ADLER, Eleanor R., loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died August 25, 1997 after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jack N.; two daughters, Sylvia Ann Jarvis and Sonya Lynne Adler-Abbott; three grandsons, Robert L. Jarvis, Jack L. Jarvis and David A. Abbott; three great-grandchildren, Jeffrey R. Jarvis, Michael R. Jarvis and Jessica Ann Jarvis also survive. Mrs. Adler worked at the U of A bookstore for 20 years in the Buy Back Department. While enjoying good health she and Jack clowned at the VA Hospital, Arizona School for the Deaf and the Blind and B.P.O.E. She also has many friends and family residing in Iowa. BERSBACH, Alfred John, passed on peacefully at his home in Moorpark on August 17, 1997 with his wife of 53 years, Ruth Alfretta Loucks Bersbach and two of his sons by his side. He was 78. Al was the father of four sons, Alfred, Robert, Peter and Richard; and he had six grandchildren, Charles, Brian, Patrick, Tom, Chris and Susie. Al was born in Minneapolis on February 3, 1919. He graduated from Hamilton High School in Los Angeles in 1937 and from the California Institute of Technology in 1941. He went to work as an engineer at General Electric where he designed manufacturing systems which increased production and lowered energy use during WWII. From 1951 until his retirement in 1981 he was an electrical engineer, then a project manager for Hughes Aircraft Company in Culver City, Tucson (1953-1966) and Canoga Park. He was involved in the design and testing of the Falcon, Phoenix and TOW missiles and laser-guided weapons. Al was always active in his community. He helped organize and construct one of the first community pools in the nation in Tucson, Arizona’s Highland Vista neighborhood and he was one of the first members of the congregation of Tucson, Arizona’s St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church on whose vestry he served for many years.After his retirement in 1981 he was an active member and vestryman of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Fillmore California, organizing a food pantry for the needy as well as ”Life Line” systems for the elderly through Simi Valley Adventist Hospital in California. For 24 years he and Ruth lovingly tended their Moorpark, California avocado orchard, but they gave nearly all its fruit to Food Share. Al had a great and precise intelligence that was exceeded only by his patience and kindliness. He will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know him. May God bless him.

SANBORN, Everett Alfred, USAF Ret., went to be his his lord on August 25, 1997 after a long illness. He was born February 6, 1922, Gloversville, New York. He had lived in Tucson since 1963. Margaret S. Smith, 74, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 24. 1997. She was born in Tucson, AZ on June 8, 1923 and was preceded in death by husband Fred Y. Smith. She leaves behind her loving family: daughters, Terisa (Martin) Lopez and Mary Ann (Ernest) Sanchez of Tucson; grandchildren, Debbie (Robert) Coulter of Pittsburg, PA, Louis (Liz) Vidal of Tucson, Mary H. She touched the lives of many other children as a day care provider for 28 years since March 15, 1969, and many friends. THIEL, Jack A., 76, passed away on August 23, 1997 in Poway, California. He was a former resident of Tucson and had been living in San Diego for the past three years. He retired from the Bureau Of Land Management after 25 years. He was an army veteran of WWII. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Tucson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Peggy in 1963. Surviving are his loving children, Michael Thiel of San Diego, Judi Thiel-Silver of Oakland, CA and Justin Fellenz of Virginia and four grandchildren. HODGMAN, Kenneth R., 71, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Minneapolis, MN, Atchison, KS and Springfield, IL died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 1997 from complication of a bleeding ulcer and lung diseases. He is survived by his son, Daniel; grandson, Andrew; granddaughter, Brenda Cooley; great-granddaughter, Marilyn Cooley; ex-wives, Kimberly Ross and Marceline Hodgman; and several nieces and nephews. He was retired from the Pillsbury Company where he worked as head flour miller for 42 1/2 years. He was a long time member of the Elks and Rolling Hills Golf Course. There will be no services. SWEENEY, Dossy, 70, of Tucson, AZ, went to be with the Lord on August 21, 1997. He and his wife, Elizabeth resided in Tucson for 19 years. Dossy was born in Tyler County, Alvy, W. VA. on March 5, 1927. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; son, Carl of FL; daughter Deborah of KY; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Betty Habluetzel, Shirley Sweeney, Shelba Marshall all of Las Vegas, NV and Dorma Baker of Pensboro, W. VA. He was a great soul winner for the Lord and served Him faithfully at the Tucson Baptist Temple, as a Sunday School Teacher, and as a security guard. He was known as Barney to his friends. He earned his Doctorate of Ministry Degree at Patriot University in Colorado Springs, CO, in June, 1996. Funeral Services 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 26, at the BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Born in Marion, Indiana October 23, 1950. He attended Oak Hill and Marion High Schools. Served in the regular US Air Force and moved to Tucson, AZ in 1987 and has been at Cummins Southwest for about nine years. He was into Bible study for the last 20 years and enjoyed world history studies mostly on WWII. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Larry Beltz of Tucson and Mrs. James Glass in Marion, IN and Mrs. William Nelson, also of Marion, IN. Services for Mr. Wagner will be held at the Grant Memorial Chapel in Marion, IN on August 26, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. where his ashes will be buried beside his mother and father. His family and friends at Cummins Southwest will certainly miss him and remember him always and forever.
