HILL, Rick, 54, Donald Frederick Hill, Jr. was born January 19, 1943 to Dr. Donald and Ruth Hill, and died August 31, 1997. He is survived by his wife Elaine and son Daniel; sisters Susanne Imhaus and Nina Brown, both of California; nieces and nephews; parents-in-law William and Elsie Lewis; and many caring friends.
Rick was born and raised at Hill Farm in Tucson. He graduated Northern Arizona University and completed medical studies at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. He started Greer Ski Tours in Greer, AZ in 1977 and for nine years shared his love of skiing by operating a cross country ski touring center. He was an avid hiker, an expert skier, a naturalist and an equestrian. He was president of the Greer Chamber of Commerce and a volunteer of the Fire Department. He returned to Tucson, and upon developing severe emphysema he was the first Arizonan to undergo double lung transplant in 1990 at Washington University Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. The transplant gave him seven years to know his son, and although disease crippled his body, his strength of spirit never flagged.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, September 5 at 9:00 a.m. at San Pedro Chapel, 5230 E. Fort Lowell Road. MCDONALD, Vance, age 78, of Tucson, passed away September 3, 1997. His wife, Geannella, preceded him in death in 1991. He is survived by one son, John (Brenda) McDonald; and four grandchildren. Mr. McDonald was an active member of the 32nd Degree Masons, and also the 5 Points Lodge in El Paso, TX. He was a member of the Scottish Rite in Tucson, and the Elks Lodge #2532. He retired in 1967 from a long career with the Air Force. In 1981 he retired from the University of Arizona. Memorial Services will be at the Sabbar Shrine Temple on Saturday, September 6, 1997, at 10:00 a.m. with Larry Parton officiating. Gregory Allen Johnson, 52, died September 2, 1997. Gregory went to be with his Lord on September 2, 1997 as a result of cancer. ASHLEY, Albert K., 90, retired from the U.S. Navy, passed away August 29, 1997. He and his wife, Emma, have lived in the Tucson area for many years as winter visitors, living both in Tucson and Idaho. And in later years Tucson became their permanent home.Before his illness, both Emma and Al were active in the Senior Citizens group of Southwest Tucson. Al, is also survived by his daughter, Bernadean (Randy) Stockton, of ID; and his grandson, Wyatt Stockton, also of ID; and two step-daughters, Vera Hagin, of GA and Shirley Bynum of Tucson. DAVISON, Yolanda Serrano, born May 23, 1926, in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, went to our Lord on August 31, 1997. She is survived by her devoted husband of over 43 years, George B. Davison; daughters, Yolanda D. Dyche (son-in-law, David, grandsons, Dane and Robert Scott) and Julie Kogan (son-in-law, Wally, grandchildren, Alexander and Kayla); sisters, Gloria S. Blake, Elvia S. Cavazos and Irene Serrano; and brother, Jorge Serrano; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Miguel and Julia Serrano; sisters, Julietta S. Escoboza and Denia S. Loustaunau; and brothers, Miguel Serrano, Ruben Serrano and Armando Serrano. As a young woman, she was a member of Club C.I.R. for Catholics in Hermosilla, Mexico, and worked for Telefonos de Mexico for 10 years. After marrying George, moving to Tucson, and raising her two lovely daughters, she was a Gate Program Spanish specialist with the Tucson Unified School District, serving at numerous schools around the city for over 15 years. She also volunteered at TMC as a Spanish translator. Throughout her over 40 years in Tucson, Yolanda served the Lord as a vibrant member of St. Cyril’s Parish. Her warm smile, gentle compassion, and love of life, touched all who knew her. She is deeply missed by her family and friends.
