KINMAN, Nona Faye, 90, died suddenly at home August 19, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Dean Kinman and her parents, Harry D. and Edna McCall. She is survived by many caring friends. Born in Kansas, Nona attended Teachers College in Hays and later worked for many years in California in hotel catering. After moving to Tucson nearly 20 years ago, she touched many lives through her work at the Lower Court Grill, the Jewell Thief and the Armory Park Senior Citizens Center. An advocate for an active, productive life, Nona served as a volunteer for several years at the Tucson Children’s Museum, loving the energy and caring of the creative staff and the children with whom she interacted. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Nona will be remembered for her energetic, optimistic attitude toward life. MCLENDON, Stuart (Mac), an Arizona native son, born in Bisbee December 12, 1924, died at his Tucson home on August 19, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; and daughter, Suzanne Rehbock of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his son, Scott. Stu was a World War II Navy Veteran and long time Tucson Optician, who will be remembered for his dedication to quality service to his customers. Vaughn E. Stock, born February 8, 1936, died August 21, 1997. Dr. Oscar J. Swenson, 93, of Tucson, passed away August 15, 1997. He is survived by wife, Pauline M. Swenson; three stepchildren; two step-grandchildren; one son, John E.Swenson of Petersburg, VA; grandchildren, Tauni Swenson of Boston and Tyler Swenson of CA. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews. He was born in Roscoe, MN and grew up on a farm in Columbus, ND where his love of machinery started. He attended the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1931. He continued on and obtained his Ph.D. with distinction in Chemical and Mechanical Engineering in 1935. Throughout his career he worked as an Industrial Engineer with DuPont, was a professor of Chemical Engineering at Cornell University, was a consultant for Johnson Wax and was the technical director at Olin Industries. While at Johnson Wax he developed a process for extracting wax from sugar cane waste and spent some time in Cuba building two plants for this purpose. His career also took him to Louisiana to build a refinery, Europe and many different states. He left Olin in 1960 to work on the development of one of his inventions, a manually operated torque – magnifying impact wrench for which he obtained a patent under the trademark ”Swench”. The Swench was intended for use in areas where electricity for power tools was not available. Since then it has been and still used extensively by the military. Throughout his career he worked and obtained patents for 23 different inventions. His love of machinery continued throughout his life. He maintained a workshop at his home and spent many enjoyable hours working on numerous projects. No services were held at his request. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.
WALLACE, Robert J., born May 24, 1931, passed away August 21, 1997. Born in Butte, Montana. Resident of Tucson since 1965. Known to friends as ”Bob”. He was loved by family and friends. Miner for 30 years. Although retired for 17 years, to those who knew him he never retired from anything, leading a very active life. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Marie Wallace; and his five children, Michael J. Wallace, Linda M. Hamilton, Debbie A. Argenziano, Mark W. Wallace and Kathy M.
