shrine Temple, 450 S. Tucson Blvd.
The family suggests donations to Sabbar Shrine Temple Band or Sabbar Temple Transportation Fund for Crippled Children.

MORENO, Herminia, 81, of Tucson, AZ, died May 31, 1997. Survived by children, Alejandro Bejarano (Theresa), Helena Cota (Trini), Irene Bejarano (Ruperto), Enrique Moreno (Rosalba), Romelia Patino (Gilbert), Armando Moreno (Mary), Eva Moreno, Adriana Delahanty (Roy), Ofrecia Perez, Jose Moreno; brothers, Ramon and Adam Quiroga and sister, Raquel Heredia; 29 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 4, 1997 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m, with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave.
Services will be held Thursday, June 5, 1997 at St. John’s Catholic Church, 602 W. Ajo Way at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements made by SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY.

PETERS, Father John M., 76, died May 31, 1997. Born in Fairbank, IA.
Survived by sisters, Catherine Peters, Mary Weber and Ellen Reisning.
He retired from Saint Paul’s Parish in Traer, IA when he moved to Tucson in 1989; attended Loras College and Saint Mary’s Seminary in Cincinnati, OH; ordained a priest in December 1944.
Rosary/Chalice Service, 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 3, 1997 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 215 S. Craycroft. Mass will be offered at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Further services and interment in Iowa are pending.
Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

PULLEN, Donna Jean, 67, of Tucson, passed away May 30, 1997.
She is survived by her husband, Ray D. Pullen; sister, Liona Ebert of Tucson and will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews and many friends and relatives.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date in Spencer, IA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Corondelet Hospice Services, Stained Glass Endowment, 1802 W. St. Mary’s Rd., Tucson, AZ 84745.

SHEETS, James Benjamin, Born February 22, 1945 in St. Louis, MO, rejoined our Lord on Thursday, May 29, 1997.
Preceded in death by father, Clark Sheets; mother, Mary McBaine; sister, Glory Stevens. Survived by sons, Brian Sheets, Timothy Sheets; sisters, Mary Rhodes, and Cindy Bailey.
Jim grew up in Columbia, MO and joined the Army at 17. Serving from 62-70 in Viet Nam, sent there once he volunteered a second time.
He belonged to the 137th Engineering Group, building roads, receiving the Viet Nam Service Medal for time served.
After discharge, Jim came to Tucson to be near his family.
He enjoyed fishing and family get togethers.
Recently Jim had been extremely ill with emphysema and Agent Orange.
Constantly on oxygen he was confined to a wheelchair.
He unexpectedly succumbed at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Jim’s ashes will be interred at the National Cemetery in Cave Creek, Arizona.
He was loved dearly by his family who will miss him.
'Absent from the body, Present with the Lord'.

SHEPARD, Charles 'Chuck', entered into rest in the comfort of his home, June 2, 1997.
He was born in Tucson, AZ, September 6, 1954.
Chuck attended Our Mother of Sorrows Elementary School and the Regina Cleri Seminary in Tucson.
He was awarded degrees in Psychology and Theology at St. Thomas Seminary in Denver, CO.
Chuck was ordained a Catholic priest in 1979 and served the Diocese of Tucson until 1985.
From 1985 through 1994 he worked as a crisis counselor and psychotherapist in the Tucson area.
He married Wendy Eyrich of Tucson in 1994.
In Chuck’s last years, he helped to found and he served as Executive Director of the W.I.N.G.S.
Foundation. The foundation is dedicated to enabling terminally ill adults and their families to realize the fulfillment of a personal dream or desire.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Wendy; parents, John and Jane Shepard of Tucson; brothers, John (Patricia) of Dallas, TX., Mark (Donna) of Amarillo, TX; sister, Ann (Rick) Castro of Wetumpka, AL.
He is also survived by loving members of the Eyrich family and his many friends.
Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, Tuesday, June 3, 1997 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m.
Mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1800 N. Camino Dio Decimo, Wednesday, June 4, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, he and Wendy request donations be made to W.I.N.G.S. Foundation, 7054 E. Corto Caravaca, Tucson, AZ 85715.

STEENBAKKER, Christine Louise, 73, of Tucson, AZ, died June 1, 1997. Survived by sons, Emmanuel M. Steenbakker of Tucson, AZ, Leonard W. Steenbakker of Anoka, MN; daughter, Yvonne C.A. Davis of Cloquet, MN; four brothers; one sister; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In 1974 she retired from St. Mary’s Hospital after living in Duluth from 1957 to 1974. Service, Wednesday, June 4, 11:30 a.m., EVERGREEN MORTUARY.
Friends may call 10:30 a.m. till time of service.
